Liberty GMC 20 One Stop Tile 11
Liberty: On an unseasonably cold and blustery day that played havoc with any balls in the air, Liberty GMC prevailed by a 20-11 margin over 2nd place One Stop Tile. Tim Schiewe 3 for 4 with a triple had 5 RBI on the day. Mitch Craun also 3 for 4 with a triple plated 4 runs. Glenn Griffin and winning pitcher Dave Anthony with a double and triple each were 3 for 4 with 3 RBI. Perfect from the plate were Dean Schoeberl 4 for 4 with 4 runs scored, Brad Johnson 4 for 4 with 4 runs scored and a RBI, and Curt Rhoades 2 for 2 with a walk and 2 RBI. Becky Holliday with a hit and sacrifice fly and Greg Martin each added a RBI. Bob Tarr and Sean Baker each had a hit and scored.
One Stop: Right out of the box, Liberty GMC put up five runs in the top of the first inning, but One Stop Tile responded with four runs in the bottom to keep it close. However, Liberty GMC hit very well in the second and third innings by scoring five runs in each, making the score 15-5 at the end of three. It didn’t get any better later as Liberty GMC walked away with a 20-11 victory in six innings. Much credit goes to Liberty GMC for outstanding pitching, fielding and hitting. And congratulations to Manager Bruce Spiegel and his talented team for clinching the Fall League Championship early. Wind, blowing dust and cold made conditions difficult today for everyone. Offensively, Wayne Weidenbach drilled two hits and grabbed a walk while scoring once, Mark Beckner pounded two hits and scored twice, John Gavazza ripped four hits (double, RBI) and scored twice, Tim Brown also slugged four hits (2 RBI) and scored twice, Murray Fairweather (not related to Stormy Daniels) hammered three hits (2 RBI) and scored twice, Dave Swanson gathered a walk and a hit (2 RBI), Jim Opyd was a perfect 3/3 and a walk (2 RBI), sub Jim Burnett banged three hits (double, RBI), Dennis Karcher collected hit and a walk (RBI), Frank Plahutnik earned walk, and Dick Hansen connected on two hits (double) and scored once. Thanks to sub Jim Burnett for helping us out today. |

Fast Signs 8 Regency Specialties 3
Fast Signs: On a wind-blown Field of Dreams our Fast Signs group scored 5 in the first and rode the pitching and defense the rest of the way in an 8-3 win.The combination of a strong wind blowing in from the outfield, good pitching and defense made this a low scoring affair with several force outs on throws from the outfield taking away hits. Our outfield of Brian Martin, Randy Van Wagner, Bill Tierney, and John Hammel did a great job of negotiating the wind and Ray Gibson made a number of good plays from his rover spot including a DP. In the first inning where we took charge of the game leadoff hitter Fred Jensen(3-3), Andy Campbell, John the hammer, and Ray Gibson all got hits, and Randy VW keyed the rally with a two run single. The only two extra base hits batting into the wind including a booming shot over the left fielder by Armstrong and a Rod double. Sub Steve Schramm played a nice game and had 2 hits as did Andy, John, Ray, Randy, and Brian. Sub Jim J hit the ball well each time up but was the victim of the wind and of teammates getting forced out at 2B from the OF.
Regency: It was a cold windy day at the Field of Dreams today for the game between Regency Specialties and Fast Signs. The wind played havoc with fielders and even pitchers. The only thing colder than the wind chill was our bats. We were only able to get 14 hits in a low scoring 8-3 loss to Fast Signs. Leading hitters for Regency were Bob Lessard 2/2, Gale Hiser 2/2 with a walk, Craig Warner(double) and Paul Larson were 2/3. Roger Neumann, who fought the wind well while pitching was 1/2 with a walk. Hopefully next week brings warmer weather and hotter hitting to our closing 2 games.
