Regency Specialties 16  Canyon State 4
Regency:  On a very pleasant Friday morning Regency came to play.   The final score was Regency 16 Canyon State 4.    23 hits for Regency and great defense made for a great game.   Kim Hurd was 2 for 4; Fred Jensen went 2 for 2 and a walk; John Hammel went 2 for 3 with one rbi; Brad Johnson went 3 for 3 with 2 rbi’s; David Power went 3 for 3 with 3 rbi’s; Dave Anthony  went 2 for 3 with 2 rbi’s; Billy Parker went 2 for 3  with 2 rbi’s; Ted Grove went 2 for 3 with 4 rbi’s; Gary Armstrong went 1 for two and a walk; Chip Stanczak went 2 for 3 with 1 rbi; and Rick Schultz was 1 for 3 with 1 rbi. Chip, Kim, and Billy hit triples!  Great defense rounded the game out for a good win.
Canyon:  Congratulations to the Regency Specialties team which defeated Canyon State in a mercy shortened 5-inning game by a score of 16-4.  Their hitting and defensive skills made them look like a first place contending team today.  We didn’t give them much of a run for the money by only scoring 4 runs on 11 hits.  Highlights for the Canyon State team included ……. getting to play a kid’s game on a nice sunny morning when it wasn’t too hot or too cold, and we had very little wind.  We bid a fond farewell to Jeff “Stretch” Tucker who played a great first base for us, and to Becky Holliday who played a great rover for us.  You were both great teammates and we wish you safe travels home.  Thank you for Rick Armentano and Dan Newman for subbing for us again; Troy Macqueen and Ted Schneider for coaching the bases and encouraging us along; Linda Jinneman for keeping the scorebook; Danny Wood and Tim Schiewe for umpiring (at least you got to go home early); and Randy Van Wagner in the score tower.

Canyon State 21  One Stop Tile 9
Canyon:  The Canyon State eleven had the scouts in the stands making plenty of positive notes in their scorebooks about our hitting and defensive skills today.  We pulled ahead with a 10 to 1 lead after 2 innings and never looked back as we sent One Stop Tile to the floor by a score of 21 to 9 in a mercy shortened 6-inning game.  All our outfielders made great catches including a game-ending running catch by Gary Kuhlman and several running catches by Greg Martin.  Kim Macqueen caught several difficult infield fly balls.  We banged out 28 hits in 38 at bats.  Leading hitters were Bruce “Welcome Back” Lowe who was 4 for 4 with a double and home run (albeit senior aided) and 5 RBIs, sub-Rick Armentano who was also 4 for 4 with a double, Jeff Tucker 4 for 4, and sub-Dan Newman and Kim Macqueen who were both 3 for 3.  Gary Kuhlman and sub-Tim Brown added 3 hits each.  Everyone else had at least one hit.   Thank you for Rick Armentano, Dan Newman, and Tim Brown for subbing for us; Troy “Still a Youngster” Macqueen for sending 19 runners around 3rd base (only 2 ignored his stop sign); Linda Jinneman for keeping the scorebook; Chip Stanczak and Jeff Heary for umpiring; and Kevin Katsuki in the score tower.  Tomorrow we will be bidding a fond farewell for the remainder of the season to Becky Holliday and Jeff Tucker, so we’ll be working extra hard to keep Regency Specialties on their toes.
One Stop:  One Stop Tile fell behind Canyon State in the top of the second, 10-0, and never recovered, eventually getting mercied in the sixth inning, 21-9.  Canyon State played great in the field and at the plate as they scored in every inning.  One Stop Tile had a number of hard hit balls, but they often found Canyon State gloves.
Offensively, Kenny Shick collected a walk and a sac fly (RBI) and scored once, Dave Dompier pounded three hits (double, RBI) and scored once, Jim Opyd hit a sac fly (RBI) and acquired a walk,  John Gavazza nailed a single (RBI) and a walk, Kenny Krzeminski ripped two singles (RBI), David Maligro hammered a double and a sac fly (RBI) and scored once, Todd Fletcher slugged three hits (double, 2 RBI), Roger Neumann hit a sac fly (RBI), Ray Gibson cracked two hits and scored once, C.L. Eversman banged a single and scored twice, and Dick Hansen stroked two hits and scored once.  Fifteen hits and a number of miscues were an unfortunate combination for us today.  Thanks to C.L. Eversman for subbing for One Stop Tile today.
Heather Van Peursem 13 Flames 6
Heather:  It was a cool Thursday morning at the Field of Dreams as Heather Van Peursem outlasted the Flames 13-6.  With solid pitching and great fielding, we held the heavy hitting Flames lineup to just 6 runs as they scored in only 3 innings with 4 gooseggs.  By one of my teammates' accounts, the Flames hit into 17 fielder's choices, that's a lot of ground balls.  Great defense by all.  Offensively we were led by 3rd baseman Brett Frangenberg who was 4/4 with 2 triples and 5 RBI and LCF John "Rocket" Recob was 3/3 with 4 RBI and a sac. fly.  Also with 3 hits were Rover Mark Beckner, RCF Bob Tarr (RBI) and 1st baseman Dan Newman (3/3).  With 2 hits were P Danny Wood (2 runs & RBI) and RF Jim Jozwowski.  Rounding out our hit parade with a hit each were LF Randy Ratcliff, SS Murray "Stormy" Fairweather, 2nd baseman Frank Plahutnik and finally C Paul Larson who drove in 2 runs.  Thank you to the ever present Mark Jessen for his work in the Tower and the 8:45 scoreboard/clock.  Rod Wilterdink and John Hardy handled the umpiring.  Once again Roxy and Sally put the pencil to the scorebook and thanks for that.
Flames:  The Orange guys started out great, scoring 3 in the first inning, only to have team Heather match us with 3 of their own in the bottom half of the inning, tying the game up. After both teams threw up zeros in the 2nd and 3rd innings, Heather took the lead, scoring 2 in their half of the 4th inning, and never looked back. The Flames were outscored 8 to 3 in the final 3 frames, with the final score 13 - 6 in favor of Heather Van Peursem. The Flames played decent defensively, with left fielder Brian Martin having a busy day chasing down fly balls, and a really nice double play turned going from 3B Brad Johnson, to Rover Rick Armentano, to 1B Chuck Frazier. Team Heather played an outstanding defensive game. The Flames hit into 14 fielder's choices! I’m going to have nightmares seeing Mark Beckner grabbing well hit balls in short center, and throwing out orange jersey after orange jersey at 2nd base! We just never got rolling at the plate, and the Heather infield knocked down or stopped every hard hit ball we tried to drive through to the outfield. Hat’s off to Danny Wood's squad!
Leading the Flames  offense today were sub Brad Johnson 3 for 4, 2 RBI: sub Rick Armentano 3 for 4; Larry Radant, 2 for 3; All going 2 for 4 were sub David Power, with a double, 1 run, 1 RBI; Mitch Craun, 1 run, and Chuck Frazier, 1 double, 3 RBI; Sub Dean Schoeberl 1 hit, 1 walk, 2 runs scored, and Jim Courtney, 1 hit, 2 runs scored.  Thanks much to Dean Schoeberl, David Power, Rick Armentano, Brad Johnson and Kevin Katsuki for subbing for us! Thanks to the ever dependable Cathy Radant for keeping the scorebook. Although the pencil still had a point on it at the end of the game.
Fast Signs 9 Liberty GMC 8
Fast Signs:    In a classic down to the wire finish in a battle of two of the league's top teams our Fast Signs 11 finished on top by a 9-8 score over the first place Liberty squad. We held a 7-4 lead going into the 7th, but Bruce's squad showed a lot of fight forging ahead with four runs with a barrage of hits in the top of the 7th. Down 8-7 in the bottom of the 7th, our fast Signs responded with a rally of their own. With one out, Rod(2-3, 3R) singled to start the rally, Howard(2-4, 2 RBI))then lined a single, and the veteran Andy Campbell(4-4) sliced an extra base hit to the outfield scoring the tying and winning runs. Our defense shined today with everyone doing their part. Bill Tierney showed that he is getting back in the groove by showing range making key plays killing potential Liberty rallies. Another highlight was a perfectly executed relay from Bruce Lowe at the outfield wall to Chip to Tom Yurkunas at 3B as the batter tried to go for a triple. Tim Brown(2-3) did his usual scoops of low throws at1B preventing throwing errors. Don Trenda was a perfect 3-3(2 RBI) and converted a key out at home in the 7th. Tim Schiewe(2-4) made a key catch as he and fellow outfielders Lowe, Sumner, and Chlebeck made all the plays. The win makes it 7 of the last 8 in the win column for the Fast Signs crew. Coach Ted and the injured Dan Davidson coaching third and first respectively kept the runners awake and moving while Wood and D Neuman worked together nicely umpiring.
Liberty:  After falling behind 7-4 heading into the 7th inning, Liberty rallied with 4 runs to take a 8-7 lead.  Fast Signs came back in the bottom of the 7th with 2 runs to emerge with a 9-8 victory.  Pitcher Dennis Karcher 3 for 3 with a double plated 3 runs.  Sub Murray Fairweather 2 for 4 with a double added 2 RBI.  Dean Schoeberl 3 for 4, John Bertholdy with a hit, and sub Eric Coudret with a hit  each had a RBI in this low-scoring affair.  Thanks again to Murray and Eric for filling in today!

Regency Specialties 8  Fast Signs 3
Regency:  The wind was brutal this afternoon at the field of dreams.  Regency Specialties came out victorious in a low scoring game 8-3. Even with the wind Regency turned in a solid defensive game with outstanding plays at every position.  Offensively, we scored enough to hold a normally hard-hitting Rod Wilterdink team scoreless in 6 of the 7 innings played in the dust.  Leading hitters were Dave Anthony(double) and Bill Parker(double) who were a perfect 3/3 at the plate.  Chip Stanczak was 2/3, Fred Jensen 2/4, and Brad Johnson and John Hammel were both 1/2 with a walk each.  Everyone contributed in one way or another, a great team effort including a pitching gem from Dave Anthony in the swirling wind.  Thanks to Paul Johne and David Maligro umpires, and we think Dave Swanson in the windswept tower, once we find him, he was last seen over New Mexico.
Fast Signs:  Our Fast Signs offense hit a roadblock today in the form Of Regency Specialties and the left-handed offerings of Dave Anthony in an 8-3 loss. The wind was a big factor for both teams as the pitches were moving to and fro. While it resulted in a couple walks by both sides, the wind seemed to be more of a problem for the batters as both teams hit a lot of soft balls. Regency Specialties opened up a 6-0 lead in the third inning and we could only muster a 3 run sixth inning. Andy played another strong game at SS to lead a defense that was pretty solid for much of the game. Offensively highlights were few with sub Ron Silberman going 3-4 to lead the way. Jon Chlebeck had a hit and a walk and 2 RBI. Tim Schiewe drew a base on balls and a hit and Tom Yurkunas went 2-3. Kris and Ted did their usual good work, but didn't have much action.
Flames 13  One Stop Tile 12
Flames:  It was a breezy day at the Field of Dreams. It was a closely contested battle between the Flames and the One Stop Tile squad. With the Flames up after 3 innings, 7 to 4, thanks to Mitch Craun’s 3 run over the fence home run in the Flames half of the 3rd inning. It was tied at 11 at the end of 5, with Mitch Craun’s 2nd over the fence home run of the game. This one a 2 run shot in the 5th inning. One Stop Tile took their first lead of the day 12 - 11, with a run in the bottom of the 7th. Up came the Flames in the home half of the 7th inning, needing 1 to tie, and 2 to win. Big man Chuck Frazier led off the inning, already having a great day with 3 doubles under his belt. After almost fouling out, Chuck hit a high long drive to right center over the Liberty Buick sign for our third over the fence home run game, tying the score at 12 each! Sub Eric Coudret came to the plate and knocked out a hit. Following a fly ball out to right center, sub Jeff Tucker came up and drilled a hit down the left field line, moving Eric Coudret into scoring position at 2nd base. Striding to the plate came clutch RBI man, Don Cole. Don placed a perfect hit between the Rover and the 2nd baseman, knocking in the speedy Eric Coudret from 2nd base. The Flames won a thriller, 13 - 12, over a resilient One Stop Tile team.
Leading the Flames  offense today were Mitch Craun, 3 for 4, 2 HR, 3 runs, 5 RBI; Chuck Frazier, 4 for 4, 3 doubles, 1 HR, 3 runs, 3 RBI, with the clutch game tying HR; Don Cole, 3 for 4, 2 RBI, with the clutch game winner!; Jim Courtney, 3 for 3, with a walk, 3 runs, 1 RBI; Sub Jeff Tucker, 3 for 4;  Larry Radant, 2 for 3; Sub Eric Coudret, 2 for 4, 1 big run in the 7th; Sub Randy Van Wagner, 2 for 4 1 run, 2 RBI; Sub Bruce Lowe, 2 for 4, a triple, 2 runs. Thanks to Bruce Lowe, Randy Van Wagner, Jeff Tucker and  for subbing for us today! Thanks to Cathy Radant for keeping the scorebook!
One Stop:  One Stop Tile and Dave Swanson’s Famous Flames battled to the very end of the seventh inning and the Flames pulled a win out of the fire, 13-12!!!!  It was an exciting game throughout, and Open Tile held the lead 12-11 going into the Flames’ bottom of the seventh.  The Flames delivered two runs in their last at-bat to pass the One Stop Tile team for the 13-12 victory.  Defensive gems were turned in by David Maligro, Dave Dompier, Todd Fletcher, sub Rick Armentano, John Gavazza, Jim Opyd and Laura Fenton.
Offensively, One Stop Tile was led by Rick Armentano with three hits and a run scored, Dave Dompier with a single and run scored, Jim Opyd with two hits and a run scored, John Gavazza with three hits and a run scored, Kenny Krzeminski with two hits and a run scored, David Maligro with two hits and a run scored, Laura Fenton with three hits and two runs scored, Roger Neumann with a single and a walk and two runs scored, Ray Gibson with two hits and a walk and a run scored, Todd Fletcher with three hits and a walk and a run scored, and Dick Hansen with two hits.  Unfortunately, One Stop Tile had a tough time scoring with runners in scoring position - in part due to some excellent defensive plays at the right time by The Flames.  Thanks to sub Rick Armentano in left center and Roger Neumann and Dave Dompier on the scorebook.
Liberty GMC 20  Heather 8
Liberty:  After a scoreless 1st inning, Liberty GMC plated 4 runs in the 2nd inning to take a 4-0 lead ; but fell behind 5-4 in the top of the 3rd inning.  After responding with 5 runs in each of the next three innings and 1 more in the 6th, Liberty emerged with a 6 inning victory.  Kevin Katsuki 4 for 4 with 2 doubles and Jeff Heary 3 for 4 with a double each drove in 4 runs.  John Bertholdy 3 for 3 added 3 more RBI.  Randy Van Wagner 3 for 4, Ronnie Silberman 2 for 4, and winning pitcher Dennis Karcher with a hit and sacrifice fly each plated 2 runs.  Sean Baker 2 for 3 with a walk, Jim Burnett 3 for 3 with a double, and Curt Rhoades 3 for 3 each had a RBI.  Dean Schoeberl with 2 runs scored and Skip Pavitt with a run scored each had one hit as all players had at least one hit and figured in the scoring.  Burnett, Schoeberl, Heary and Bertholdy also made key defensive plays during the contest.
Heather:  In an April Fools Day game, we went from scoring 18 runs in our last game to 8 runs today as we were mercy-ed 20-8 by the Liberty GMC truck guys.
Our defense was porous for the most part and our hitting almost non existent as we hit 17/28 for a paltry .607 avg. for the day.  Offensively, Rover Mark Beckner was 3/3 with a triple and 2 runs and 2 RBI and SS Murray Fairweather was 2/2 with a sac. fly 2 RBI and a run. LCF Dan Newman had 2 RBI as did 3rd baseman Brett Frangenberg. We'll try again on Thursday as we look forward to Ted Schneider's "all you can eat" Wisconsin hot dogs. Thank you Sally Beckner for keeping our scorebook, you'll get a free hot dog on Thursday.

