AGSL History:

Mary Dryden and her friend Joan Hoffman founded the Amherst Girls Softball League in 1973.  They started the league when Mary’s daughter Stephanie told her mom she wanted to play baseball.  AGSL played its first season at the Academy St. school where Principal Tom Ahern cleared time for the girls to use the school’s fields and allowed the league to use the schools chalk liners.  Five town of Amherst board members contributed money to purchase equipment. The Joe McCarthy little league donated some old bases to the girls.

Our first season opened with 4 teams: the Red Hots, the Rookies, the Raiders and the Cartwheels (a name that soon changed to the Stingers).

The league has come a long way over the years and is now the premier softball league for girls in New York.