Canyon State 14 Heather Van Peursem 13
Canyon: I think the big winner was the wind, but in between gusts we played a softball game. It was a hotly contested game that almost ended in a come from behind victory for HVP, however, Canyon held on in the end. Steve Willoughby led the offense going 2/2 and 2 walks. Sub Craig Warner, Dick Nunez, sub Jim Burnett, Randy Ratliff, and Tom Yurkunas were all 3/4. Warner had 2 doubles and Yurkunas had a triple. Jeff Heary, Chuck Frazier, and John Recob were all 2/4. Frazier added a double Burnett was the star on defense making several outstanding catches in left center field. He is a very good all around player. It was great having him and Warner on the team!! |
||||||
Heather: Heather Van Peursem scored 4 with the hammer in the bottom of the 7th, but came up a run short and Canyon State HVAC took a 14-13 win. We had a 9-8 lead through 5 innings but we got outscored 6-4 the last two innings. Every one of our players scored or had an RBI. Overall we played a good game despite the wind, sun and cold conditions, it was a constant battle. Defensively RF Chip Stanzcak made some nice catches saving at least 3 runs, while Kim MacQueen at 2nd base caught a line drive for a double play. The highlight of the game defensively was on the first pitch of the game as our LF made a running over the shoulder catch for the first out against a Red Leaguer to be next session. . . .'nuf said! Offensively, Paul "Gentleman" Jinneman was perfect at the plate 4/4 with a run and RBI, next with 4 hits was our leadoff hitter Howard "photo" Sumner and he scored 2 and had a ribbie. 4 players had 3 hits including P Ted "cruise" Schneider 2 runs, SS Arlo "Bud" Bandfield added a double in his 3 hits and scored 2 and drove in 2, Kim "cruise" MacQueen 3/4 with a run and an RBI and Danny Wood 3/4, 2 Runs and an RBI. Chip added an RBI. 3rd baseman Dan Newman, double and 2 RBI, R Don Cole, 2 RBI and Bill Parker RBI, all added 2 hits. Many thanks to Commissioner Rick Armentano and Rover extraordinaire, Mark Beckner for doing a great job umpiring as did the ever present Mark Jensen in the tower. A long overdue thank you to Hall of Famer Norm Lustig for striping our field almost every game and I might add in nasty weather like this morning. Finally, a big thanks to Don Trenda for keeping our scorebook. |

One Stop: One Stop Tile got off to a good start with a 7-3 lead after two innings, but the Canyon State team, a group of Big Boppers, threatened with bases loaded a couple of times and two men on base other times, but the One Stop Tile defense held up under pressure. Numerous critical and timely defensive plays were turned in by Dapper Dave Swanson, Jungle Jim Opyd, pitcher Dennis The Menace Karcher, Mark The Shark Beckner, Murray The Weatherman Fairweather, Downtown Tim Brown and Frank The Tank Plahutnik. Actually, everyone on the team played well defensively in spite of a bright sunny today. Dandy Dennis Karcher notched his eleventh win of the season. Offensively, lead-off man Wayne Weidenbach drilled three hits in four at-bats and scored twice; Paul Johne, in his first at-bat, smoked a hot shot that eluded two fielders all the way to the wall for an inside-the park homer plus a single (4 RBI) and scored once, Mark Beckner pounded three singles (3 RBI), Tim Brown slugged a single and a triple and scored once, John Gavazza ripped three singles (RBI), Murray Fairweather banged two singles and got robbed twice, Dave Swanson slammed three hits (double) and scored once, Jim Opyd slapped two hits and scored once, Dennis Karcher nailed two singles (RBI), Frank Plahutnik collected a walk and a single and scored twice, and Dick Hansen lined three hits (RBI) and scored twice. One Stop Tile baserunners motored around the bases efficiently, helping to make the difference in a tight contest. |
||||||
Canyon: We couldn't get the bats going today. Credit goes to pitcher Dennis Karcher and the One Stop defense Leading the hitting for Canyon was Dick Nunez with a double. Kevin Katsuki was also perfect going 3/3. Jeff Heary was 3/4 with a double. Dennis Vance, Randy Ratcliff, and sub C.CL Eversman were all 2/3. Steve Willoughby was 2/4. Thank you C.L. for subbing. |

Liberty GMC 19 Fast Signs 18
Liberty: Liberty GMC fought the sun and the sun won as the team fell behind Fast Signs 16-9 heading into the bottom of the 5th inning. Showing great determination and getting a few breaks, Liberty outscored Fast Signs 10-2 in the remaining frames to close out a 19-18 come from behind victory and clinch first place on the season. Liberty GMC was led by Brad Johnson 5 for 5 with a double and 4 RBI. Mitch Craun went 4 for 5 on the day and plated 3 runs. Earlier Greg Martin and Bob Tarr made key outfield plays to shut down rallies.
