This Char Wheeler team is getting conditioned to this 7am crack of dawn game. It is difficult to get all cylinders roaring when your morning ritual is cut short, but we persevere. The love of senior softball, is the only things that many of us would set our alarms for this early, especially in retirement. They say a tie game is better than a loss so we will take it and rejoice. Trevor, your pitcher struck out two of Char Wheelers batters and you should bring them donuts (plus us). This game was fought for seven innings but decided in the last at bats for Char Wheeler All Stars. The end of 5th inning we’re behind 7-8, end of 6th behind 7-12. But that seventh inning was our shining glory. We put up 5 runs while we held them with a great defense to zero additional, so 12-12 final. Denise was phenomenal at pitching while Steve Foster used those long legs for stretches for throws from Ron Silberman (both subs). Thanks also to Dave Bagwell for filling out our team. Next Monday finds us on the field at the early bird game again, so buy those tickets and be in the stands , because we’re on a roll. Bring coffee please.

Fast Signs - 9 Canyon State HVAC - 11

"Fast Signs closed strong but came up a little short in the bottom of the 7th and lost to Canyon State HVAC 11-9. CS put up crooked numbers of 4 and 5 in the first two innings and we just never recovered despite holding them scoreless in 4 of the last 5 innings. We were led offensively by SS Al Caillouette 4/4, 2 runs, Les Zirbel also 4/4 with 3 RBI and Super-Sub 3rd baseman John ""JB"" Blevins 3/3 with a walk, double and 3 RBI while scoring 2 runs. LC Chip Robertson, RF Kirk Andes, 2nd baseman Dan Newman and Catcher Paul Jinneman all had two hits. RC Ken Silva had a hit and 2 RBI and LF Jeff Watson added a hit to round out our hit parade. Defensively, Paul Jinneman stole the show with a pop up catch that was in the glove but had to be secured with the bare hand. Super SS Al gobbled up everything hit his way and we had great running catches by LC Chip and LF Jeff. The tower combo of Lisa and Craig kept us in line, thanks for helping. Thank you Jeff Smith for keeping our scorebook, enjoy the banana bread. After the 1st week of Copper League play, all teams are tied for 1st and Last at 1 and 1, it should be interesting.
"

Thanks subs Gale Hiser and William Parker. and the Umps and score tower.

Thunderbird Auto - 13 WyYerd Fiber - 12

Thunderbird remembered their bats as they jumped out to an early lead and despite two bombs over the fence by Craig Nelson, they managed to hand on. Leading the hitting was DIck Nunez 4/4. Going 3/4 were Dave Fusaro double, Mike Hirsch, and Don Ranieri double. Sub Ken Silva and Ted Grove were 2/3. Eric Shouse and Howard Sumner were both 2/4. The outfield had numerous great plays to hold WyYerd in check. Thank you Ken for subbing!

"Three goose eggs contributed to the loss today. Craig Nelson hit the ball hard all day and racked up a HR and bunch of RBI's. Lisa Pelletier had a nice 2/3 day. Speedy Ray Gibson punched out a double and triple...maybe he doesn't need a pinch runner! Thank you to Kirk Andes for subbing for us this week. Wayne and John did an admirable job umpiring while Steve Katz pushed the buttons in the tower. Tough loss, but learned a lot about our team today. We will not give up and there will be better days and more timely hitting at the plate. Defensively we are solid and showed several different looks. Overall great game, just came up a run short. Two late games next week...see ya at the park!

Wheeler-Riley Realty - 16 Ranall's Realty - 17

Okay, Spring Weekday started with hits, hits and hits. No one was willing to give in after we got up SO early for this 7am start time. First five innings the Wheeler All Stars kept the lead and somehow this rascals on Ranalls snuck up on us and we couldn’t hold them at their last at bats. Bob Lessard(sub) and Larry Radant led our hitting with 4/4. Keep it up fellows. Steve Lunde(sub) and Chuck Gibson put up 3/4 while Robert Blainey tacked on 3/3. Nine RBI’s were tallied by Lunde & Radant, woohoo for those bats. Sub Steve Foster made some awesome stretches at first for outs and took two walks on balls to get on those bases, good team play, Steve. We will be suited up and ready to win Wednesday at the early bird game, again. Tried & True get those gloves oiled up and slippery, please.