Heather Van Peursem 18  One Stop Tile 16
Heather:  In a Friday game, Heather Van Peursem won a hard fought victory over the Dick Hansen led One Stop Tile team 18-16.       We trailed 13-7 after 3 innings, but stellar pitching and strong defense held the tile boys to only 3 runs while we racked up 11.       As the visitor, we trailed 16-14 going into the 7th inning, but our 10 and 11 hitters opened the inning with a double (Ratcliff) and a single (Wood), to set the stage for our top of the lineup guys and we took the lead with a 4 spot 18-15.    A game-ending running catch by Randy Ratcliff sealed the deal, allowing only one run to score.
Defensively, our 1st baseman Paul "Digger" Larson made several nice pick ups of errant throws as did our Catcher Jim "double J" Jozwowski.  2nd baseman Frank "the Tank" Plahutnik stabbed a hard line drive late in the game to quell a rally.
Both SS Murray "Stormy" Fairweather and Rover Mark Beckner made several outstanding plays.
Offensively, the SS and Rover were both 5/5, Beckner with 4 runs, 2 RBI and a triple, while "Stormy" had 2 runs and 3 RBI.
With 4 hits were  C JJ Jozwowski (2 runs and an RBI), LCF John "JAR" Recob 4/4 (2 runs, 4 RBI) and Digger Larson 4/4 (2 runs, 2 ribbies).  Also in the hit parade with 3 hits were 3rd baseman Brett "Slide" Frangenberg, Randy "the Rat" Ratcliff including a double in the last inning and P Danny Wood 3/4 with a run and 2 RBI.  Dan "Hello" Newman, Frank the Tank and RF Bob Tarr "and feather" each had 2 hits.  Overall, our best game of the year hitting 37/48 for a .771 average.  Many thanks to umpires Rod "Winkerdink" Wilterdink, Tim Schewe and Rick Armentano as well as Ted Koch in the tower.  As always, Roxy and Sally Beckner kept a perfect book and this time she had to sharpen the pencil during the game.
One Stop:   In a battle of two evenly matched teams, the outcome was in doubt until the final out of the game!  And the Heather Van Peursem team prevailed over One Stop Tile, 18-16.  One Stop Tile led through the first three innings,13-7, but team Van Peursem put up a five spot in the fifth and a four spot in the top of the seventh that the One Stop Tile team was unable to match.  One Stop Tile had the bases loaded with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but couldn’t push across the necessary runs to win or tie the game.  Credit to the Heather Van Peursem team for making the needed defensive stops to seal the victory.
Offensively, One Stop Tile had plenty of base runners, but left 20 on base.  Kenny Shick smacked two hits (RBI) and scored three times, Dave Dompier pounded three hits (double, RBI) and a sacrifice fly while scoring twice, sub Bruce Lowe went a perfect 5/5 (2 RBI) and scored four times, John Gavazza slammed four hits and collected a walk (3 doubles, 9 RBI!) and scored twice, Kenny Krzeminski collected a walk and a hit and scored once, David Maligro crunched four singles (RBI), Ray Gibson nailed a single (2 RBI), sub Jeffery Tucker ripped two singles, Todd Fletcher lined a single and scored once, Dick Hansen laced a single and scored once, and Roger Neumann had a perfect 3/3 day plus a walk while scoring twice.  A special thanks to subs Bruce Lowe and Jeffery Tucker for their contributions today.  In addition, we were very pleased to have scorekeeper Tom Gruzs return to our dugout after back surgery just two weeks ago.  Thanks to all!

Flames 14  Liberty GMC  7
Flames:  Wow! That sure felt good! The Flames snapped their 6 game tailspin with a 14 to 7 win over the first place Liberty GMC squad. The tone of the game was set in the first inning. With speedster Paul Johne leading off the game with a gap triple to left center, with the rest of the Flames lineup following suit and banging out hit after hit to the tune of 5 runs. While scoring 5 in the first was great. The real star of the game was the Flame defense. A very good Liberty GMC team came up in the home half of the first, and scored nothing. Pitcher Larry Radant kept Liberty off balance all game. Never giving up more than 2 runs in an inning. In the first, the Flames outfield duo of Brian Martin in left, and Bob Lessard in right made nice catches on well hit balls, Brian was on the warning track for one of them. The outfield played well the entire game. Mitch Craun and Jim Courtney jumping in and making nice running grabs. The infield joined the party in the second inning with Greg Roehm deep in the hole and getting a critical out at 2nd base. In the 3rd inning, Don Cole had a tough backhanded pluck at Rover to get an unassisted out at 2nd base. In the 4th inning, Chuck Frazier broke in nicely to grab a tough foul pop up down the first base line. Greg Roehm had another tough play at deep short in the 4th getting the runner at 2nd. The 6th inning saw another nice grab in left by Brian Martin, a tough play by 2nd baseman Paul Johne, and a grab of a grounder going to his left by sub 3rd baseman Bud Bandfield, throwing out the runner at 2nd. The 7th inning had a real nice running catch by Right Center Fielder Jim Courtney, another tough play by Rover Don Cole, throwing out the runner at first, and a hard hit line drive caught by 3rd baseman Bud Bandfield to end the game.
Leading the Flames  offense today were Chuck Frazier, 4 for 4, a double, 3 runs, 2 RBI; Don Cole, 3 for 3, with a clutch double! 1 run, 3 RBI;  Paul Johne, 3 for 4, a double, a triple, 2 runs, 1 RBI; Greg Roehm,3 for 4, 2 runs; Jim Courtney, 3 for 4, a double, 1 run, 1 RBI; Bob Lessard, 3 for 4, a double, 1 run, 2 RBI; Mitch Craun, 2 for 4, 3 runs; Brian Martin, with a triple, 1 RBI; Sub Bud Bandfield, a hit, 1 run, 2 RBI; Larry Radant, 1 hit, 1 RBI. Thanks to Bud Bandfield for subbing for us today! Thanks to Cathy Radant for keeping the scorebook!
Liberty:  Liberty GMC fell behind 14-3 heading into the bottom of the 4th inning; but could only muster 4 runs in the remaining frames to drop a 14-7 decision for the team's 3rd loss of the season.  Jim Burnett with a hit and Skip Pavitt with 3 hits each had 2 RBI.  Dean Scheberl 3 for 4, injury replacement Bruce Lowe 4 for 4 with a double, John Bertholdy with a hit, and Dennis Karcher each plated a run.  Jeff Heary made an unassisted double play and threw out a runner at home; and Dean Schoeberl made afine fielding play and converted a double play with Heary as Liberty shut down the Flames over the final three innings.
Regency Specialties 19  Canyon State 7
Regency:  Regency Specialties put together another good game on a beautiful spring morning at the Field of Dreams.  After trailing in the first inning we put up 5 runs in 3 straight innings and tightened up our defense to best Canyon State 19-7 in a 6 inning mercy.  Leading hitters were Dave Anthony 4/4, sub Kevin Katsuki(triple)and David Power(walk) were 3/3. Kim Hurd(double), Fred Jensen, Brad Johnson(2 doubles), were all 3/4.  Bill Parker(double), Gary Armstrong(double) and Rick Schultz were 2/3.  John Hammel was 2/4.  Ted Grove made a great play at first, getting the batter then firing home to get the second out at the plate.  Thanks to sub Kevin Katsuki, umpires Rick, Tim Schiewe, David Maligro, and our resident scoreboarder Mark Jessen.
Canyon:  After two innings, we were behind by only 1 run – 7 to 6.  Then Regency Specialties did a thorough examination of our strengths and weaknesses, and with surgical precision cut us down by a final score of 19 to 7 in a mercy terminated game.  They did a good job of hitting ‘em away from our fielders, and we did a good job of providing too many early Christmas presents.  Gary Kuhlman, with 3 hits including a double, and Greg Martin going 3 for 3, were our hitting stars for the day.  Ted Schneider and Becky Holliday also had doubles, as did Jeff Tucker who extended his team leading total of 10 doubles in 14 games so far.  Wayne Weidenbach, Bruce “Welcome Back” Lowe, Ted, and Becky had 2 hits each.  Everyone else had a hit.  Our one defensive gem of the day was a foul ball caught by catcher Steve Willoughby.  Thank you to Rick Armentano for stepping in for the injured Ted Schneider, our team leading hitter and esteemed leader of our softball club – hope you heal quickly and fully.  And thank you to Linda “Birthday Girl” Jinneman for keeping the scorebook; and Allen and Jan Bellew for birthday treats.  And for those who are wondering, the age difference between Linda and I is not quite as great as Bill Belichick and his girlfriend.  Enjoy your day!
Fast Signs 8  One Stop Tile 6
Fast Signs:  In a league where offense if often the name of the game, both teams played good defense today as our Fast Signs team won 8-6 against One Stop. The opponents 7th inning was a good example as the ever present Wes corralled a smash by the leadoff hitter, spun and threw to first to set the tone for the inning. Andy played a steady SS and Tim Brown played a strong 1B scooping out two throws. Howard was the hitting star driving in 3 of the 5 runs with a triple and double and sub Fred Jensen drove in a pair and Jon Chlebeck (2-3) scored twice via a pinch runner. In what was not our best hitting day, Ted had them running and Rod and Wes contributed a pair of hits, After starting the season 3-5, we have now won six in a row to move from the bottom of the league up to 2nd place. We say "Good bye" to Wes and welcome to Bill Tierney who is joining us for the rest of the season. Thanks to Fred and Mitch Craun for subbing and special thanks to Mitch for filling the pinch running role.
One Stop:  Due to a lack of offense by both One Stop Tile and Fast Signs, this game more or less turned into a pitchers’ duel between Roger Neumann and Rod Wilterdink.  After two innings, the game was tied 2-2, but then the Fast Signs guys pounded the ball for four rums in the third to pull ahead 6-2.  After a scoreless fourth inning, One Stop Tile’s lineup scored three runs in the top of the fifth to make things interesting, 7-5.  However, Fast Signs answered with a run in the bottom of the fifth to hold the lead at 7-5.  Both teams added a run in the sixth, but that ended the scoring,  Final score was 8-6 for Fast Signs.  Defensively, nice outfield catches were turned in by Todd Fletcher, Kenny Shick, John Gavazza and Jim Opyd.
Offensively, Kenny Shick hammered two singles and scored twice, Dave Dompier was a perfect 4/4 (double) and scored twice, Jim Opyd had a single and sacrifice fly (two RBI), John Gavazza banged three hits (double, 3 RBI), Kenny Krzeminski slapped a single, David Maligro drilled three hits (double) and scored once, Laura Fenton lined a single, Dick Hansen nailed a double (RBI), and Roger Neumann collected a walk and scored once.  Sixteen hits and six runs just wasn't enough to earn the win today.. Gotta hit!  Special thanks to Danny Wood for keeping our scorebook.  Thanks!

Fast Signs: The Flames came out as hot as the weather, hitting the ball hard for a 7-2 early lead and it would have been worse for the home team if it wasn't for a great play by our rover with the bases loaded the kept the Flames from having a big first inning. Then in the bottom of the third, the worm turned as our offense heated up and the Flames cooled down in a game we eventually won 18-10. Starting with third inning, we put up 3 consecutive 5 spots as our two Tim's, both 3-4, coming through in the clutch time after time with Brown notching 5 RBI and Schiewe 4 RBI. Another clutch hit was a Don Trenda double that helped open a big lead late. Of course, you need guys on base led by the patient Jon with two walks and a hit and a 4-4 game by Andy Campbell. Howard and Wes were 3-4 and they both ran the bases well. Stellar infield play eventually shut down the flames with Tom Y, Andy, Brett F, and Tim Brown in addition to Wes all coming up with key plays snuff out potential rallies. Thanks to Eric Coudret(1-3, BB) and Brett Frangenberg(2-4) for subbing in 95 degree heat. Improved defense puts us on a 5 game win streak. Excellent umpiring by Mr. Hardy, Commissioner Rick, and Murray.
Flames:  We stood toe to toe with a very hard hitting Fast Signs team, tied at 7 each after 3 innings. Things went astray in the 4th inning, when the orange guys were held scoreless in their half of the 4th, followed by the Fast Signs squad plating their second straight 5 run max in the bottom of the 4th. The Flames scored 2 in their half of the 5th, only to be outdone by Fast Signs scoring their third consecutive 5 spot in the bottom of the 5th.   What started out as a close contest now turned into a romp. The teams traded single runs between the 6th and 7th innings, for a final of 18 - 10 in favor of Fast Signs. We had a few nice defensive plays. In the 2nd inning, Second baseman Paul Johne going back on a pop up over his head in short right. Left Center Fielder Mitch Craun making a few above average grabs, including a nice shoestring catch in the 1st inning. Sub third baseman Dave Dompier grabbing a tough foul pop up near the fence down the third base line. And first baseman Chuck Frazier grabbing a sizzling line drive headed down the first base line in the 6th inning.
Leading the Flames  offense today were Chuck Frazier, 4 for 4, a double, 1 run, 3 RBI; Mitch Craun, 3 for 3, 3 runs, 2 RBI; Jim Courtney, 3 for 4, 2 runs. All with 2 hits - Sub Dick Hansen, with a triple, and 1 RBI; Don Cole, 1 run; Paul Johne, 1 run; Greg Roehm, with a double, 1 run; Adding hits were, sub Dave Dompier, 1 RBI; Bob Lessard, with 1 RBI; Larry Radant, 1 run scored; Brian Martin, with a double, and 2 RBI. Thanks to Dick Hansen and Dave Dompier for subbing for us today!  Thanks to Dave Nathe for keeping the scorebook both today, and throughout the season when he wasn't playing! We really appreciate you helping us out!
Liberty GMC 18  Regency Specialties  16
Liberty:   Liberty GMC escaped with the team's 10th win of the season as Liberty bested 2nd place Regency Specialties by a 18-16 margin.  The game could be best captured by its fielding (mis-)adventures up to and including the last out of the game.  Every player had at least two hits, with Jeff Heary 3 for 5 with a double and sub Ken Shick 2 for 3 with a triple and walk each plating 3 runs.  Kevin Katsuki 3 for 3, Curt Rhoades 2 for 3 with a sacrifice fly, and Sean Baker  2 for 3 with a walk each adding a double and 2 RBI.  Dean Schoeberl 3 for 4, Randy Van Wagner 3 for 4 with a double, Skip Pavitt 2 for 4, John Bertholdy 3 for 4 and winning pitcher Dennis Karcher 2 for 4 each finished with a RBI.  Ronnie Silberman had 2 hits on the day and played through an early injury.  Thanks again to sub Ken Shick for filling in and making key contributions today.
Regency:  Regency Specialties played a good game today against the first place Liberty GMC, coming up just short in the 7th inning on a spectacular catch by sub Kenny Schick.  We were behind the whole game but kept chipping away and had the tie run on board but couldn’t push it across.  The final score was 18-16, a well played game on both sides.  Leading hitters for Regency were Rick Schultz 4/4, Fred Jensen 4/5, Brad Johnson(triple), David Power, Ted Grove(double) and sub CL Eversman all 3/4 , and Dave Anthony(double) 2/4.  Everyone had at least a hit and played solid defense.  Thanks CL for subbing, and Dick Hansen and Wayne Weidenbach for umping and Greg Martin in the tower.
 Canyon State 13  Heather 11
Canyon:  In a back-and-forth six inning battle on a very warm Spring afternoon, the Canyon State eleven were able to close the deal with a 13-11 victory over Heather Van Peursem.  After falling behind 6-1 at the end of the 2nd inning, we fought back, scoring 12 runs in the next 3 innings while holding Heather
Van Peursem to 5 runs.  Both teams seemed ready to go home in the 6th inning, with neither team scoring any runs that inning.  We were able to hold Heather Van Peursem scoreless in the 6th thanks to Kim Macqueen backhanding a hard ground ball and throwing the runner out at 2nd base, Wayne Weidenbach pitching a called 3rd strike for the 2nd out, and sub-Greg Roehm roaming behind 3rd base to catch the game ending fly ball.  Kim (“It doesn’t get this hot in Canada”) Macqueen was our big hitter for the day with a bases-clearing double in the top of the 5th inning, adding to her team leading 4 RBI total.  Helping the cause with 3 hits each were Gary Kuhlman, Wayne, Ted Schneider, and Jeff Tucker.  Greg Martin was a perfect 2 for 2 at the plate with a walk.  Steve Willoughby, Paul Jinneman, Becky Holliday, and Kim all had 2 hits each, with Allen Bellew adding a hit.  Thank you to Greg Roehm for subbing for us;  Linda Jinneman for keeping the scorebook; Bob Lessard, Jim Courtney, and Rick Armentano for umpiring; and Larry Radant in the score tower.
Heather:  In a fairly low scoring 6 inning game, Heather Van Peursem fell to the hard hitting Paul "Gentleman" Jinneman Canyon State team 13-11.
After taking a commanding 6-1 lead against them after 2 innings, we were outscored 12-5 in the last 4 frames.   Offensively, we were led by Murray Fairweather 3/3 (RBI), Randy Ratcliff 3/3 (2RBI) and Frank Plahutnik also 3/3, also with 3 hits were Jim Jozwowski (2RBI) and Brett Frangenberg (3RBI).
Paul Larson doubled home a run and Dan Newman also had a double.  Everybody on the team had at least one hit, but just not always at the right time.
Bob Lessard and Jim Courtney did great as the umpires and Larry Radant kept the tower in check.  Again, many thanks to Sally Beckner for keeping our book.