Fast Signs: In a battle with first place Liberty, our Fast Signs team battled hard as we fell to the champs 19-18. In a great back and forth game with lots of ebbs and flows we came up just short of our second win over Bruce's boys this season. In the end it was a potential game ending dropped infield popup that at opened the door as we were protecting the lead (18-16) gave them an opening and Liberty rapped several hits in a row after that to pull out the win. On the other the other side, I was very proud of the way our guys battled all the way in a fun contest. We hit the ball very well against the best defense in the league. Our subs Jon Chlebeck, Eric Coudret, and Wes Green(3RBI) were perfect on the day. John Hammel stayed white, hot going 5-5. Andy Campbell (3-5) was top in RBI's with 4 and Brian Martin picked up RBI in his 3-4 day. Everybody had at least one hit- Ray 3-5, Rod 2-4, Gary 2-3, Bill 1-4, and Fred 2-4. Congratulations to Liberty for wrapping up first place with 3 games to play.
Heather Van Peursem 10 Regency Specialties 8
Heather: In our 17th game of the session, we finally played a game without any subs. . . . . . .and we won, beating Regency Specialties 10-8. We scored 2 runs in the top of the 7th to take a 10-5 lead into the bottom of the 7th, but we allowed 3 runs and came away with our 3rd win of the session. We had our finest defensive game of the season with great plays from 3rd Chip Stanczak, SS Bud Bandfield and 2nd Kim MacQueen and anchored at 1st by Dan Newman. Fast Signs: Our Fast Signs squad had a hit from everyone in a 29 hit effort in a 16-7 win in a game where we scored every inning against One Stop. On the other side of the ball we shut the visitors out in 5 of the 7 innings with solid defense behind Rod's pitching. Leadoff hitter, Skip Pavitt, was 4-5(4 RBI) completing his season with a hit in all 16 games that he played batting over 600 for the season Randy VW continued his hot second half with 3 RBI's and was 4-4 along with Bill Tierney. Finishing with 3 hits were Rod, Ray, and "the Hammer". Gary A, Brian and Fred had 2 knocks. Andy played a good SS and added to the offense with a hit. Thanks to sub, Dave Powers, who gave us good OF play and hit the ball well. Thanks again for the good coaching on the bases by Ken Shick and Ted. Hopefully, Ken will be able to rejoin us on the field again soon. |

The One Stop Tile guys then woke up briefly in the fifth inning with three runs, but they were still behind 11-7. We were 13/32 at the plate for a .406 average and only lost by 3 runs. Defensively, Howard played a great RCF, making numerous catches, Don Cole catching a line drive at Rover, Kim MacQueen corralling a line drive at 2nd and Bud Bandfield turning a nice double play. With our sharp defense, the Truck Boys left a lot of runners on base. A special thank you to Kris Koch for keeping our scorebook and she didn't have to sharpen the pencil one time. |

Regency: Regency Specialties battled first place Liberty GMC in the cocktail game this afternoon. We were tied after 4 innings and with no runs scored by either team in the 5th, it set up a great finish. After Liberty scored 5 in the 6th inning and we put up a zero, it wasn’t looking good, but we held Liberty in the top of the 7th to no runs. With an exciting finish in the bottom of the seventh third base coach Mike Wunsch was busy as we scored 6 runs for the win, with all 11 players coming to the plate and Kenny K (Krzeminski, 3/5) got the game winning hit to secure an 18-17 win! Leading hitters were Gale Hiser 5/5 with two doubles, Gary Kuhlman 4/4 , Rick Armentano 4/5 with a triple and a walk, David Maligro 3/4 with a double, Sub Bruce Lowe 2/3 with a triple and a sac fly, Dave Dompier 2/4 and a walk, Bob Lessard and Jim Courtney 2/4 , Roger Neumann, who pitched a great game was 1/3 with a crucial walk in the 7th and Paul Larson with a sac fly and a great save at 1st base . Congratulations to Regency for their tenacity in coming away with the win.