"Opening day, Blue Skies and lots of sunshine, top it off with an exciting softball game. Tride and True won the game 16-10 but that doesn't begin to tell the story. First of all Petelin Vision took a 10-9 lead into the seventh inning but The Exterminators blinded them with a 7 Run inning and then shut them down in the bottom half. Petelin had the lead from the very first innings right up to the seventh. Tride and True almost doubled their run total in the seventh, it all began with a leadoff hit, then after one out, 6 batters in a row got hits. The offense was led by Lead-off hitter Mike Kachurak with a 5-5 day scoring 4 Runs. He was followed by Kim Hurd with a 3 for four day including a Run Scored, 4 RBI, Run Scored and an Inside the Park Home Run. Ed Campbell had 2 Hits, Walk, Triple, Run Scored and 2 RBI, Sub Lanny Auburg 2 Hits, Bill Marchionni had a Hit that led to 3 RBI, Sub Tvonne Becker had 2 Walks and a Run Scored. Sheldon Rosenthal HIt, Walk, Sacrifice Fly, Run Scored and RBI, he also had several great defensive plays at Rover. Roger Lopossa Hit, Walk, Triple, 2 Runs Scored Sac Fly and 5 RBI. Dave Gjerstad Hit, Walk and 4 Runs scored. The outfield made several excellent defensive catches, Left Fielder Ed Campbell, Left Center Kim Hurd and Right Center Mike Kachurak. The infield turned in a couple of key double plays, started by Dave Gjerstad 3b and Roger Lopossa Shortstop, finished by First Baseman Lanny Auburg and Catcher Jack Braly. Great team effort by all and kudo's to Petelin who looked like winners for the first six innings but I've seen this happen more times than I can count, that darn seventh inning curse. "

Copper Division

Canyon State HVAC - 10 WyYerd Fiber - 12

First game and it was a battle. Canyon State got runs early and late but was a little off in the middle innings. Defense was good most of the game but a few errors here and there. Overall a good game for Canyon State. Just a little short in the 7th. looks like this team will be good after our first game with new people to get to know. Great job guys, Leading hitters: Brad Brulotte 4/4, 2 doubles. 3/4 was Bod Winkler, John Boland, Randy Van Wagner and Greg Roehm. Greg and Brad each had 3 rbi's. Good to see Steve Kats playing again. Thanks umps and score tower.

"No need to mention individuals in today's write up. It was a slow start..guys are used to 8:30 start so the 7:45 thing threw the boys and girl off a bit. Right around the third inning we woke up a bit. It was a total team effort. At Least one key play from every position and some timely hits from every spot in the line up. The weather was fantastic and the umpiring was pretty good too! Thanks Dave and John, nice job. We've got a nice group of players and should be competitive throughout the season. See y'all Thursday morning!
"

Fast Signs - 10 Thunderbird Automotive - 6

On a gorgeous Spring "Opening Day" at the Field of Dreams, FastSigns defeated Thunderbird Auto 10-6 in their first Copper League game of the season. The FastSigns 11 played great defense, with great catches by all of our outfielders, LF Jeff Watson, LC Charles "Chip" Robertson, RC Ken "HiHo" Silva and RF Kirk Andes. SS Al Caillouette was great as he turned grounders into outs and made a fantastic running over the shoulder catch. Sub 2nd baseman Ray "Ray" Gibson and Rover Les Zirbel made all of the plays and completed outs to 1st baseman John Hammel. It was a real pleasure to watch the great defense! Had it not been for a 3 run home run over the fence by T'Bird, we would have held the hard-hitting 'Birds to only 3 runs. That's a big "IF". Shout out to Eric Shouse for the homer, finally he was able to run the bases at 50% speed (ok, he only made it to 1st base)! Offensively, we had 3 perfect hitters, Kirk Andes 4/4, Les Zirbel 3/3 and Ken Silva 3/3 (Les and Ken both with 2 RBI), Chip was 2/4 with 2 RBI, Al was 2/4 with an RBI and outstanding 3rd baseman Jeff "a shadow of his former self" Nickerson was also 2/4 with 2 RBI. Ray, Jeff and Pitcher Danny Wood were all 1/3 to round out the hitting barrage. Catcher Paul Jinneman (or is it gentleman?) was perfect behind the plate. A big and I mean Big thanks to home plate umpire Brian Pin and umpire Jeff "smash 'em" Heary in the field as well as Gary Ambruz in the tower. A special thank you to Grand Softball HOF'er Jeff Smith for keeping a perfect scorebook (there'll be a little something extra in your paycheck). Another special recognition goes to our sponsor FastSigns, Jeff Thomas, thank you for sponsoring us in our new Copper League spring season.

The T-Birds had trouble getting their bats going as they fell behind early and couldn't make up the difference. They did pull within 1 in the 6th when Eric Shouse 1/3 rifled a shot over the center field wall for a 3 run home run. Otherwise Dick Nunez, Howard Sumner double, and Tom Gibans were all 2/3. Thank you to John Nicodemo for subbing