Regency 16  Flames  4
Regency:  Regency Specialties scored 5 in the top of the first and never looked back scoring in all but one inning to win 16-4.  It all started on the first pitch as speedy Kim Hurd hit a laser down the third base line that went all the way to the wall scoring an in the park home run. Good defense from every position held the hard-hitting Flames at bay while our offense continued to come thru. Another good outing by pitcher Dave Anthony.  Leading hitters were Dave Anthony(double), Bill Parker, and Ted Grove all 4/4.  Rick Schultz was 2/3, and Kim Hurd(home run), Fred Jensen, sub Kevin Katsuki, Brad Johnson, John Hammel(triple), and Chip Stanczak(double) were all 2/4.  Everyone had at least one hit.  We ended it in the 6th with the last out on a great play from Gary Armstrong for the mercy.  Thanks to sub Kevin Katsuki, Danny(DW) Wood and Mark Beckner umpires, and Ted Koch in the tower.  Special thanks to Commissioner Don for the hard work this week while Commissioner Rick was away being part of championship team at St George.
Flames:  Ouch! The Orange 11 took another one on the chin today. Winning is tough when you have 4 Ohfors in your lineup! (I was one of them!) And it gets harder when only 4 guys your lineup have a multi hit game. We had 12 hits as a team, with only one for extra bases. Brian Holliday’s Regency Specialties squad absolutely manhandled us in all aspects of the game.
Leading the Flames' meager offense today were Bob Lessard, 3 for 3; Chuck Frazier, 2 hits, a double, 2 RBI; Paul Johne, 2 hits, 1 run, 1 RBI; and Larry Radant, 2 for 2. Thanks to Paul Larsen for last minute subbing for us today! Thanks to Cathy Radant for keeping the scorebook!

Fast Signs 15 Heather Van Peursem 8
Fast Signs:  What a difference a couple of weeks makes. A couple weeks ago the talented Heather squad drilled us on the 10 rule, but today was a different story as flip flopped them 15-8 for our 4th consecutive win. A common theme- we held the opposition to single digits each of those games behind solid pitching and  defense. While the whole defense was basically solid, double plays on good catches by Kim Hurd and Andy Campbell with the resulting throws to first beating the runner back to the base with Tim Brown scooping the latter on the short hop at 1st base. KIm Macqueen a midgame replacement did a nice job at 2B being involved in several outs. Campbbell was also a key on offense going 3-3(2B) and he had a team leading 4 RBI. Brown had a big bouceback game with 4 hits after wearing the collar on Tueday. Schiewe who has been automatic for us was with 3-3 and Rod followed suit. Other big contributors were Hurd,  Wes Green, Jim Burnett, and Mitch Craun with the latter having 3 RBI in addition to running the bases well. Thanks to Mitch, Jim, and the two Kims for helping us out subbing today. Ted and Jon were on top of things coaching at first and third communicating and keeping the traffic moving.
Heather:  Heather Van Peursem fell behind in the first inning 4-1 and never recovered, losing to the Rod Wilterdink led FastSigns team 15-8.  Defensively, Mark Beckner made a diving/falling catch from his Rover position in RF, Randy Ratcliff made a great over the shoulder catch in LF and RCF Dan Newman made a running back handed catch early in the game.  Offensively, Mark Beckner was 4/4 and 1B Paul Larson was 3/3.  Brett Frangenberg 2 RBI, John Recob RBI, Jim Jozwowski and Dan Newman RBI were all 3/4 with Jozwowski driving in 3 runs.  RF Bob Tarr was 2/2 with a walk.  P Danny Wood had the last RBI and scored twice.  Many thanks to Dave Nathe for umpiring home plate and Jeff "the Jet" Tucker on the infield.  Dean Schoeberl held "down" the tower.  Once again, Sally Beckner did a fine job keeping score.
Regency Specialties  17 One Stop Tile 10
Regency:.  Regency Specialties played one of our best games of the season today, beating a very good One Stop Tile team 17-10.  After leading 8-0 thru two innings, we let Dick Hansen’s gang get a five spot in the third to tighten up the score, but we came right back in the 4th with a 5 run inning ourselves.  One stop pecked away and after 6 we led 13-10.  It was a “two outs so what” 7th inning for our Regency hitters. After One Stop retired the first two batters, Bill Parker and Ted Grove got things started with singles, bringing up Chip Stanczak who smacked a triple to score them both. That was followed by singles from Gary Armstrong, Rick Schultz, and Kim Hurd giving us a 17-10 cushion.  We then retired the side in order for the win.  Leading hitters were sub Dave Nathe 3/3 with a double and a walk, Brad Johnson(2 doubles),Chip Stanczak(double, triple), and Rick Schultz were 3/4.  Kim Hurd and Fred Jensen were 3/5.  Bill Parker(double), Ted Grove, and Gary Armstrong were 2/4.  Everyone had at least one hit and several solid defensive plays were turned in.  Dave Anthony pitched another good game. Mike Wunsch did a great job keeping people moving on the bases.  We do have to tip our hat to opponent Kenny Schick, who made two of the finest defensive catches we have seen this year,  robbing us of more hits.  Thanks to subs Dave Nathe and Gary Kuhlman for helping out and John Hardy and Curt Rhoades for umpiring as well as Mark Jessen in the tower.
One Stop:  Regency Specialties came out of the dugout hitting hot with an 8-0 lead at the end of two innings and never looked back.  One Stop Tile had a couple good scoring innings, scoring five runs in the third and four runs in the sixth to make the game interesting at 13-10 going into the seventh.  However, Regency Specialties responded with four runs in the top of the seventh for what ended up being the final score 17-10.  Defensively, Kenny "Gold Glove” Shick made two spectacular catches in the outfield, but our team’s overall defense was sketchy at times.  We just didn’t hit well enough today to overcome our miscues against a fine Regency Specialties team.
Offensively, Kenny Shick drilled two hits (2 RBI) and scored twice, Dave Dompier connected on four hits (2 RBI) and scored twice, Jim Opyd collected a sac fly (RBI) and a single and a walk, John Gavazza ripped a single and scored once, Kenny Krzeminski pounded three hits, Ray Gibson banged two hits, David Maligro cranked a single, Laura Fenton cracked a single, Todd Fletcher crushed a triple and single and scored once, Dick Hansen lined a single and scored once, and Roger Neumann garnered a single and a walk while scoring once.  Big thank-yous to Jim Opyd who arrived early to repair a wheel on the pitching screen; Mark Jessen for setting up/running the scoreboard, opening the storage boxes and lining the field in Norm Lustig’s absence; and Ted Grove (Regency) for putting out all of the bases.  And additional thanks to John Hardy and Curt Rhoades for umpiring.
Canyon State 17  Liberty  GMC 14
Canyon:  A great all round team effort today helped the Canyon State eleven put the brakes on Liberty GMC, topping them by a score of 17-13.  The game was tied after 4 innings, and then Canyon State held Liberty GMC to 5 runs in the last 3 innings while scoring 9 in the 5th and 6th innings.  Our defense tightened up after being threatened with being handed an Airhead or Butterfinger by scorekeeper Linda Jinneman if one misplayed the ball.  Steve Willoughby and Jeff Tucker made critical catches of foul balls in the top of the 7th.  Kim Macqueen alertly picked up a deflection from Becky Holliday and threw the runner out at first by a step.  Pitcher Wayne Weidenbach helped the cause with 2 strikeouts.  We hit .650 as a team, with sub-Ray Gibson, Wayne, Ted “Birthday Boy” Schneider, and Gary Kuhlman all being perfect at the plate.  Becky was 3 for 4, as was Paul Jinneman who had a triple and 5 RBIs.  Jeff Tucker and Kim contributed two hits each, Steve had a hit, and Alan Bellew added a double for the cause.   A nice birthday present for our esteemed president Ted Schneider (be sure to thank him for all his efforts on the club’s behalf), and a reason for all of us to head home with smiles on our faces.  Thank you to Ray Gibson for subbing for us, Greg “Double Duty” Martin for his substitute running, Troy Macqueen for aggressively waving the runners on from 3rd base, Linda for keeping the scorebook and bringing the treats, Rick Schultz and Gary Armstrong for umpiring, and Howard Sumner in the score tower.
Liberty:  Liberty GMC tied Canyon State at 13 runs each heading into the bottom of the 6th inning, but yielded 4 runs to fall behind 17-13 and eventually losing 17-14.  Leading Liberty with 3 RBI each: Randy Van Wagner 3 for 3 with a double, a walk and 3 runs scored; and Kevin Katsuki 3 for 4.  Newcomer Jim Burnett with a triple and Skip Pavitt each added 2 hits and 2 RBI.  Dean Schoeberl 3 for 4 with a triple, Ronnie Silberman with a hit, Sean Baker 3 for 4, and John Bertholdy with 2 hits each plated a run.  Sub Paul Johne  went 1 for 4 with 2 runs scored.  Liberty GMC's record dropped to 9-2 after a rough week and looks to recover its mojo.

Fast Signs 17 Liberty GMC 8
Fast Signs:  Our Fast Signs squad ruined Liberty GMC's run at a perfect season with a flip flop 17-8 over the previously undefeated Liberty squad. Our defense was solid especially with 2 outs and our offense was relentless keeping the pressure on the home squad the whole game. Great defense by the outfield of Tim Schiewe, Tim Brown, Kim Hurd, and Kenny Shick keyed the defense with Kenny having and exceptional day and Hurd and Brown making catches looking into the sun. Offensively, Wes Green(3RBI,2B) and Rod were perfect on the day as we pounded out 27 hits. Ray Ray(3-4) was huge with 4 RBI in the cleanup hole including a first inning 2 RBI double in the 5 run first that gave us a nice lead and we never looked back. Kim, Andy Campbell, Schiiewe, and Shick were huge with 3 hits apiece while Yurkunas, Davidson, and Trenda each added a pair of base knocks. I was proud of the way the team pulled together and made clutch plays all game. Ted was exceptional coaching 3B stealing a couple runs and an injured Jon Chlebeck was his usual Mr Enthusiasm coaching 1B. Thanks to Danny Wood who did a good job as head umpire handling some tense situations.
Liberty:  Liberty GMC and Fast Signs were tied at 6 runs after 4 innings.  From that point forward, Fast Signs outscored Liberty 11-2 enroute to flip flop win.  Liberty suffered its first loss of the session, dropping the team's record to 9-1.  Dean Schoeberl with a double, walk and sacrifice fly and Randy Van Wagner with a hit each plated 2 runs.  Ron Silberman, Kevin Katsuki with a sacrifice flyJohn Bertholdy 3 for 3, and Skip Pavitt with a sacrifice fly each added a RBI.  Thanks to subs Brad Johnson with 2 runs scored and Dave Nathe with a run scored each going 3 for 4 on the day.
One Stop Tile 22  Canyon State 13
One Stop:  This game was much closer than the final score as it was 10-10 at the end of three innings.  However, One Stop Tile pulled away in the last four innings with twelve runs for a flip-flop win of 22-13 in seven innings.  Roger Neumann notched two key strikeouts in earning his fifth win of the season.  Kenny Shick, Jim Opyd and Todd Fletcher made excellent catches in the outfield.
Offensively, Kenny Shick opened the game with a booming triple to set the early tone.  Shick continued his hot hitting throughout the game with a total of four hits (triple, double, 4 RBI) and four runs scored, Dave Dompier ripped two hits (RBI) and scored twice, Jim Opyd hammered four hits and grabbed a walk (3 RBI) and scored five times, John Gavazza slugged five hits (triple, double, 5 RBI) and scored four times, Kenny Krzeminski banged four hits (triple, 5 RBI) and scored twice, Ray Gibson drilled two hits (2 RBI), David Maligro slapped a single, Laura Fenton stroked three hits (RBI) and a sacrifice fly, Todd Fletcher pounded two hits (RBI) and a sacrifice fly and scored once, Dick Hansen collected a walk and two hits and scored twice, and Roger Neumann lined two singles and scored twice. A big thank-you to Mike Sterricker for keeping our scorebook the day before rotator cuff surgery.  We wish him all the best today and beyond!  On a similar note, Tom Gruzs is recovering well from lower back surgery and we look forward to seeing him at the ball park soon.
Canyon:  The Canyon State eleven were stopped today by One Stop Tile by a score of 22-13.   After being down by a score of 10-2 going into the bottom half of the 2nd, we fought back to a 10-10 tie after 3 innings.  After that, our bats went cold and we had too many senior moments out in the field, yielding 12 runs to One Stop while only scoring 3 in the last 4 innings.  Leading hitters today with 3 hits each were Wayne Weidenbach, Allen Bellew (2 doubles), Ted “Theo!!!” Schneider (1 double), Steve Willoughby, and Paul Jinneman.  Contributing two hits each were Becky Holliday, Jeff Tucker (1 sac fly), and Kim Macqueen.  Gary Kuhlman and Greg Martin contributed a double each, and sub-Ted Grove added a hit.  Allen Bellew and Gary Kuhlman fought off the sun to make a couple of good catches in the outfield, and Greg Martin made a good running catch in left field.  Allen Bellew led the team with 3 RBIs.  Thank you to Ted Grove for subbing for us, Linda Jinneman for keeping the scorebook, Don Trenda and Dan Davidson for umpiring, and Randy Van Wagner in the score tower.
Heather Van Peursem 10  Flames 9
Heather:   In a low scoring game, the Heather Van Peursem eleven had the hammer and scored two runs in the bottom of the 7th to defeat The Flames 10-9.
Heather held a 7-3 lead going into the 6th, but gave up a 5 spot to trail 8-7.  However, we added 3 runs in the sixth and seventh vs. only one run for the Flames to cement the victory.  Both teams played very good defense, but on our side, super sub David Power made some great catches (including one "can of corn" in LCF and 3rd baseman Brett Frangenberg stunted the Flames offense with great plays.  Overall, holding the opponent to 9 runs will get you some wins.  Offensively, we were led by 1st baseman Paul Larson with the "three at bat Cycle" 3/3, single, double and triple leading the team with 3 RBI, he had no 4th AB which surely would have been a home run.  Very closely following Paul, was catcher Jim Jozwowski 4/4, scoring 2 and driving in 2 with a triple.  Brett was also a perfect 4/4 with a triple.  Randy Ratcliff had 2 hits, including a double and 2 RBI.  Also with 2 hits were Dan Newman, RBI, Mark Beckner, 2 RBI and Danny Wood, double and an RBI.  Frank Plahutnik and Murray Fairweather both had hits.  Thanks to the umpires and tower operator as well as the scorebook operator Sally Beckner (sans Roxy).
Flames:  Well this game was a real taffy pull! I thought going in that the wind might cause one of those high scoring barnburners. But it wasn’t. It turned out to be a pretty solid defensive game by both teams. Tied at 3 after 3 innings, and then 7 - 3 Heather after 5 innings. The Flames broke out in the 6th, with a max 5 run inning, giving them a 8 - 7 lead. But, Danny Wood’s squad tied it up at 8 in their half of the 6th frame. The Flames added a run in their half of the 7th, taking a slim 1 run lead. Heather then put up a 2 spot in the bottom of the 7th to take the win. I’m sure it was a fun game to watch for the spectators, and an even better game for team Heather Van Peursem squad. But, it was another tough loss for the Flames. We have a bye on Thursday and will try to regroup. We’ll go at it again on Friday morning against the Regency Specialties squad.
Leading the Flames offensively were Don Cole, 2 for 2, with a double and a walk, 1 run, 2 RBI; Mitch Craun, 3 for 4, 1 run; Brian Martin, 2 for 3, 1 run, 1 RBI;  All going 2 for 4  - Greg Roehm, 1 run, 1 RBI; Jim Courtney, 1 RBI; Chuck Frazier, a double, 2 RBI; Bob Lessard, 1 run; Sub Gary Armstrong 2 runs, 1 RBI. Thanks to Gary Armstrong for subbing for us today! Thanks to Cathy Radant for keeping the scorebook!