One Stop Tile 18 Heather Van Peursem 15
One Stop: The first two innings of this game were close as Heather Van Peursem took a 6-4 lead. The One Stop guys then exploded for five runs in the 3rd and five more runs in the 4th to take a seemingly commanding 14-7 lead. However, the Heather Van Peursem team was not done, outscoring One Stop Tile 6-4 in the fifth and sixth innings putting the score at 18 -13 in favor of One Stop Tile entering the 7th inning. One Stop Tile didn’t score in the top of the seventh and left the door open for the Realtors to rally in the unlimited inning. Fortunately for One Stop Tile, they were able to limit the Heather Van Peursem team to two runs and held on for a hard-fought win. Pitcher Dennis Karcher notched his 10th win of the season and had good offensive support. Dazzling defensive plays were turned in by Frank Plahutnik, Tim Brown and sub Jim Burnett among others. Thanks again to sub Jim Burnett for helping us out today. |
||||||
Heather: Heather played one heck of the game to give One Stop Tile all they could handle. One Stop put up two 5 run innings early and we outscored them the last 3 innings, but it was just not enough. We had a few defensive lapses, but played well offensively, other than the 4th inning when we had the bases loaded with no outs and failed to score. Offensively, Arlo "Bud" Bandfield was our hitting hero going 4/4 with a double, a triple, scoring 3 runs and driving in 3. He was followed very closely by David "power hitter" Power, 4/4, scoring 2 and 2 RBI. With 3 hits each were Paul Jinneman, Danny Wood and super sub pitcher C. L. Eversman. Tallying 2 hits were Kim MacQueen, Howard Sumner, Dan "Hello" Newman, Don Cole and Billy Parker. Ted Schneider added a double and with an Intentional Walk with 2 out in the 7th, let's just say the results were not favorable to our team. Thanks again to CL for subbing and pitching, to the umpires and tower and to Don Trenda for keeping our scorebook. |
||||||
Canyon State 9 Fast Signs 7

John added a double. Les Zirbel was 2/4 with 2 doubles. Shortstop Dennis Vance had several great plays. Nunez was able to handle numerous hard grounders at first. Thank you Tim for bringing the winning spirit of GMC to us!!
Fast Signs: On another wonderful day in Grand, Canyon State parlayed good defense into a 9-7 victory over our Fast Signs team 9-7. With two strong hitting teams a slugfest looked likely, but pitching and defense prevailed on this day. We were down 4-3 in the 4th when Canyon broke loose with 5 runs and a took a 9-3 lead. We shut them out the rest of the day, but couldn't put anything together on offense scoring a few more to make it close. Randy VW and Brian Martin had 3 hits hits to lead out offense and Ray Ray had 3 Rbi to lead in that category. Bill Tierney had a hit and a walk while Gary Armstrong, John Hammel, Andy Campbell, And Dean Schoebert(sub) had a pair of hits. Heather: On a chilly winter morning, the HVP eleven came through with a big victory to even our 2025 record at one win and one loss (the same as we started the 2024 Fall League season). We had tied the game at 8 going into the last inning. And in the "open" inning, we scored 9 and only allowed 6 to take a 17-14 WIN over the well coached and well pitched FastSigns team. Offensively, we were led by Howard Sumner 4/5, a double, 3 runs and 2 RBI, Ted Schneider 3/4, a walk, 3 runs and an RBI, Paul Jinneman 3/5, a run and 2 RBI, Bud Bandfield 3/4, a run and an RBI, Danny Wood 3/4, double, 2 runs and 3 RBI and Kim MacQueen 3/4 with a run and an RBI. We had two super subs today with C.L. Eversman at Pitcher 3/4 with a run and an RBI and Bruce Lowe RF 3/4, 2 runs and an RBI. Dan Newman added a double, 2 runs and an RBI, Don Cole had a Sac Fly that produced 2 RBI and David Power (great catches in LCF today) had a hit scoring 2 runs. Thanks to both C.L. and Bruce as our subs came through very big today. And a special thanks to all of our teammates for their perseverance during this tough stretch in the schedule. . . . .boy howdy it's fun to WIN. Many thanks to our umpires Frank "Fred-Pluto" Plahutnik and Dick "mgr" Hansen as well as Mike "the" Wunsch in the tower. Thank you Don Trenda for keeping our scorebook each game. |
