Division Descriptions

This is a brief description of each division within the OHYSA program. Play is governed by Official Baseball (MLB) for baseball or Amateur Softball Association (ASA) rules for softball. Exceptions to the official rules are covered under PONY Baseball & Softball Inc. rules and regulations, then further exceptions covered under the Oak Hill Youth Sports Association Bluebook, please refer to those publications for more specific information

WeeBall

Players ages 3 & 4. Using a "safety" ball and a T-ball batting tee, WeeBall focuses on introduction to team sports.  WeeBall is parent-led and all players must have at least 1 parent with them on the field at all times. The end goal is to keep a group of toddlers focused on a series of finite actions that, when pulled together, are a ball game. 6 players are used on the field and all players bat. Games run approximately 30 minutes long. Playing season last 6 weeks, with one game/practice a week.

8U

Players ages 7 & 8. Basic fundamentals of baseball and softball utilizing an adult coach to pitch to players. 10 players on the field during regular season and end of season tournament play. All players bat. No leading off or stealing of bases allowed. There is a mandatory two inning defensive play rule and each player must play an infield position at least one inning of each game. Maximum of 5 coaches for baseball and 4 coaches for softball allowed on the field at any time.

12U

Takes Players 11 & 12 years old into the full game with no restrictions on base stealing. Strict pitching restriction based on innings, pitch counts, or combinations thereof, are used and enforced. 9 players are used on the field. There is a mandatory two inning defensive play rule. In addition - for softball - each team member must play an infield position at least one inning of each game. All players are in the batting lineup. Each team will be allowed a maximum of 3 coaches on the field.

 6U 

Players ages 5 & 6. Using a T-ball batting tee, 6U focuses on instruction of beginning players. 10 players are fielded defensively and all players bat. No leading off or stealing of bases is allowed. Mandatory two inning defensive play rule. In addition, each team member must play an infield position at least one inning of each game. Maximum of 5 coaches in baseball and 4 coaches in softball are allowed on the field at any time.

9U/10U

Players 9 & 10 years of age. Introduction into the complete game, with no restrictions on base stealing in the Spring and "closed" bases in the fall, and players pitching. Strict pitching restriction based on innings, pitch counts, or combinations thereof, are used and enforced. 9 players are used on the field. There is a mandatory two inning defensive play rule. In addition, each team member must play an infield position at least one inning of each game. All players are in the batting lineup. Each team will be allowed a maximum of 4 coaches on the field.

14U

Takes Players 13 & 14 years old into the full game with no restrictions on base stealing. Strict pitching restriction based on innings, pitch counts, or combinations thereof, are used and enforced. 9 players are used on the field. There is a mandatory two inning defensive play rule. In addition - for softball - each team member must play an infield position at least one inning of each game. All players are in the batting lineup. Each team will be allowed a maximum of 3 coaches on the field.

 18U

Teams of 16U or 18U play summer and tournament ball using full high school rules. Teams may be approved fully formed, or if enough players are interested teams may be formed by OHYSA. Play does not being until May. Teams at this level of play are only offered for the summer and fall seasons.

COVID-19 ALERT

If you have experienced any of the following within 2 to 14 days of your assigned game, you CANNOT call the game. Email COVID@ohysaboard.org with your name and game division/time as soon as you are able to let us know.

  • Fever 100.4F or higher
  • Sore throat
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Chills
  • Muscle pain
  • New loss of taste or smell

OHYSA Umpire Basics

UMPIRE ID (UID)

Your UID changes EVERY season. For youth umpires playing in the current season, this ID is not the same as either the Player/Parent ID or the Registration ID.

BACKGROUND CHECKS

If you are 18 or older, or will be turning 18 during the season SUBMIT A BACKGROUND CHECK.  

WAIVER

Complete a Release & Waiver of Liability. 

  • Current youth OHYSA players can skip this.
  • Minors not currently registered at OHYSA must have their parent/guardian complete waiver.
  • Adult umpires must complete waiver.

IRS

Complete and return a W9.

  • 6U softball & baseball - $30
  • 8U softball & baseball - $35
  • 10U baseball - $40
  • 10U, 12U & 14U softball and 12U baseball - $45
  • 14U baseball - $50