Fast Signs 22   Flames 12
Fast Signs:  Our Friday Fast Signs game was a going away party for Dick Nunez' in his last game in Grand as he moves on to his next chapter in life. We celebrated with a 19-3 win over Grand Canyon with Dick leading the way with a 4-4 day pushing his average over 700 on the season. Everyone joined in with at least a pair of hits and we had very good team defense. Howard had an awesome game hitting a bases loaded triple in the first as we came out of the gate with a 5 run first and he had 5 RBI and made one of his patented long arm catches. Special thanks to Chip who was a last minute sub and hit 3 line drives as he was a perfect 3-3. Joining Dick and Chip with perfect days were Tom Yurkanas and Tim Brown. Our lineup has been much better with Tim Schiewe back in the lineup and today he and Andy Campbell were 3-4 with a pair of RBI. Rod, Don Trenda, and Dan Davidson were each 2-3. This was our best game of the year for our Fast Signs team and hopefully we can continue to play well. Let's keep Ted and Kris busy!
Canyon State:  We got whooped big time by FastSigns 19-3.  Congratulations to the FastSigns team for great hitting, fielding, and pitching.  We were able to eke out only 9 hits, 2/3’s of which were by Wayne Weidenbach, Gary Kuhlman, and Jeff Tucker who had two hits each.  I accept part of the blame, as thinking it was going to rain and our game would be cancelled, I stayed out late last night partying.  Probably didn’t get home until 8:30 – pm that is.  Chins up, and keep your sense of humor.  We start anew on Tuesday.  Thank you to Brad Johnson for subbing for us again, Linda Jinneman for keeping the scorebook, Danny Wood and Mark Beckner for umpiring, and Randy Van Wagner in the score tower.

Liberty GMC 14  One Stop Tile 13
Liberty: Liberty GMC carried a 12-7 lead into the top of the 7th inning before yielding 6 runs to fall behind 13-12.  After a deep flyout to lead off the bottom half of the inning, Skip Pavitt 2 for 4 on the day doubled and came around to score on a hit from winning pitcher Dennis Karcher 2 for 4 to tie the score.  Sean Baker 2 for 3 with a RBI, intentionally walked prior to the Karcher hit, scored the game winning run off the bat of sub Eric Coudret 2 for 4 on the day.  Before the need for 7th inning heroics, Jeff Heary 2 for 4 led the way with  a bases loaded home run, a double  and 5 RBI.  Sub Howard Sumner 3 for 3 with a sacrifice fly plated 3 runs.  Ronnie Silberman went 4 for 4 with 3 runs scored and 2 RBI. Kevin Katsuki legged out 3 base hits.   John Bertholdy with a RBI and Dean Schoeberl with a double and 3 runs scored each had two hits on the day.  Randy Van Wagner had a hit and made several strong plays at 3rd base to save runs.  Thanks again to Sumner and Coudret for filling in today and contributing to the victory.   Congratulations to One Stop for really bringing it to us today as we escaped with a 14-13 win.
One Stop:  In a seven inning thriller, Liberty GMC pulled out a 14-13 win over One Stop Tile in their last at-bat.  The game started out slow for One Stop Tile as we fell behind 7-0 after only two innings.  Our bats finally came to life in the third inning with four runs; however, Liberty GMC responded with two runs of their own, leaving the score 9-4 in their favor.  One Stop Tile kept batting and battling, but entered the seventh inning trailing 12-7.  One Stop Tile then racked up six runs in the top of the seventh to take the lead 13-12.  In the bottom of the seventh, Liberty GMC was not to be outdone as they rallied with two outs and scored two runs to snatch victory from the hands of defeat.   Outstanding defensive plays for One Stop Tile were turned in by Ray Ray Gibson, (two double plays), Kenny Shick, John Gavazza and David Maligro.  Credit to Liberty GMC for earning the win.  It was a great game that could have gone either way!
Offensively, Kenny Shick smacked a single and a sacrifice fly (RBI) and scored once, Dave Dompier lined three base hits and a score, Jim Opyd ripped two hits (RBI) and scored three times, John Gavazza pounded three hits (2 doubles, 3 RBI) and scored three times, Kenny Krrzeminski was a perfect 4/4 (RBI) at the plate and scored once,  Ray Ray Gibson collected a hit and two sacrifices (2 RBI), David Maligro slugged three hits (double, 2 RBI) and scored once, Todd Fletcher slapped a single and scored once, Laura Fenton banged two hits (RBI) and scored once, Dick Hansen had a hit, and Roger Neumann hammered three hits (RBI) and scored once.

Canyon State:   In a 5-inning game that got extended to 7 innings, the Canyon State eleven were able to extinguish the Flames by a score of 19-12, securing our 2nd place standing with a 5-4 record.  All runs were scored in the first 5 innings, and then the defensive for both teams tightened up, with each team held scoreless in the last 2 innings.  Leading hitters for Canyon State with 4 hits each were sub Brad Johnson, Becky Holliday (who also had several great defensive plays), and Jeff Tucker who had 2 doubles among his 4 hits.  The rest of the team all had 3 hits each except for Steve Willoughby with a single hit but 3 RBI’s. and Kim Macqueen with 2 hits and an RBI.  Gary Kuhlman led the team with 4 RBIs, and Becky had 3 RBI’s.  Thank you to Brad Johnson for subbing for us, Linda Jinneman for keeping the scorebook, Bill Parker and Kim Hurd for umpiring, and Murray Fairweather in the score tower.  We’ll see if Mother Nature allows us to play tomorrow.
Flames:  On a breezy overcast day at the Field of Dreams, the Flames found themselves in an early hole, down 5 - 0 after one, and 9 - 3 after two. The closest we got was 10 - 7 after three. The HVAC guys outscored us over the 4th and 5th innings, 9 - 5. Widening the gap in the game to a seven run lead. Any chance the orange guys had went down in “flames” the last 2 innings, as we threw up double zeros in our half of both the 6th and 7th frames. Defensively we played pretty well. We had a couple of nice running catches by outfielders Mitch Craun and Jim Courtney. The infield was solid. We did not play a bad game, the Canyon State team simply outplayed us in every aspect of the game. Hats off to Paul Jinneman’s squad. They hit the ball hard and played a very well rounded game.
Leading the Flames offensively was Bob Lessard, 3 hits, 2 runs, 2 RBI; Dave Swanson 3 hits, 1 run; Paul Johne, 2 hits, with a triple, 1 run, 2 RBI;  Brian Martin, 2 hits, 1 run, 2 RBI; Greg Roehm, 2 hits, 1 run; Sub Jon Chlebeck, 2 hits, 2 RBI; Jim Courtney, 2 hits, 2 runs, 1 RBI; Mitch Craun, 2 hits, with a triple, 1 run, 1 RBI; Chuck Frazier, 2 hits, a double, 1 run, 1 RBI; Larry Radant, 1 hit, a walk, 1 run, 1 RBI; Don Cole, added a hit, and 1 RBI. Thanks to Jon Chlebeck for subbing for us today! Thanks to Dave Nathe for keeping the scorebook!
Regency Specialties 7   Heather Van Peursem 6
Regency:  Regency Specialties started out hot, scoring 4 in the bottom of the first after holding Heather Van Peursem scoreless.  We scored 3 more in the second and third and after keeping Danny’s guys scoreless for the first 4 innings, led 7-0.  Then our bats cooled off and we let them creep closer by holding us scoreless in 4,5, and 6th.   Our defense held in the 7th to secure a 7-6 win.  A team effort with solid defense being the key and a few key hits were the difference.  Leading hitters were John Hammel(double), Brad Johnson, Bill Parker, and Gary Armstrong 2/3, and Kim Hurd 2/4.  Everyone had at least one hit as our bats are starting to warm up!  Thanks to John Gavazza and Wayne Weidenbach for umping and Murray Fairweather in the tower.
Heather:  In a low scoring game, the Brian Holliday managed Regency Specialties team defeated the Heather Van Peursem team 7-6.
Our lack of timely hits was surpassed only by our sieve for a defense in the first part of the game allowing all 7 runs in the first 3 innings.
Our defense improved markedly holding the Skin Boys to no more runs.  We rallied for 4 in the 5th and 2 in the 6th but could not get the clutch hits to win the game.  Frank Plahutnik was 3/3 with 3 rbi's and Murray Fairweather also added 3 hits.  Dan Newman, John Recob and Jim Jozwowski added 2 hits each.
Almost everyone else had a hit, but it was just not enough as we failed to score when needed.  Thanks to Sally Beckner and sidekick Roxy for keeping our scorebook.

Liberty GMC 26  Heather Van Peursem 15
Liberty:  Liberty GMC trailed Heather Van Peursem 3-1 after one inning and 8-6 after two.  After putting up 5 runs in each of the next two innings and shutting out Heather, Liberty GMC led 16-8 and already had the eventual game winner off the bat of Skip Pavitt.  Pavitt was 5 for 5 on the day with 4 RBI.  Randy Van Wagner 4 for 4 with 2 doubles and a walk and Sean Baker 5 for 5 each plated 6 runs.  Ronnie Silberman 4 for 5 with a double, John Bertholdy  3 for 4 with a walk, and sub Eric Coudret 3 for 4 with a double each added 2 RBI.   Sub Ray Gibson 2 for 5, Jeff Heary 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and a walk, Kevin Katsuki 3 for 5 with a double, and winning pitcher Dennis Karcher 4 for 4 each had a RBI in the contest.  Dean Schoeberl sparkled at shortstop to hold Heather in check  Thanks again to subs Gibson and Coudret for filling in today!
Heather:  In a game in which we gave up runs in every inning including four 5 spots, the Heather Van Peursem eleven lost to the Liberty GMC truck boys 26-15.
When you score 15, normally you have a chance to put up a W, but such was not the case today.  We'll skip the defensive highlights as giving up 26 runs, none come to mind immediately.  Offensively, we were led by the top 5 hitters in our lineup accounting for 13 of the 15 runs via RBI's.  Perfect at the plate was SS Murray Fairweather 3/3, 2 RBI, R Mark Beckner 4/4, 2 RBI, 3rd Brett Frangenberg 4/4, 4 RBI, triple, RCF Dan Newman 3/4, 3 RBI, 2 2B and LF Randy Ratcliff 2/4 and 2 RBI.  RF Bob Tarr was 2/4 and had an RBI.  Everyone had at least 1 hit, but alas, too little too late.  Thanks to CL Eversman for subbing and pitching and having our final RBI.  Many thanks to Sally Beckner for keeping a perfect scorebook each game.
One Stop Tile  16   Flames  15
One Stop:  In another barn-burner, One Stop Tile pulled out a win, 16-15, in the bottom of the seventh against a tough Flames team.  In the first inning, One Stop Tile jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but the Flames team came roaring back with five runs in the second.  One Stop Tile then tied the game in the third at 7-7.  One Stop Tile held the Flames team scoreless in the fourth and scored five runs for a 12-7 lead.  Neither team scored in the fifth.  However, the Flames team racked up four runs in the sixth and four more in the seventh to take a 15-13 lead going into the bottom of the seventh.  Ray Ray Gibson started off the last inning with a solid base hit, David Maligro drilled a single, Laura Fenton ripped a single (RBI), Dick Hansen collected a walk, and Roger Neumann hit into a fielder’s choice (RBI).  Then Kenny Schick collected a walk, followed by Dave Dompier who slugged a long single over the outfielder to drive in the winning run.  Outstanding defensive plays were turned in by David Maligro, Dave Dompier, Kenny Krzeminski and winning pitcher Roger Neumann.  Final score was 16-15!  What a game!
Offensively, Kenny The Razor Shick delivered a perfect day at the plate with three hits (RBI) and two walks and a score, Dandy Dave Dompier ripped three hits (RBI) including the game winner and scored twice, Jungle Jim Opyd smacked a single and grabbed a walk while scoring twice, Big Bad John Gavazza drilled three hits and scored once, Kenny The Polish Vacuum Krzeminski nailed three hits (2 RBI), sub Gary Cool Dude Kuhlman hammered three hits (triple, 4 RBI) and scored twice, Ray Ray Hoot Gibson ripped three hits (2 RBI) and scored twice, David Maui Maligro pounded three hits (2 RBI) and scored once, Laura Stretch Fenton collected a walk and a hit (RBI) and scored twice, Dick Yogi Hansen acquired a walk and a hit and scored twice, and Rockin’ Roger Neumann crushed a single (RBI).  Many thanks to sub Gary Kuhlman, Tom Gruzs and Mike Sterricker for helping One Stop Tile today.
Flames:  This was a back and forth battle, with each team taking turns with slim early leads. With One Stop up 2 - 0 after one, and the Flames up 5  - 4 after two, putting up the max 5 runs in their half of the second inning. After three innings, the score was all tied up at 7 each. One Stop put a 5 spot up in the bottom of the forth, taking a 12 - 7 lead. Both teams scored zero in the fifth, with the score staying 12 - 7 One Stop. The Flames exploded for 4 runs in their half of the sixth, with the Tile guys adding 1 run in the bottom of the inning. Making the score 13 - 11 One Stop Tile going into the final inning. The Flames put another 4 runs on the board, taking a precarious 15 - 13 lead into the home half of the 7th inning. After scoring 2 runs to tie the game, with one out, the One Stop squad had the bases loaded after an intentional walk to Kenny Shick to give the orange guys a play at any base. Up strolled to the dish was Dave Dompier, who with ice in veins delivered the game winning knock. The final was One Stop Tile 16, Flames 15. It was a hard fought game. The Flames played pretty well defensively, having two unconventional double plays. One with outfielder Mitch Craun coming in and catching a sinking line drive, and then throwing out the runner at 2nd base who thought it was a clear hit. The other was with the bags jammed, third baseman Dave Swanson, plucking a shot to third, stepping on third, and firing home to the ever present Kim MacQueen.
Leading the Flames offensively was Chuck Frazier, 4 hits, a double, 1 run, 1 RBI; Dave Swanson 4 hits, 2 runs; Bob Lessard, 3 hits, 1 run, 1 RBI; Sub Kim MacQueen, 3 hits, 2 runs, 2 RBI;  Jim Courtney, 3 hits, 1 run, 2 RBI; Mitch Craun, 2 hits, 2 runs, 4 RBI; Paul Johne, 2 hits, 1 run, 2 RBI; Don Cole, 2 hits, 2 runs, 1 RBI; Brian Martin, 2 hits, 1 run, 1 RBI; Greg Roehm, 2 hits, 2 runs; Larry Radant, 2 hits, 1 RBI. Thanks to Kim MacQueen for subbing for us today! Thanks to Dave Nathe for keeping the scorebook!  Hopefully the rain holds off and we can play on Thursday!
Fast Signs 11   Regency Specialties 5
Fast Signs:   In the first game of the season that we did not need any subs, we emerged with an 11-5 win over Regency Specialties behind the battery of Rod W and Don Trenda and good team defense. Rod notched a couple strikeouts while Don was cat like catching a foul pop and holding a good hitting Regency tean to a mere 5 runs.. The defensive player of the game though was Wes Green who was a rover all over, seemingly always in the right spot to make a play. Additionally, Howard showed good range in running down a couple fly balls and Tom Yurkanas was involved in a number of outs from his 3B position. The big hit of the game was a first inning bases loaded double by Tim Brown good for 3 RBI and a 5-0 first inning lead. While Tim's hit was the big one on the scoreboard, Wes(2-3) put one out of the park hitting a solo shot over the RF wall. Tim Schiewe stayed hot since his return with a 3 for 3 game. Dick Nunez, Jon Chlebeck, and Dan Davidson(2RBI) tacked on a pair of hits. Thanks to Paul Johne and Roger Neumann for doing a fine job umpiring and to Mitch Craun in the tower.
Regency:  In a low scoring game today, Regency Specialties had a tough time hitting, losing to Fast Signs by a score of 11-5. Leading hitters were John Hammel 3/3(triple), Fred Jensen 3/4, Brad Johnson 2/4, and Dave Anthony 2/3.  Weather permitting we will try and get the bats going Thursday.