|||||||
Fast Signs: In a game that was tied at 8-8 after six, the Heather Van Peursem squad let loose with a huge 9 run 7th and they hung on for a 17-14 win over our Fast Signs outfit. In a day where we had 3 shortstops, 3 injuries, and lots of bobbles, and outs on the bases. we were lucky to be tied after six innings. After the realtors dropped a bomb on us in last inning, we batted around in the bottom half, but came up short. Credit goes to HVP for playing a good defensive game and coming through with the bats in the 7th against us. On offense, it was too little too late for our gang, but both John Hammel and Fred Jensen went 4-4 while Mitch Crohn, Randy VW, Skip and Rod had 3 hits. Thanks to Mitch(3RBI) for subbing last second and to Gale Hiser and Craig Warner for filling in midgame. Hopefully, each of the injured will heal quickly.

Neither team scored in the fifth and sixth innings (weather shortened game) as the final score ended up 14-5 for the second place One Stop Tile team. After a three-game hitting hiatus, One Stop Tile found their batting strokes again in the New Year. The One Stop Tile offense got excellent defensive help too with outstanding plays by John Gavazza, sub Kenny Schick, Mark Beckner and a much-need double play by Mark Beckner-sub Jim Burnett-Frank Plahutnik. Pitcher Dennis Karcher won his ninth game of the season. Offensively, Wayne Weidenbach rang up 4 hits in 4 at-bats and scored twice, Mark Beckner almost hit for the cycle (two singles, a double and a triple (2 RBI) and scored twice, Tim Brown ripped two singles and a triple (2 RBI) and scored twice, John Gavazza pounded two singles (2 RBI) and scored twice, Murray Fairweather drilled two singles and scored once, Dave Swanson slugged three singles (RBI) and scored once, sub Kenny Schick lined a single (RBI) and scored once, sub Jim Burnett collected a single (2 RBI) and a walk and a SAC and one run scored, Dennis Karcher slammed a double and a single (2 RBI), Frank Plahutnik drove in an RBI on two singles, and Dick Hansen lined a single (RBI) and scored once. Twenty-five hits today was an excellent improvement over recent outings. Thank you to our subs today: Jim Burnett, Kenny Schick and Bruce Lowe. |

Regency: Today’s temperature wasn’t the only thing cold as Regency Specialties bats only produced 5 runs against Dick Hansen’s One Stop Tiles guys, losing 14-5. It was pretty lonely for third base coach Mike Wunsch with not much business at third. We will regroup and be back at it next Tuesday! Leading hitters were Roger Neumann 1/1 with 2 walks, Ken Krzeminski, Ted Grove, Paul Larson, and Bob Lessard were all 2/3. |

Fast Signs: Fast Signs extended their win streak to 3 games with a 16 win over Regency Specialists in a team effort as everyone had a hit and scored a run. The eldest player on the field, Ray Ray, was the hitting star putting his many years of experience to work going 4-4 with a double, triple, and 4 RBI. Our igniter, Ken Shick was also 4-4 with 3 RBI plus making a brilliant over the shoulder catch. Rod(2-3) helped himself on the mound flagging down several smashes. Sub Jeff Tucker was a big help going 3-4 and joined John Hammel and Fred Jensen in the 3-4 club. The game was close at 5-4 when we put up some crooked numbers to pull away. Randy VW (3 RBI) had clutch two out hits in those rallies. Bill Tierney looked good as he returned from injury going 2-3. Other contributors were Skip and Brian Martin with a hit and Andy Campbell chipped in with a pair of hits. Ted did his usual good job waving runners home while Kris was perfect on the books again.