Heather Van Peursem 12  Flames 4
Heather:  On a very nice morning at the Grand Field of Dreams, the Heather Van Peursem eleven ran their win streak to 3 in a row as they beat The Flames.
We put up 5 scoreless innings on the Flames, giving up a solo blast and a 3 spot in the other 2 innings,
while scoring 2 runs in each of the last 6 innings to win 12-4.
We had a nice defensive game with great catches by all 4 outfielders and a spectacular double play in the 6th by 3rd baseman Brett Frangenberg to limit the damage in the 3 run inning.  In the bottom of the 7th, RCF Dan Newman threw a bullet to the Pitcher who in turn fired to C Bob Tarr for the 1st out and the rally was quelled.  Offensively, we were led by Frank Plahutnik 4/4 with a RBI, Murray Fairweather 2/2, 2 runs, 2 RBI with a double and RF Jim Jozwowski 2/2 with 2 walks and 2 RBI.  R Mark Beckner 3/4, Brett was 2/3 with 2 RBI, LCF John Recob 2/4, Dan Newman, a double and 2 RBI's and Paul Larson each had 2 hits and Paul had 2 RBI.  With a hit each were LF Randy Ratcliff, Bob and Pitcher Wood who added an RBI triple.  The bottom 4 in the lineup had 6 (half) of the RBI's in a 22 hit attack.
Our appreciation goes to Tim Schiewe, Skip Pavit and Commissioner Rick Armentano for umpiring and Mark Jessen in the tower.  Another great job of pencil-whipping our scorebook and keeping the players' minds on the game was Sally Beckner, with help from her dog Roxy.
Flames:  Death by a thousand paper cuts. That’s what this game was like. We never gave up a big inning to Heather Van Peursem. After holding them to  zero in the first, we kept them to 2 run innings. But it was 2 runs 6 innings in a row! Danny “Don’t call me WIlbur” Wood, threw strikes, kept the Flames hitters a little off balance, and let the orange men hit right into the Heather defense. Other than a solo home run over the left field fence by Chuck Frazier in the 4th. And a 3 run mini outburst in the 6th, the Flames bats were silent. Our outfield played very well on D, with multiple running grabs by Jim Courtney, and a really nice grab by Brian Martin running in. With the normal solid defense by Mitch Craun and Bob Lessard. Don Cole had a stellar backhand play on a ball hit up the middle.
Leading the Flames offensively was Chuck Frazier, 3 hits, 1 run, 1 RBI; and an over the fence homer; Paul Johne, 3 hits, 1 run; Greg Roehm, 2 hits, 1 run; Brian Martin, 2 hits; Don Cole, 2 hits with a double; Jim Courtney, 1 hit, 1 run, 1 RBI; Mitch Craun 1 hit, with a double, 2 RBI. Everyone else had 1 hit or none. Thanks to Cathy Radant for keeping the scorebook! Not much lead was used today. The pencil still had a point on it! We look forward to trying to redeem ourselves vs the One Stop squad next Tuesday.
One Stop Tile  25  Canyon State 24
One Stop:  What a wild, windy and entertaining game!  If you like lots of scoring, this game was for you!  Both One Stop Tile and Canyon State offenses seemingly could not be stopped as the game was close and high-scoring throughout.  One Stop Tile put up five, five run innings and Canyon State put up four, five run innings.  Going into the top of the seventh, Canyon State scored five runs and took the lead 24-20.  However, One Stop Tile kept playing and hoping for the best.  In One Stop Tile’s bottom of the seventh, sub David Power led off with a single, followed by a single from Laura Fenton, a walk by Dick Hansen, a single by Kenny Shick, a bases-clearing triple by Dave Dompier, a walk by Jim Opyd, and a game-winning single by John Gavazza - all adding up to the five runs needed to secure the win!   It was a classic case of whichever team was on offense last won the game.  Credit to Canyon State for playing a challenging and exciting  game!
Defensively, sub David Power, Dave Dompier, sub Tim Brown and John Gavazza made excellent plays.
Offensively, Kenny Schick was on fire with five base hits (triple, double, SIX RBI) and five runs scored, Dave Dompier slugged four hits (clutch triple, double, FIVE RBI, and two runs scored including the winning run, Jim Opyd was perfect at the plate with three hits (THREE RBI) and two walks plus two runs scored, John Gavazza ripped four base hits (TWO RBI) and scored once, Kenny Krzeminski smashed two hits (TWO RBI) and scored once, sub Tim Brown collected two hits (double, RBI) a walk and scored once, Ray Ray Gibson banged two hits (RBI) and scored once, sub David Power pounded three hits (RBI) and scored three times, Laura Fenton was perfect at the plate with four hits (RBI) and three runs scored, Dick Hansen slapped a single and garnered three walks (RBI) and scored four times, and winning pitcher Roger Neumann helped his own cause with two hits (RBI) and scored twice.  Thanks to subs David Power and Tim Brown, Tom Gruzs on the scorebook, and Mike Sterricker as first base coach for helping us out today.  It was definitely a team win!
Canyon State:  Those fans who paid to see a high scoring game with lots of hits got their money’s worth this morning, as One Stop Tile outlasted Canyon State by a score of 25-24.  The only pitchers’ duel was with the wind which led to Canyon State batters receiving 7 walks, 4 to sub Dave Nathe (the wind picked up when Dave was at bat 😊).  We hit quite well with 27 hits in 40 official at bats (.675).  Ted Schneider went 5 for 5 batting behind Dave, with 5 RBI’s.  Bruce Loew had 4 hits with a triple and home run, and Kim Macqueen went 4 for 4 with a triple.  Steve Willoughby and Paul Jinneman had 3 hits each.  Dave had a double in his lone official at bat, as did Gary Kuhlman and Jeff Tucker.  It was a well fought game with One Stop playing just slightly better than us.  A special thanks to Greg “Double Duty” Martin for all his substitute running.  And thank you to Dave Nathe for subbing for us, our injured Allen Bellew for coaching first base, Troy Macqueen for sending 24 runners around third to home, Linda Jinneman for keeping the scorebook, Don Trenda and Jeff Heary for umpiring, and Randy Van Wagner in the score tower.  There’s better weather and games ahead.
Liberty GMC  14   Fast Signs 11
Liberty:  Liberty GMC and Fast Signs were knotted at 7 heading into the 6th inning.  Liberty GMC scored 5 runs in the top of the 6th and 2 more in the 7th and withstood a 7th inning rally by Fast Signs to emerge with a 14-11 victory.  Liberty was led by Jeff Heary 5 for 5 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI.  Sean Baker 2 for 4 with a triple plated 3 runs.  Randy Van Wagner 3 for 4 with a double knocked in 2 runs and made what might have been the game saving catch to end the game.  Sub Ray Gibson went 3 for 5 on the day with a double and 2 RBI.  Ronnie Silberman 4 for 5, sub David Power with a hit, and Kevit Katsuki 2 for 3 with a walk each added a RBI.  Dean Schoeberl with 2 doubles, sub Bob Tarr, John Bertholdy, and winning pitcher Dennis Karcher each finished with 2 hits on the day.  Thanks again to subs Power, Gibson, and Tarr for filling in today!
Fast Signs:  Fast Signs played one of their best defensive games of the season.  Unfortunately, it came against the best hitting team in the league.  We were able to hold them to 14 runs but were unable to match them in the scoring department. Their defense made the plays when they needed them as we left the bases loaded a couple of times with one out. Dick Nunez was 3 for 4 as were Wes Green and Dan Davidson. Wes had triple, 3 runs scored and an RBI in his best game as a rookie. He also seems to be getting comfortable with his new position of Rover. He was fielding liners and grounders all over the field. That defense seemed to be contagious as Dan made several nice scoops on hard hit balls ending some innings. Tim Schiewe is slowly working his way back from injury with a couple of hits and a walk. Tim Brown,  Andy Campbell, sub Greg Martin, and Tom Yurkunas also had 2 hits. Greg contributed 3 RBIs and executed the "trip and fall" trick over the commitment line perfectly drawing the dead ball illegal tag rule into play. All in all, things might be looking up for us the remainder of the season.

Heather Van Peursem 14  One Stop Tile 12
Heather:  On a beautiful day for a ball game, Heather Van Peursem outlasted the One Stop Tile boys 14-12 in a hard fought game to post a 2 game winning streak.  One Stop managed 3, 4 and 5 run innings to tally their 12 runs as HPV threw 4 scoreless innings with some solid defense against them.   We scored 14 runs in 4 frames with a single run in the first, then two 5 run innings, closing it out with 3 in the 6th to put the game out of reach.
We had some nice defense by LF Randy Ratcliff, LCF John Recob, RCF Dan Newman all catching fly balls while on the run and great plays at home plate as C Bob Tarr fielded 2 one hop throws to the plate to record two outs.  SS Murray Fairweather and R Mark Beckner made great stops and threw strikes to 1B Paul Larson.  Offensively, we had 4 guys perfect at the plate, 3B Brett Frangenberg, John Recob, RF Jim Jozwowski and P Danny Wood.  Brett was 3/3 plating 3 runs and a triple driving in 3 runs, John scored 2 and drove in 2, Jim had an RBI and Danny scored a run.  Not too far behind the perfect hitters were Randy 3/4 with 2 RBI and Murray 3/4 and scored 3 runs.  Following with 2 hits each were Mark, 2 runs, Bob with 2 RBI, 2B Frank Plahutnik with 2 RBI.  Paul had a big 2 out hit that drove in a run in one of our 5 runs in the 5th.  A big thank you to umpires Tom Gruzs and John Nelson and to Kevin "double K" Katsuki in the Tower.  As always, we appreciate Sally Beckner for keeping our scorebook.
One Stop:   In a tight game that was 6-5 through four innings, Heather Van Peursem pulled away with five runs in the fifth for a 11-5 lead over One Stop Tile.  Both teams score three runs in the sixth making the score 14-8 for Heather Van Peursem.  One Stop Tile rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh to no avail as Heather Van Peursem pulled out the 14-12 win.  One Stop Tile stranded 19 runners total, including twice with the bases loaded, which makes it difficult to win the close ones.  Kenny Shick made a fantastic diving catch of a short fly ball to highlight our defense today.
Offensively, lead-off Kenny Shick hammered four hits (triple) and scored twice plus a walk, sub Gary Kuhlman lined two base hits (double) and scored twice, Jim Opyd collected a hit and a walk and scored once, John Gavazza slammed two hits and scored once, Kenny Krzeminski pounded three hits and grabbed a walk, David Maligro ripped a hit and scored once, Ray Gibson slammed two hits, Dave Dompier slugged three hits (double) and scored once, Laura Fenton cracked three hits and scored once, Dick Hansen garnered two walks and scored twice, and Roger Neumann racked up two hits and scored once.  Thank you to Mike Sterricker on the scorebook and sub Gary Kuhlman in right field,
Canyon State 19  Fast Signs 9
Canyon State:  After getting mercied in our first game against Fast Signs, the Canyon State eleven played an outstanding team game today to outscore Fast Signs 19-9 this time around.  Our defense was tight all around, with Greg Martin and Gary Kuhlman making great catches in the outfield, and Steve Willoughby snagging a hardline drive at third base.  After Greg’s great catch, he relayed the ball to Bruce Lowe who then threw to Jeff “Stretch” Tucker at first base for an inning ending double play.  After Gary’s catch, he relayed the ball to Jeff who then threw out the runner at home.  Excellent D helps a lot.  We amassed 29 hits with Becky Holliday and Greg Martin (1 double) leading the charge with 4 hits each.  Sub Dave Nathe (1 walk), Ted Schneider (1 walk), and Steve Willoughby (1 triple) contributed 3 hits each.  Kim Macqueen took a bad hop ball off the wrist and chin but hung in there to get the final out to close out the game.  Becky led the team with 4 RBIs with Greg and Dave contributed 3 RBIs each.  Excellent hitting helps too.  Thank you to Dave Nathe for subbing for us, our injured Allen Bellew for coaching first base, Linda Jinneman for keeping the scorebook, Rick Armentano and Chuck Frazier for umpiring, Greg Roehm in the score tower, and last but certainly not least, Ted Schneider for providing cupcakes to celebrate some semi old guy’s 70th birthday.
Fast Signs:  Canyon State tripped up our Fast Signs team 19-9 on another beautiful Arizona day .The game was a game of pitching and defense for the first 4 innings with Canyon leading 3-2. Suddenly the Canyon bats erupted and scored the maximum the next 3 innings. Defensively, Tom Yurkanas had a lot of nice plays at 3B and Wes Green was outstanding at rover while Tim Schiewe(welcome back) and sub Eric Courdret made shoestring catches in the outfield. However, we had trouble with routine plays and mix in a couple walks and that spells big innings for the opposition. Also, Canyon impressively cut down 3 of our runners at home plate. Dan Davidson with 2-2 and a wank and Dick Nunez with 3 hits led an offense where everyone had at least one hit.
Flames 17  Regency Specialities 11
Flames:   The  Flames played another solid all around game at the Field of Dreams versus a very good Regency Specialties team. Up 12 - 4 after 5 innings, the Orange squad coasted to a 17 - 11 final. The outfield of Brian Martin, Mitch Craun, Jim Courtney and Bob Lessard all played outstanding today. Each making difficult catches at critical times. The infield of Dave Swanson, Greg Roehm, Don Cole, Paul Johne and Chuck Fraizer, not to be outdone, made their share of tough plays as well. One inning pitcher Larry Radant was a one man show. Making three straight plays for all three outs! It’s sure a lot easier to hit when defensively, you are throwing the leather around in the field! Nice job guys!
Leading the Flames offensively was Sub Kevin Katsuki, 3 for 3 with a walk, 2 runs, 2 triples, and a double, and 5 RBI; Dave Swanson, 4 for 4, with a double, 2 Runs, 1 RBI; Don Cole, 4 for 4, 2 Runs, 2 RBI; Paul Johne, 3 for 4, 2 runs, 2 RBI; Jim Courtney, 3 for 4, 1 run, 1 RBI; Bob Lessard 2 hits, 2 Runs, 2 RBI; Greg Roehm, 2 hits, 2 runs; Mitch Craun 2 hits, 1 run, 2 RBI; Chuck Frazier, 2 hits, 1 run, 1 RBI; Larry Radant 2 hits, 2 runs, 1 RBI; Thanks to Cathy Radant for keeping the scorebook! Thanks also to Kevin Katsuki for subbing for us!
Regency:  After a fair start in the first inning, Regency Specialties was never able to keep up with Dave Swanson’s Flames, losing by a final score of 17-11.  Leading hitters for Regency were Brad Johnson, David Power and Dave Anthony going 4/4.  Bill Parker was 3/4 and Kim Hurd(double) John Hammel(double), Ted Grove and sub Glen Turner were 2/4.  Thanks Glen Turner for subbing.  We will be back at it Friday morning.

Fast Signs 22   Flames 12
Fast Signs:  If you fall off your horse, get back on. We were thrown off the horse Thursday but our Fast Signs squad bounced back with a much needed 22-12 win over the Flames today behind 34 hits and a respectable defense. Don Trenda(2-4) pitched well in the win. Offensively the stars were numerous as everyone had at least two hits. It was tough to top Ted Schneiders day as he was 5-5, 5 RBI, but Dan Davidson 3 for 3 with a walk Dave Powers 4-4 were also perfect on the day. Wes Green and Andy Campbell were each clutch with 3 RBI with the former having a booming triple, Jon Chlebeck recorded a couple of out behind the plate on defense getting us out of innings and he added 3 knocks, Meanwhile leadoff hitter Dick Nunez played his role perfectly setting the table with a 4-5 day. Dave Nathe was our rock in the OF and while the Flames were reluctant to give him anything good, he still a couple hits and RBI's. Other contributors were Howard3-5, and Tim Brown 2-4. Thanks to umpires Danny Wood and Chip for taking the time to talk through a confusing and controversial play. Reliable veteran coach was up to all the action on the bases and he even stole a run or two for us, Kris, per usual was sharp with the pencil on a day where it was particularly challenging due to all the action.

Flames:  It was a very nice morning at the Field of Dreams! Everyone was happy to see the wind subside, after very breezy conditions on Thursday had fly balls blowing all around. The Flames were looking to keep their hot bats going! But, it was not to be the case. However, the Orange men did stay toe to toe through 5 innings with the very tough Fast Signs team, with the score at 15 - 12 and Fast Signs leading going into the 6th. Fast signs added a run in the 6th, and 6 runs in the 7th, flip\flopping the Flames in the 7th inning. The Flames went scoreless their final two frames, making the final score 22 - 12 Fast Signs. The Flames uncharacteristically struggled defensively today. We have played pretty tight the first 5 games. We'll put this one behind us and come out Tuesday against Canyon State!
Leading the Flames offensively was Paul Johne, 4 for 4, 1 run, 1 RBI, with a triple; Bob Lessard 3 for 4, 1 Run, 1 RBI; Brian Martin 2 hits, 1 run, 2 RBI; Mitch Craun 2 hits, with a double, 2 runs, 3 RBI; Chuck Frazier, 2 hits, 1 run; Sub Paul Larson, 2 hits, 2 runs, 1 RBI; Sub Dan Newman, 2 hits, with a double, 1 run scored; Greg Roehm, 2 hits, 1 run; Larry Radant 2 hits, 1 run, 2 RBI; Dave Swanson 2 hits, 1 Run, 1 RBI; Don Cole, 2 hits, 1 RBI. Thanks to Cathy Radant for keeping the scorebook! Thanks also to Paul Larson and Dan Newman (last minute!!) for subbing for us!

Regency Specialties 13  One Stop Tile  7
Regency:   A very windy morning for the wakeup game at the Field of Dreams.  Between the wind howling and the dust blowing in everyone’s eyes, it was a challenge for both teams.  Regency Specialties, with a 5 spot in the bottom of the first took a quick lead, but Dick Hansen’s One Stop guys clawed back to lead after 3 innings.  Good defense in the challenging conditions held them scoreless for the rest of the game while Regency scored 7 runs for a 13-7 final.  Leading hitters were David Power(double) and Gary Armstrong both 3/3.  Bill Parker was 2/2 with a SAC fly.  Fred Jensen(double) was 3/4, Brad Johnson(double), Dave Anthony, sub Eric Coudret, and John Hammel(double) were all 2/3. Kim Hurd was 2/4.  Ted Grove and Chip Stanczak each added a hit and considering the conditions what a great defensive performance by our whole team!  Thanks to Jeff Tucker and Steve Willoughby for umpiring and as always Mark “first game” Jessen in the tower.
One Stop:  Regency Specialties scored five runs in the first inning and never looked back on a windy, dusty day at the ballpark.  Every fly ball was an adventure!   One Stop Tile got hot in the third inning and scored five runs, but we couldn’t maintain that momentum - went scoreless in the last four innings.  Regency Specialties played a good game and earned the win.
Offensively, Dave Dompier had a hit and scored once, Kenny Shick had a hit and scored once, John Gavazza had a hit (RBI) and a walk and scored once, Jim Opyd ripped a double and a single (2 RBI) and scored once, Ray Gibson had a hit and a score, Kenny Krzeminski collected a hit and a walk and scored once, Todd Fletcher nailed two singles (RBI), David Maligro connected on a single (2 RBI) and got a walk, Dick Hansen had an RBI, sub C.L. Eversman drilled a single, and Roger Neumann collected two walks and scored once.  Thanks to C.L. Eversman for helping us today.
Liberty GMC  17  Canyon State  6
Liberty: Liberty GMC yielded 3 runs in the top of the 1st inning and clung to a 7-6 lead heading to the bottom of 5th inning before blowing the game open with 5 runs in both the 5th and 6th inning to emerge with a 17-6 win.  Kevin Katsuki 3 for 4 with a triple and Randy Van Wagner 2 for 2 with a sacrifice fly and a double each plated 4 runs.  Sub David Power 2 for 2 with a triple and a walk added 3 RBI.  Curtis Rhoades 2 for 3 finished the day with 2 RBI.  Sub Brad Johnson 2 for 4 with 3 runs scored, Dennis Vance 2 for 4, Jeff Heary 4 for 4 with a double and 4 runs scored, and Sean Baker each had a RBI to close out the scoring.  Ronnie Silberman had another strong game going 3 for 4 with a double.  Sub Glenn Turner and sub winning pitcher Rick Armentano each were 2 for 3 with a run scored.  Thanks again to Armentano, Turner, Johnson and Power for subbing today!
Canyon State:  Liberty GMC played a great game running over Canyon State by a score of 17-6 on a very windy morning.  If only …., and if only …, and if only, and if ….  When you get beat by 11 runs, you can’t blame it all on the if onlys.  Credit goes to the GMC eleven.  We played them close all the way to the bottom of the fifth with the score tied at 7-7, but a close call at third went the other way and took a run off the scoreboard too.  Liberty GMC pulled away, scoring 5 runs each in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings, while holding us to only two runs in the last 3 innings.   Each outfielder did a tremendous job handling windblown balls with great catches made by Greg Martin, Wayne Weidenbach, sub Dave Nathe, and Gary “Ichiro” Kuhlman who from right field threw a runner out at 2nd by a wide margin.  Greg was perfect at the plate (3 for 3), Wayne Weidenbach and Bruce Lowe also contributed three hits each, with Gary having a pair of hits.  Everyone else had a hit except Steve Willoughby and that Jinneman character.  Thank you to Dave Nathe for helping as a sub, Kenny Shick in the score tower, and to Linda Jinneman for keeping the scorebook.  We’ll get ‘em next time!
Heather Van Peursem 24   Fast Signs 14
Heather:  On the windiest day of the Winter White League season, Heather Van Peursem scored our first victory of the session over FastSigns 24-14.  FastSigns held a 13-9 lead through 4 innings, but our bats came alive as we outscored the Signs Boys 15-1, scoring 9 runs in the top of the 7th for a flip-flop and cruising to the victory.  Defense for both teams was a real experience with the gusty winds, but it turned out to be a great game for the HVP Realtors.
We played with our full drafted roster with no subs, which bodes well for our future.
Offensively, we had four players going 5/5 including 1B Paul Larson, who had 3 runs, 5 RBI and a double, 3B Brett Frangenberg 2 runs and a ribbie, C Bob Tarr 3 runs, 3 batted in with 2 doubles and RF Jim Jozwowski, 3 runs and 2 RBI.  LCF John Recob added a 4/5 day with 2 runs and an RBI.  Stalwarts R Mark Beckner and SS Murray "Stormy" Fairweather were both 3/5 with 4 RBI's each.  2B Frank "the Tank" Plahutnik and pitcher Danny Wood both had 3 hits and each had a double with runs scored and runs batted in.  LF Randy Ratcliff and RCF Dan Newman smashed 2 hits as every player had at least 2 hits, a run and an RBI, both Randy and Dan caught fly balls in the 7th to secure the victory.  As a team we had 40 hits in 53 AB's for a boisterous .755 BA.
Thanks to Bruce Lowe and Gary Kuhlman for umpiring and Kevin  "double K" Katsuki for working the Tower.
Thank you Sally Beckner for keeping our scorebook so that we could round the bases in comfort, sorry you had to stop and sharpen the pencil.
A special note to opposing manager Rod "Hall of Fame" Wilterdink, Get Well Soon!
Fast Signs:  Our Fast Signs group has been scoring enough runs, double digits every game, but has allowed too many runs to win and today was no exception as Danny Wood's Heather VP team defeated us 24-14. It was a back and forth game with HVP leading 15 - 14 after 6 innings before the visitors "blew" us off the field with a 9 run 7th inning explosion. Along with good hitting, the blustery wind aided their cause.
We scored in double digits for the 5th time in 5 games rapping out 27 hits led by perfect efforts by sub Rich Armentano and Jon Chlebeck with the latter hitting the ball hard in all four at bats including a booming triple. Andy Campbell was a huge contributor going 4-5 and Dan Davidson was swinging a good bat(3-4).Tim Brown, Wes Green, Howard Sumner, sub Curt Rhoades, and Don Trenda had a pair of hits while Dick Nunez was 3-5 from the leadoff spot. Sub Ted Schneider added a hit to round out the offense.

Regency Specialties 16   Heather Van Peursem 6
Regency:  Another beautiful day at the ballpark pitting Regency Specialties against Heather Van Peursem for the middle game of the day.  Both teams scored 3 in the first inning, then Heather pulled ahead, leading 6-3 after 3 innings.  The Regency gang came back to score 13 runs over the next 4 innings, keeping Mike Wunsch busy at 3rd base, while holding Heather scoreless, with the final being 16-6 in a flip-flop in the 7th.  Regency had 25 hits led by John Hammel 4/4, Fred Jensen, Brad Johnson(2 doubles), Bill Parker(double), and Chip Stanczak all 3/4.  Ted Grove was 2/3 with a SAC fly, and sub Eric Coudret was 2/3 with a base on balls.  David Power was 2/4(double).  Gary Armstrong was 1/2 with a walk, and speedy Kim Hurd had a double.  Dave Anthony had a solid game pitching.  Thanks to Eric Coudret for subbing, and umpires Curtis Rhoades and Jeff Heary as well as Dean Schoeberl in the tower.
Heather:  Heather Van Peursem held a 6-3 lead through the first 3 innings, but was then outscored by Regency Specialties 13-0, giving the Skin Dr's. a 16-6 win.
We had a few nice defensive plays, our LF Randy Ratcliff caught two line drives as did RCF Dan Newman and C Paul Larson made a put out at home on a foul ball.  Offensively, 1st baseman Brett Frangenberg was 4/4, Randy Ratcliff 2/3 with 2 RBI's and Frank Plahutnik 1/3 with 2 RBI's, Murray Fairweather added an RBI as did sub Ron Silberman.  Pitcher John Recob was 2/3 and scored 2 runs as did Dan Newman 2/3 with a run.  In his first start at 3B, Jim Jozwowski added 2 hits and scored a run.  18 hits, but scoring only 6 runs and putting up 4 scoreless innings in your last 4 AB's will not get you too many wins.
Thanks to Curt Rhoades and Jeff Heary for umpiring and John Bertholdy in the Tower.  As always, Sally Beckner kept our scorebook and we appreciate it.
Liberty GMC 19  One Stop Tile 13
Liberty: Liberty GMC fell behind One Stop Tile 4-2 in the 1st inning before scoring 5 runs in the top of the 2nd inning to grab a lead that the team would never relinquish en route to a 19-13 victory.  Liberty GMC was led by Dennis Vance 4 for 5 with a double and 6 RBI.  Ronnie Silberman 5 for 5 with a double and triple, Jeff Heary 2 for 3 with a double and sacrifice fly, Curtis Rhoades 3 for 4 with a double, and sub Gary Kuhlman with a hit and sacrifice fly each plated 2 runs.  Dean Schoeberl 4 for 5 with 4 runs scored, Kevin Katsuki with a hit and walk, sub pitcher Dave Anthony with 2 hits and a sacrifice fly, Sean Baker 3 for 4, and sub Eric Coudret 3 for 4 each added a RBI.
One Stop:.  One Stop Tile took an early 4-2 lead, but couldn’t keep up after that as undefeated Liberty GMC pulled way for a 19-13 flip-flop win.  Credit to Liberty GMC for playing batting and fielding well.  Defensively, nice plays for One Stop Tile were turned in by Dave Dompier, RayRay Gibson, Kenny Shick and John Gavazza.
Offensively, Dave Dompier ripped a hit and scored once, Kenny Shick cracked three hits and scored twice, John Gavazza smashed a double (RBI) and a single and scored twice, sub Tim Brown collected a sac fly (RBI), single and walk and scored twice, Jim Opyd drilled three hits (2 RBI) and scored twice, Ray Ray Gibson pounded two hits (RBI) and grabbed a walk and scored once, Kenny Krzeminski slugged two hits and a sac fly (3 RBI) and scored once, Todd Fletcher collected a base hit (RBI) and a walk and scored twice, David Maligro nailed two hits (2 RBI), Dick Hansen smacked two hits (RBI),and Roger Neumann gathered a hit (RBI) and a walk.  Thanks to subs Tim Brown at first base and Becky Holliday on the scorebook.
Flames 21   Canyon State 14
Flames: It’s hard to get much better than this at the Field of Dreams! It was a beautiful afternoon, and the Flames kept their hot bats going! It started out as a back and forth event between the Flames and Canyon State HVAC squad, tied 5 - 5 after 2 innings. The Flames broke it open scoring 4 runs in the top of the third, while holding the HVAC team to zero in their half of the third. The Flames went out and scored 5 in the 4th, 4 in the 5th, and 3 in the 7th, forcing a flip\flop in the 7th, having a 10 run lead. Canyon State added 3 runs in their half of the 7th, making it a 21 -14 final score. The Orange men had another solid day defensively. Both the infield and outfield made all the plays hit to them. That said…. Greg Roehm was outstanding at shortstop for us. I really don’t have the superlatives to adequately describe his defensive play today! He was everywhere! Offensively, when you knock out 34 hits, have your 3-4-5-6 hitters go 16 for 19, hit .694 as a team, and have 9 extra base hits (3 doubles, 4 triples, and 2 homers) a lot of good things are happening. It was a solid win over a very good Canyon State team!
Leading the Flames offensively, hitting for the cycle, was Chuck Frazier, going 4 for 5, 3 runs scored, a double, a triple, and a home run, with 7 RBI. Have a game Chuck! Going 5 for 5 was Jim Courtney with 4 runs scored; Larry Radant 4 for 4, 2 runs, 2 RBI; Mitch Craun 4 for 5, 3 runs, 1 RBI; Bob Lessard 3 for 4, a triple, 1 Run, 2 RBI; Paul Johne, 3 for 5, 2 runs, 3 RBI, a triple, a home run; Sub Chip Stanczak, 3 for 4, 2 runs, 2 RBI, a double, a triple; Brian Martin 2 hits with a double, 1 run, 2 RBI; Dave Swanson 2 hits, 2 Runs, 1 RBI; Don Cole, 2 hits; Greg Roehm, 2 hits, 1 run, 1 RBI. Thanks to Dave Nathe for keeping the scorebook! Thanks to Chip Stanczak for subbing for us!
Canyon State:  In a late last game of the day, the Dave Swanson led Flames blistered the Canyon State eleven 21-14, pulling ahead from a 5-5 tie ball game at the end of the second inning and never looking back.   The Flames did a better job of hitting the ball in the sun than we did, and frankly in most all other aspects of the game too.  Congratulations to new coach Dave and his team on the win.   Leading hitters for Canyon State were Wayne Weidenbach (4 for 4 with a walk) and Paul Jinneman (4 for 4).  Contributing 3 hits each were Murray Fairweather who did an admirable job at short subbing for Bruce Lowe, and Steve Willoughby, one of which was a triple to draw us 2 runs closer in the bottom of the 7th.  Jeff Tucker had 2 hits including a double, as did Becky Holliday (with a walk too), Allen Bellew, and Gary Kuhlman.  Greg Martin contributed a hit and a walk, and Ted Schneider and Kim Macqueen contributed a hit each.  Thank you to Murray Fairweather for playing admirably during his 2nd game on a warm afternoon, Mark Beckner and Billy Parker for a well-umped game, Randy Ratcliff in the score tower, and Linda Jinneman for keeping the scorebook.  We’re psyching ourselves up to give Liberty GMC  a run for their money on Thursday.