Regency: Regency Specialties first game back from the long break came up short against Rod Wilterdink and his Fast Signs guys, losing 16-7. Top hitters for Regency were Bob Lessard 3/3, Dave Dompier 3/4 , Ken Krzeminski 3/4 , Jim Courtney 2/3 and David Maligro 2/3, Rick Armentano, Gary Kuhlman and Ted Grove were all 2/4.
Liberty Buick 14 One Stop Tile 2
Liberty: Liberty GMC extended its lead over 2nd place OneStop Tile to 4 games with 7 games remaining by defeating OneStop 14-2 Liberty returned from the holiday break eager to come back from the one loss the team sustained just before the break. Special thanks to Craig Warner 4 for 4 with a double and 3 RBI filling in for Glenn Griffin. Also 4 for 4 on the day: Brad Johnson with a double, triple and 2 RBI; and Tim Schiewe with 2 RBI. Dean Schoeberl 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and a triple, Mitch Craun 2 for 4 with a double, and winning pitcher Dave Anthony 2 for 4 each plated 2 runs. Greg Martin padded his team leading walk total and also batted in a run. Defense was strong throughout the game. However, the play that stood out was a 2nd inning ending double play Johnson to Schoeberl to Curt Rhoades after 2 runs had scored and the bases were loaded. Also, the team extends its wishes to former Assistant Coach Dennis Vance who has been "promoted" to the Canyon State roster for the remainder of the season. |
|||||||
One Stop: It didn’t take long for Liberty GMC to show why they are in first place today as they led from start to finish in this blowout win over One Stop Tile. Although it looked like One Stop Tile forgot their bats or hitting shoes or whatever, we only made it through the sixth inning before succumbing 14-2 in a mercy game. Kudos to Liberty GMC for their excellence in the field and at bat. Hopefully, our One Stop Tile team can awaken from winter hibernation in time for our next game. Offensively for One Stop Tile, Wayne Weidenbach drilled three hits (double), Mark Beckner nailed a single, sub Bruce Lowe banged a single and scored once, Murray Fairweather pounded a single and scored once, Dave Swanson laced a single, sub Kenny Shick cracked two singles (RBI) and made some nice outfield catches, Dennis Karcher collected a single (RBI) and a walk, and Dick Hansen slapped a single. Eleven hits is almost never enough so we expect to break out next time. Thanks to Ken Shick and Bruce Lowe for subbing. |

Canyon State 12 Heather Van Peursem 10
Canyon: It wasn't pretty, but Canyon State managed to hold on for a 12-10 victory over Heather Van Peursem. It was a hard fought game that either team could have won. Dick Nunez led the hitting going 4/4. Also perfect at the place was newcomer Dennis Vance and pitcher John Recob both going 3/3. John added a in a triple. Les Zirbel was 3/4, Jeff Heary and Chuck Frazier were both 2/3. Steve Willoughby was 2/4 including a big home run in the 6th inning. Dennis Vance and Kevin Katsuki handled the middle of the infield at shortstop and rover. |
|||||||
Heather: After taking a 9-6 lead in the top of the 5th, we couldn't hold the HVAC boys as they scored 6 runs to take a 12-10 victory over the Heather Van Peursem eleven. Even though we lost, we played one of our best defensive (and offensive) games of the session. Offensively, we were led by P Ted Schneider 4/4, RCF Howard Sumner 3/4 with a grand slam home run and 4 RBI's and SS Arlo "Bud" Bandfield 3/4 with 2 runs and an RBI Following with two hits each were C Paul Jinnneman (2 RBI), LF Danny Wood, a run and an RBI and LCF David Power with an RBI. Regency: Regency Specialties got the bats going today against a pesky Heather Van Peursem team. We started out with 9 runs in the first two innings and Heather kept plugging away, with the score tied at the end of 5. We managed 8 unanswered runs in the last two frames to win 19-11. The outcome was a lot closer than the score showed. John Hammel was 4/4(double), Gale Hiser(double) and Brad Johnson(double) 4/5, Paul Larson, Tim Schiewe(double) Ken Krzeminski(triple) and Kenny Shick were all 3/4. Bob Tarr was 2/3 with a walk. Dave Birthday Boy Dompier was 2/4. Everyone had at least one hit. Roger Neumann continued doing well on the mound including a great double play to an alert Paully Larson at first base. Thanks to our subs Tim, Brad, Kenny, Bob and John. Hopefully the injury bug has left the building and we will have our team back after the break. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all!