Canyon State 18  Heather Van Peursem 11
Canyon:  The Canyon State eleven put together another great team effort, taking a victory over Heather Van Peursem by a score of 18-11.  Everyone had at least one hit, the outfield made several great catches, and the infield turned several double plays.  As usual, Ted Schneider fielded the pitching spot well, participating in an important inning ending double play.  Perfect at the plate (4 for 4) were Ted and Becky Holliday, and that Jinneman guy who went 1 for 1 with 2 walks and a sac fly.  Bruce Lowe and Gary Kuhlman contributed 3 hits each including 1 triple each.  Wayne Weidenbach (1 triple), Jeff Tucker (1 double), Steve Willougby (plus 1 walk), and Kim Macqueen had 2 hits each.  Allen Bellew, after starting the season 11 for 11, breaking the major league record of 8 straight hits to start a season, also had 2 hits.   Bruce and Allen led the team with 4 RBIs each.  Thanks to Chip Stanczak and Curt Rhoades for a well umpired game, Randy Van Wagner in the score tower, Troy Macqueen for coaching 3rd base and keeping the base runners on their toes, and Kim Macqueen for the musical entertainment, even the O’ Canada anthem (congratulations on the victory).
Heather:  In a hard fought Friday game, Heather Van Peursem fell to Canyon State HVAC 18-11.
We showed signs of better hitting as were were led by Bob Tarr 4/4 with a triple and 2 RBI, John Recob 3/3 with a run and a walk, followed by leadoff hitter Murray Fairweather 3/4 with an RBI double and Mark Beckner 3/4 with a 3 RBI triple.  Close behind was Brett Frangenberg 2/3 with 2 RBI, Randy Ratcliff 3/4 and a double and Frank Plahutnik had 2 hits with a double.  Everyone else contributed 2 hits and Subs Eric "speed never takes a day off" Coudret with 2 hits, 2 RBI and a triple.  Our other sub, 1st baseman CL Eversman added two hits.  We had 28 hits for a .683 average, but started the game slowly as CS scored in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd innings to put us in a big hole 14-3, from which we never recovered.  Many thanks to Curt "the Referee" Rhoades and Chip "deal me in" Stanzak for umpiring and Randy Van "Winkle" Wagner in the Tower.  Also, a big thank you to Sally Beckner for keeping our scorebook as she was voted "scorekeeper of the game" by our thankful team.  Also, thanks to Murray and Paul for cleaning the dugout post game so that the Blue League could get their practice started on time.  We are looking for our first win on Tuesday at 1:30.

Regency Specialties 12   Fast Signs 11
Regency:  Another beautiful day at the ballpark as Regency Specialties came from behind in an exciting game to notch the win over Fast Signs.  After falling behind 6-2 after the third inning, we scored 5 in the 4th to take the lead.  Rod’s guys kept chipping away and we found ourselves down one going into the 7th.  After holding Fast Signs scoreless in the top of the inning two solid singles by David Power and Dave Anthony were followed by a game winning triple by our super sub Eric Coudret, scoring both Power and Brad Johnson(pinch running).  The final score was 12-11.  Leading hitters were Kim Hurd(double) and David Power both a perfect 4/4, John Hammel and Chip Stanczak 2/3, Fred Jensen, Ted Grove, Brad Johnson, Dave Anthony and Eric Coudret all going 2/4.  Gary Armstrong was 1/2 with a walk.  Everyone had at least a hit. Our defense was much improved today with a solid game turned in by everyone, including a highlight reel catch by Chip Stanczak at rover.  Dave Anthony pitched a great game, retiring the side defensively one inning with 3 balls hit back to the mound.  Thanks to Eric Coudret for the great job subbing, and Bobby Lessard and John Gavazza for umping.
Fast Signs:  Fast Signs and Regency Specialties hooked up in a back and forth game with the Regency crew pulling finishing on top 12-11. We scored a pair of runs in each of the first 3 innings to take a 6-0 lead. But,  the Specialists scored 2 in bottom of the 3rd and then the 5 run maximum in the fourth inning to push ahead 7-6 and it was a battle to the finish line from there. With our Fast Signs leading 11- 10 going into the 7th, we went scoreless in the top and the home team put two on the board in the bottom half for the win. Tim Brown had an interesting stat line as got on base all 4 times with a hit and 3 walks, the only walks our team received.  Dick Nunez and Wes Green(3 RBI) were 3-4 and sub Dean Schoeberl has 2 hits in 3 tries. Defensively we turned a pair of double plays in the first 2 innings on popups to the pitcher(Rod)and Howard(RC) doubling a guy off 2B each time. Wes made an off balance back hand grab of a soft liner for another highlight. Thanks to Lee Visker for keeping a great book this week and  a nice job umpiring by Bob Lessard and Mr Gavazza.
Liberty GMC 15  Heather Van Peursem 3
Liberty: Liberty GMC scored 4 runs in the opening frame for all the runs GMC would need en route to a 4 1/2 inning 15-3 victory.  Dennis Vance, playing in his first game of the season, went 3 for 3 with a double and 3 RBI; and, made several outstanding plays in the field.  Ronnie Silberman was 3 for 4 with a double   and also plated 3 runs.  Sub Mitch Craun 2 for 3, and Randy Van Wagner with a hit added 2 RBI each.  Dean Schoeberl 3 for 4, Kevin Katsuki 3 for 3, Sean Baker 2 for 3, winning pitcher Dennis Karcher with a hit, and Curtis Rhoades 2 for 3 each had a RBI.  Curt also had an excellent game at first base as he converted a couple of errant throws into outs.  Skip Pavitt went 3 for 3 and John Bertholdy 2 for 3 as all GMC players reached safely with at least one hit.
Heather:  Heather Van Peursem lost to Liberty GMC 15-3 on Thursday 2-20-25.  Thank you Laura Fenton-Kovanda for subbing.
Flames 10   One Stop Tile 6
Flames:  t was another beautiful morning at the Field of Dreams! The Orange guys were looking to keep momentum from the late inning comeback on Tuesday afternoon. This was a game of really good defense by the Flames. A running tumbling catch in right field by Eric Coudret on a sinking line drive. Multiple double plays by the middle infield of Greg Roehm, Don Cole and Paul Johne. And two clutch catches in Left Center in the 7th inning by Mitch Craun. Greg Roehm also put on his cape and came out of nowhere from deep short to snag a sinking line drive heading into short left field. Lary Radant toeing the rubber had the One Stop hitters mesmerized tossing 6 innings of shoutout ball. The Flame offense did enough, scoring in every inning but the first. We scored 1 run in the 2nd, and 2 runs in each of the 3rd, 4th, and 5th innings, capping it off with a 3 run 6th inning. To the credit of the never say die One Stop team, they plated 6 runs in their half of the 7th inning. The final score was 10 to 6. All in all, It was a very solid first win of the season for the Flames!
Leading the Flames offensively and going 3 for 4 were Greg Roehm (3 runs, 3 RBI, 2 doubles) and Mitch Craun (1 run, 1 RBI); With 2 hits each were Jim Courtney (2 RBI, 1 walk); Dave Swanson (1 Run) and Eric Coudret (1 run, 1 RBI); Don Cole was 1 for 2, with a Sac fly and 2 RBI. Rounding out the offensive production were Paul Johne (1 hit, 1 run, 1 RBI); Larry Radant (1 hit, 1 run); Bob Lessard (1 hit, 1 Run); Jerry Feldman (1 hit, 1 walk) with Brian Martin (1 Run, 2 walks). Thanks to Cathay Radant for keeping the scorebook! Thanks to Eric Coudret for subbing for us!
One Stop:  The Flames team had One Stop Tile’s number today as they held One Stop Tile scoreless through the first six innings!  Most of the people we talked to after the game said they had never seen that before in the White League.  Fortunately, One Stop Tile saved some face by breaking the scoreless streak with six runs in the bottom of the seventh.  However, it was too little, too late for a final score of 10-6.  Defensively, One Stop Tile turned a Krzeminski-Dompier-Sterricker double play and John Gavazza made some excellent catches in left center field.  Thank you to sub John Recob for pitching well for us today.
Offensively, Dave Dompier smacked two hits (RBI), Kenny Shick nailed a single, John Gavazza pounded a single (RBI) and a SAC fly, Mike Sterricker collected a walk and a single, Jim Opyd ripped a single and scored once, Todd Fletcher drilled a single and scored once, Ray Gibson cracked a single (RBI) and scored once, Kenny Krzeminski banged a single and grabbed a walk and scored once, David Maligro lined two hits, Dick Hansen slapped a single (RBI) and scored once, and John Recob slugged three hits (2 RBI) and scored once.  We’ll play better next time.

Canyon State  15    Regency Specallties  13
Canyon State: After falling behind 13-6 going into the bottom of the fourth, the Canyon State comeback kids buckled down, holding Regency Specialties scoreless for the next three innings while pushing 9 runs across the plate to close out their 2nd victory of the season, 15 -13.  Leading the charge while being perfect at the plate were Allen Bellew (3 for 3 with a double) and Steve (where’s my $40M/yr – it’s deferred Steve, all deferred) Willoughby (3 for 3).  Bruce Lowe also had 3 hits in 4 at bats with a triple.  Contributing with two hits each were Wayne Weidenbach (3 RBI’s with a triple), Ted Schneider, Jeff Tucker (2 doubles), Becky Holliday, Gary Kuhlman, Paul Jinneman, and Kim Macqueen.  Greg Martin had 2 important RBI’s with a hit, and successfully battled the sun in left field for the most part.  All in all, a great team effort.  Thanks to John Hardy, Tom Gruz, and Rick Armentano for a well umpired game, and to Jon Chlebeck in the score tower.
Regency:  The weather has warmed up, and so did Regency Specialties bats for the first few innings, then things cooled off again with no runs in the last 3 innings.  The result was a 15-13 loss to Canyon State.  Leading hitters were Brad Johnson 2/2 and 2 walks, Fred Jensen 4/4, Billy parker 3/3, Dave Anthony 3/4, David Power, Gary Armstrong, Ted Grove and Chip Stanczak(2doubles) were all 2/4.  Everyone had at least a hit as we have hopefully turned the corner hitting wise.  Thanks to Bob Tarr for subbing today on his bye day, greatly appreciated! A fun game against Canyon State!
Liberty GMC 17 Flames 15
Liberty: Liberty GMC jumped out to a 11-1 lead after 4 innings; but, in spite of being  outscored 14-6 over the remaining 3 innings, held on to a 2 run victory.  John Bertholdy stabbed a ball hit up the middle and shut down the 7th inning Flames rally with the tying runs on base.  Dean Schoeberl 5 for 5 with 2 doubles scored 3 times and drove in 4 runs, including the game-winner.  Jeff Heary 3 for 5 with triple and Randy Van Wagner 3 for 3 with a walk each had 3 RBI.  Sub Dave Nathe 2 for 3 with a double and walk and  Ronnie Silberman 3 for 4 each plated 2 runs.  Winning pitcher Dennis Karcher with a hit, Sean Baker 3 for 4 with a double, and Kevin Katsuki with a hit each added a RBI.  Bertholdy with 3 hits, Skip Pavitt with a hit, and Curtis Rhoades with 2 hits closed out the hitting display as all players reached safely with a hit at least once.
Flames:  On a stunning afternoon at the Field of Dreams, the Orange Men fought fiercely with the Liberty GMC squad.  Down 11 to 1 after 4 innings the Flames made a valiant comeback scoring 14 runs in the last 3 frames, while holding Liberty to 6 runs. In a very exciting home half of the 7th inning, the Flames plated 6 runs and had the tying runs on base, and just came up a little short. The final score was 17 - 15 in favor of Liberty GMC.
Leading the Flames offensively were, Mitch Craun (1 run, 5 RBI, a triple), and Chuck Frazier (4 runs, 2 RBI, 2 doubles), Greg Roehm (2 runs, a double), all going 4 for 4; Don Cole 3 for 4, 2 RBI; With 2 hits each were Bob Lessard (2 Runs);  Dave Swanson ( 1 Run, 1 RBI); Paul Johne (2 runs, 1 RBI); Lary Radant (1 run, 2 RBI); Jim Courtney ( 1 run, 1 RBI); with Brian Martin (1 Run) and Chip Stanczak (1 run, 1 RBI, a double) adding hits. Thanks to Cathay Radant for keeping the scorebook! Thanks to Chip Stanczak for subbing for us! And also a special thanks to Jon Chlebeck helping out first time scoreboard operator, Wes Green!
One Stop Tile 18  Fast Signs 10
One Stop: Both teams started slow on offense, but played solid defense through the top of the third inning with One Stop Tile leading 3-1.  However, One Stop Tile jumped out to a 7-1 lead at the end of three.  One Stop Tile played tight defense in the infield and outfield to stretch their lead to 18-7 after six.  Fast Signs threatened with three runs in the top of the seventh, but it was not enough as One Stop Tile prevailed 18-10.  Defensively, winning pitcher Roger Neumann racked up his second win of the season backed by outstanding fielding by Dave Dompier, Mike Sterricker, John Gavazza and Kenny Shick.
Offensively, Dave Dompier pounded two hits (3 RBI) and scored once, Kenny Shick slammed three hits (triple, RBI) and scored three times, John Gavazza drilled two hits (2 RBI) and scored once, Mike Sterricker banged three hits (RBI) and scored once, Jim Opyd slapped three hits (RBI) plus a walk and scored once, Todd Fletcher nailed two hits (RBI) and scored twice, Ray Gibson collected two hits (RBI) plus a walk and scored twice, Kenny Krzeminski lined two hits (2 RBI) and scored three times, David Maligro drilled a double (2 RBI) and collected three walks, Dick Hansen ripped three hits (2 RBI) plus a walk, and Roger Neumann contributed a single and two walks (2 RBI) to support his own cause.  One Stop Tile played its most complete game of the season so far.
Fast Signs:   Our Fast Signs squad was humbled by One Stop Tile 18-10 as Dick's boys were on their game and we gave them too many free passes and dropped balls. Everybody had at least one hit, but few clutch hits. Jon Chlebeck, Tim Brown, and Dan Davidson had 3 hits and Tom Yurkunas had 3 RBI. Go get 'em Thursday, guys.

Liberty GMC 15  One Stop Tile 3
Liberty: Behind the strong pitching of Dennis Karcher and team defense, Liberty GMC picked up a 15-3 run-shortened win over One Stop Tile.  The offense was led by Jeff Heary 3 for 4 with a a double, triple and 3 RBI; Randy Van Wagner 2 for 4 with a double and 3 RBI; sub Dave Nathe 3 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI; Ronnie Silberman 2 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI; and Sean Baker 3 for 3 and 2 RBI.  Dennis Karcher with a hit, Kevin Katsuki 3 for 3, and Curtis Rhoades with a hit each plated a run.  Dean Schoeberl, Skip Pavitt, and John Bertholdy each had 2 hits and figured in the scoring.
One Stop:   One Stop Tile ran into a buzz saw called Liberty GMC on the first Friday morning of the Winter season today.  Liberty GMC broke out with five runs in the bottom of the first inning and steadily pulled away from there for a 15-3 six inning victory.  Unfortunately, One Stop Tile had problems at the plate and in the field, but we are looking forward to improving throughout the coming weeks.  Defensively, One Stop Tile turned two double plays.  One was turned by Kenny Krzeminski-Dave Dompier-Mike Sterricker, and the other was an unassisted double play by Mike Sterricker who caught a hard line drive near first base and beat the runner that had left first base back to the bag.
Offensively, Mike Sterricker slugged three hits and Todd Fletcher smacked two hits.  Dave Dompier, Kenny Shick, John Gavazza (RBI), Jim Opyd, David Maligro, Kenny Krzeminski (2 RBI) each had a hit.  Going forward, we know we can and will play better.  Credit the Liberty GMC team for playing an excellent game.

Canyon State 14    Heather Van Peursem 11
Canyon State:  An all-around team effort resulted in Canyon State recording its first win of the season, 14 -11 over Heather Van Peursem.  Rookie manager Paul Jinneman only needs 1,904 more wins to catch Casey Stengel, and probably at least half that amount to catch Coach Rod.  We jumped out to a 12-6 lead after 4 innings, but being the kind hearted souls we are, allowed Heather to close the gap to 12-10 after six innings.  Our defense was strong all day, especially in the 7th inning, when we closed out the game with two great catches in the outfield.  We totaled 26 hits, led by Bruce Lowe and Allen Bellew with 4 each.  Wayne Weidenbach (plus a walk) had three hits, with everyone else having 2 hits except for that Jinneman character who only had 1 hit.  Eagle eye Greg Martin had two walks.  Wayne, Jeff Tucker, Allen, and Gary Kuhlman contributed a double each.  Thanks to Bill Tierney for subbing (hope you heal quickly); Mitch Craun for subbing at the last minute for Bill; and for my better 3/4’s (some say 7/8’s, but they exaggerate) Linda for keeping the scorebook.
Heather:   We had the hammer in the bottom of the 7th, but couldn't get the key hit to win the game (due to a couple of great OF catches by Canyon St.) and we took the loss 14-11 in an exciting game at the Grand.  We played well defensively with lots of good catches in both the OF and IF, including an out at home by RCF Dan Newman to P John Recob to C Paul Larson.  Offensively, we were led by perfection at the plate by SS Murray Fairweather 4/4, 3rd baseman Brett Frangenberg 3/3 and LF Randy Ratcliff 3/3 (3 RBI) playing a great LF as well.  Contributing big time was R Mark Beckner 4/5 with a 3 run double, 2nd baseman Jim Jozwowski 3/4 with 2 runs and an RBI.  Every HVP player had at least one hit, a run or an RBI.  A big congratulations to new manager Paul Jinneman who notched his first win as manager.  Thanks to the umpires and tower operator for keeping the game moving.  An especially big thanks to Sally Beckner who kept a perfect scorebook
Liberty GMC 13  Regency Specialties 1
Liberty:  Behind the strong pitching of Dennis Karcher and team defense, Liberty GMC opened the winter session with a 13-1 run-shortened win over Regency Specialties.  The offense was led by Jeff Heary 3 for 4 with a homerun and 3 RBI; sub Dave Nathe 3 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI; and Randy Van Wagner 3 for 4 and 2 RBI.  Dean Schoeberl 2 for 3 with a walk, Ronnie Silberman 3 for 4, Dennis Karcher with a hit and walk, Skip Pavitt with a hit, Sean Baker with a hit, and Kevin Katsuki 2 for 3 with a double each plated a run.  John Bertholdy and Curtis Rhoades each doubled as all players had at least one hit and figured in the scoring.  Although all players contributed to a strong team defense, several plays stood out: Kevin Katsuki catch a game-ending flyball off the bat of John Hammill that appeared destined for the wall; Curtis Rhoades snaring a line drive at 3rd base to shut down an early rally; and Sean Baker making two difficult outfield catches.
Regency:  Regency specialties had a tough day at the ballpark today, losing to Liberty GMC by a score of 13-1 in 6 innngs.  We played decent defense, but just couldn’t get the bats going.  We only managed 10 hits for the whole game.  Bright spots were Brad Johnson 3/3 and Ted Grove 2/2.  Thanks to Laura Fenton for subbing this week.  Hoping all our friends who are under the weather with stuff going around all get well quickly.  We will be back next week ready to go!
Fast Signs 16  Flames 4
Fast Signs: On a beautiful Thursday morning the Flames smacked us in the face with 4 runs in the top of the first to wake us up, and we came back to shut them down the remainder of the game eventually rolling to a 16-4 victory. After the first we were rock solid on defense shutting the visitors out the rest of the game. Our pitcher Rod helped his own cause hitting his spots and flagging down several balls hit up the middle and what he didn't get, rover Becky Holliday was there to make the plays. Andy C(3-3) was key defensively at SS and Wes Green(2-3) at 1B made a nice stop on a grounder outracing the runner to 1st and he also saved an errant throw for an out. The outfield consisting of Dave Nathe(3-3), Jim Burnett(2-3), Tim Brown(2-3, 3 RBI), and Jon Chlebeck(2-3) hit well and caught everything within reach. Dick Nunez came off the sickbed to go 3-3 with a pair of RBI, Dan Davidson was 3-3 and Don Trenda had scored a pair of runs. As always, a wonderful job by the Kochs in their roles.
Flames:  On a chilly morning at the Field of Dreams, the Flames were mercied in the 5th inning by a really good Fast Signs  team. The Flames got out of the gate strong, scoring 4 runs in the first inning, and then holding the powerful Fast Signs line up to 2 runs in their half of the first inning. After a scoreless second frame, the wheels came off for the overmatched Flames team. With Fast Signs scoring 5 in the 3rd, 5 in the 4th and then 4 runs to close it out in the 5th. All while the Flames were shut out after their initial 4 run outburst. The final score was 16 - 4
Leading the Flames offensively were, Greg Roehm, 3 for 3; Bob Lessard, 2 for 2 with 2 RBI; Dave Swanson, 1 for 1, with a walk; Paul Johne, 1 hit, and a run scored; Mitch Craun, a hit, a run scored, and a RBI; Eric Coudret, a hit, a run scored, and a RBI; with Larry Radant and Brian Martin adding hits. Thanks to Cathy Radant for keeping the scorebook! Thanks to Eric Coudret, for again subbing for us!

One Stop Tile 14  Heather Van Peursem 12
One Stop:   It didn’t look good for One Stop Tile to start the Winter session when they gave up five runs in the top of the first inning to a fine Heather Van Peursem team, but fortunately One Stop Tile responded with three runs in the bottom of the first. to quickly cut the deficit to 5-3.  Things got better in the second inning when One Stop Tile took the lead briefly with five runs in the bottom of the second making the score 8-7.  Heather Van Peursem then tied the game, 8-8, in the third.  In the fourth and fifth innings, One Stop Tile scored three runs in each extending their lead to 14-9.  The Heather Van Peursen team battled back with two runs in the sixth and one run in the seventh, but came up just short with players on base, 14-12.
Pitcher Rockin’ Roger Neumann delivered a sterling performance on the hill to win the season opener for One Stop Tile.  Numerous outstanding defensive gems were turned in by Ray Ray Gibson, Dave Dompier, John Gavazza, Kenny Schick, Todd Fletcher and sub Eric Coudret.
Offensively, Dave Dompier ripped three hits while collecting a walk and scoring three times, Kenny Schick pounded three hits (triple) with three RBI and two runs scored, John Gavazza slugged three singles with three RBI and three scores, Ray Gibson drilled two hits (triple) with a sacrifice fly and three RBI, Jim Opyd collected two walks and a single with one RBI and a run scored, Mike Sterricker banged two hits (two RBI), Todd Fletcher hammered three hits (two RBI), David Maligro smacked a single and scored once, Dick Hansen nailed two hits (double) and scored once, and Roger Neumann collected a single and a walk while scoring twice.  Tom Gruzs did an excellent job keeping the scorebook and coaching first base.  Thanks to sub Eric Coudret for helping us today.
Heather:  In the Opening Day at the Grand Field of Dreams under windy conditions for the White League, Heather Van Peursem fell to One Stop Tile 14-12.  Defensively, we played a pretty good game with a lot of outfield outs and an out at home plate.
Offensively, we were led by Pitcher John Recob 4/4, 3rd Brett Frangenberg 4/4, R Mark Beckner 4/5 and SS Murray Fairweather 4/5.
1st Dan Newman, 2nd Frank Plahutnik and LF Randy Ratcliff were all 3/4.  Frank had 3 RBI, Murray with 2, Bob Tarr with 2 and Brett with 2.
Everyone on the team had at least 1 hit, scored a run or had an RBI.  Many thanks to Bill Parker and Kim Hurd for umpiring and John Hammel in the tower.   A really big thank you to Sally Beckner for keeping our scorebook.  Better things are in store for the HVP eleven.
Regency Specialties 9  Flames 7
Regency:  The first game of the Winter season went well for Regency Specialties as our team came together quickly.  We scored just enough runs to hold off Dave Swanson’s Flames by a score of 9-7.  A fun ballgame all around!  Leading hitters were Billy Parker 2/2 with a walk, super sub Laura Fenton 3/3, Dave Anthony 3/4, and David Power, Kim Hurd, John Hammel and Gary Armstrong all were 2/4.  Patience at the plate payed off with 5 walks (Brad Johnson 2, Chip Stanszak 1, Ted Grove 1, Billy Parker 1) .  Several great defensive plays including a super relay from Bill Parker to Gary Armstrong, who threw a bullet to home plate to an outstretched Ted Grove to get a huge out and save a run.
Thanks to Laura Fenton for subbing, we will be back at it Thursday morning!
Flames:  On an absolutely beautiful day at the Field of Dreams, with the wind blowing out to right center, the Flames lost a close one to a very good Regency Specialties team. This game showed both teams throwing the leather and playing good defense! The Flames had a couple of double plays in key situations to keep the score close.  After some early game back and forth, the score was 7 - 6 after 4 innings of play, with Regency Specialties leading by 1 run. The teams added runs in the 5th, Regency scoring 2, and the Flames 1, closing out the scoring in the game. The final score was  9 - 7, with Regency the winner. The flame had an opportunity in the bottom of the 7th inning, but went down 1, 2, 3, in order. We’ll have to find our bats for Thursday’s game! Leading the team offensively were, Paul Johne, 2 for 3, with a double, a run scored; Greg Roehm, 2 for 3, with a double, a run scored, and 1 RBI; Dave Swanson, 2 for 3, with a double, 1 run scored, and 1 RBI; Jim Countney, 2 for 3, a run scored, and 1 RBI; Danny Wood, 2 for 3 with 1 RBI; Eric Coudret, added a hit and a RBI; Mitch Craun, Gary Kulman and Tom Ciavarella added hits, with Lary Radant knocking in 2 runs. Thanks to Dave Nathe for keeping the scorebook! Thanks to Eric Coudret, Danny Wood and Gary Kuhlman for subbing for us in the Flames first ever game!
Fast Signs 16  Canyon State 4
Fast Signs:  In the season opener our "Sub"Way team, AKA Fast Signs group got the season off to a rousing start with 16-4 win over Canyon State, Thanks to our numerous subs, Bub Bandfield, Randy Van Wagner, Kenny Shick, Dave Nathe, Curtis Rhoades, and mid game sub Paul Larson as they filled in for a team hit with sickness and injuries. Larson flashed the leather turning 2 double plays from his rover position. Andy Campbell(4-4) also played a strong defensive game. Shick, Nathe(HR), Bandfield, and Campbell were perfect on the day while Rod, Jon Chlebeck, and Randy had a mere one out and Tim Brown had a pair of hits. Don Treda and Dan Davidson played well after each had a long layoff. Nathe had 4 RBI, and Jon and Randy had 3 to lead in that category. The subs did great, but hopefully the regulars return to action soon.
Canyon State:  The fans in the stands were oohing and awing, almost reminiscent of Meg Ryan enjoying a Hellmann’s mayo sandwich, as Canyon State started out the top of the first with a dazzling play with Becky Holliday throwing from deep rover to Jeff “Stretch” Tucker to beat the runner by a hair.  Unfortunately for the Canyon State eleven it was all downhill from there as we were mercied after six innings by Fast Signs by a score of 16 -4.  Starting her quest to lead the team in batting average was Kim Macqueen (2 for 2) with 2 RBI’s, matched by Allen Bellew who was also 2 for 2.  Pitcher Ted Schneider, whose ERA was not nearly as bad as the score indicates (you know what that means), also had 2 hits.   Contributing 1 hit each were Greg Martin, sub Ray Ray Gibson, Bruce Lowe, Gary Kuhlman, Steve Willoughby, and Paul Jinneman.   Thank you to Ray Ray for subbing, John Hardy and Tom Gruz for a well-umped game, and to Ted Grove in the score tower.   Hopefully we got all our opening day jitters out.  Watch out for us in the next 19 games!