Heather: On a beautiful day for Senior softball. Heather Van Peursem lost to a hard hitting Regency team. For Heather, perfect at the plate were Don Cole 4 for 4 and David Power 3 for 3. On base 3 for 4 were; Chip Stanczak, Paul Jinneman, Ted Schdeider and Dan Newman. Howard Sumner, Dennis Vance and Greg Roehm each had a double.
Fast Signs 10 Liberty 9 | |||||||
Fast Sgins: Our Fast Signs played a hard-fought game with the first place Liberty Buick winning 10-9 in a true team effort with all 11 contributing to the upset. Liberty has been dominating the white league, but in this game we grabbed the lead(2-0) in the first inning and stayed ahead or even the rest of the way until we pushed ahead the winning run the bottom of the 7th as Ray(3-4) smashed a single up the middle to finish the game and the winning streak. The 7th had started with a line drive hit by Randy VW, and with one out John Hammel sneaked a ball through the infield with pinch runner Kenny Shick racing to 3rd setting it up for the game winning hit. We didn't play perfect, but we played hard. Defensively subs Craig Warner and Gayle Hiser were strong on the left side of the infield anchoring the defense. Skip 3-3 hit well and was joined in the 3 hit parade by John Hammel(3-4, 2 RBI). Rod had a good day on the mound and was 1-2 with a walk while sub Paul Larson , Fred Jensen, Shick(3 RBI), and Warner had a pair of hits. It was a great week for Fast Signs as we beat the two teams ahead of us in the standings. We continue to hit the ball well of late, and the defense is coming around as we transition to the new year.
Liberty: Liberty GMC dropped its first contest of the season by a 10-9 margin. Liberty trailed the game until a 2 run 6th inning knotted the game at 8 heading to the bottom of the 6th. Fast Signs scored once in the 6th to take a 9-8 lead into the 7th. After scoring one run to again tie the game, Liberty yielded one run to in the bottom of the 7th to drop a one run decision. Curt Rhoades 2 for 3 with a double and 3 RBI provided a third of our runs. Dave Anthony pitched a solid game and was 3 for 4 with 2 doubles, 3 runs scored, and a RBI. Brad Johnson, Tim Schiewe with a double, and Bob Tarr with a RBI each had two hits. Becky Holliday with a RBI, Sean Baker, and Greg Martin with a walk each had one hit. Thanks to subs Bruce Lowe 2 for 4, Dave Maligro 2 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI, and Ted Schneider with a hit and RBI for helping out today. Have a great Holiday!
Canyon State 18 One Stop Tile 13
Canyon State: After securing a 10 run lead going into the bottom of the 7th, the game started to look like a rerun of a scary movie. Fresh off of giving up 5 runs on Tuesday and losing the game, we gave up 5 runs again! Fortunately we came prepared with a 10 run lead instead of a 4 run lead. Quite simple,; score more runs!!! Leading the offense was Randy Ratcliff going 4/4. Jeff Heary was 3/3 with 2 doubles. Dick Nunez, Kevin Katsuki, Greg Roehm, Chuck Frazier and Tom Yurkunas were all 3/4. Nunez, Katsuki and Roehm all had a double. Frazier had 2 doubles. Les Zirbel was 2/4 with a double. John Recob was 1/4 but what a hit it was! A grand slam that rolled to the center field wall. We didn’t need all 4 runs; but it certainly helped!!! |
|||||||
One Stop: Canyon State put up five big runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back in their victory over One Stop Tile. At the end of three, the Canyon State team lead 6-3, and that was the closest One Stop Tile could get the rest of the way. The flip-flop rule went into effect in the seventh when Canyon State went ahead 18-8. One Stop Tile managed three runs in the bottom of the seventh resulting in the final score:18-13. One Stop Tile once again fell behind early due to errors and a lack of timely hitting. With 30 hits, One Stop Tile managed only thirteen runs. Canyon State played well throughout and took advantage of opportunities. Offensively, Wayne Weidenbach collected four hits, Mark Beckner drilled two hits and scored once, Jim Opyd laced a double and a single and scored twice, John Gavazza drilled two hits (2 RBI) and scored once, Tom Gruzs pounded four hits (double, RBI) and scored four times, Dave Swanson nailed two hits (RBI) and a walk and scored once, Tim Brown was perfect at the plate with four hits (double, 4 RBI) and scored once, Murray Fairweather hammered three hits (double, 2 RBI) and scored once, Dennis Karcher ripped three hits (RBI) and scored once, sub Jim Jozwowski slapped a hit (RBI), and Dick Hansen slugged two singles (RBI) and garnered a walk. |

Regency: A beautiful afternoon at the Field of Dreams today, as Regency Specialties hung around till the end and came away with a 16-15 win. We were behind the whole game to the hard-hitting Canyon State gang, but kept plugging away and in the end prevailed with a 5 run 7th inning. Leading hitters were Gale Hiser(triple), sub-Mark Beckner, Bob Lessard, sub-Bob Tarr, and Rick Armentano with the game winning hit all 3/4 . Roger Neumann, 2/3 with a walk pitched a great game. A great team win with everyone contributing in different ways! Everyone had at least one hit. It took us all to get it done! Thanks to our subs, Dennis Vance, Mark Beckner, Kenny Wheels Shick, and Bob Tarr for pitching in. Safe travels to those gone/leaving for the Christmas break, including DW the proud Grandpa, we will be back Thursday !
Canyon State: First, I would like to congratulate the Regency team on a great comeback win. Secondly, we feel like we got a little too much in the Christmas spirit and gave away some runs that we shouldn't have. On a good note, everyone on the Canyon team had a least 2 hits. Leading the way was Steve Willoughby 4/4 with a double and a triple. Dick Nunez was 4/4 with a double and 4 runs scored. Jeff Heary was 4/4 with a double and 6 RBI's. Les Zirbel, Greg Roehm, and Randy Ratcliff were all 3/4. Greg and Randy both had doubles. Bruce Lowe, Kevin Katsuki, Chuck Frazier, Tom Yurkunas, and sub C.L. Eversman were all 2/4. Randy and C.L. both had doubles. Hopefully Thursday we will keep hitting, but be a little less giving!! |

Fast Signs 18 One Stop 10
Fast Sgins: On a sunny Tuesday afternoon our Fast Signs team had the challenge of going up against the second place One Stop Tile, and we were up to the challenge as we banged our way to a 18-10 win with an offense featuring 6 extra base hits. It was only the third loss of the year for One Stop while we pushed over 500 at 6-5. Ken Shick(3-4) started the game off with a triple as we jumped out to a 3-2 first inning lead and we never looked back. Rod's pitching kept them enough off guard that the home team could never generate a big inning. Meanwhile, ten guys had at least 2 hits for us. Ray Ray 3-3 with a walk, the white hot Randy VW4-4, and last minute sub Ted Schneider 4-4 were perfect on the day. Sub Eric Coudret(2-3) was clutch with 5 RBI's including a bases loaded triple. John, the hammer, Hammel banged a pair of doubles in a 3-4 effort. Others making only one out were Fred and Skip while sub Tim Schiewe had a pair of hits including an RBI double. Defensively, Ted was awesome at 3B and the tandem of Fred and Skip at 2B handled all their chances flawlessly.
One Stop: With the score close (4-3) at the end of the second inning, Fast Signs pulled away from One Stop Tile in the third inning (5 runs) and fourth inning (5 runs), leading 13-6 going into the sixth. Fast Signs had an excellent hitting day and found numerous holes in the One Stop Tile defense. A few mental and physical errors also contributed to One Stop’s overall performance. We know we can and will play better. In the seventh inning, Fast Signs pulled ahead 18-8 which necessitated a flip-flop, but One Stop Tile managed only two runs. The final score: 18-10 for the Fast Signs team Offensively, Wayne Weidenbach pounded a double and scored once, Mark Beckner nailed two hits (double, RBI) and scored once, Jim Opyd slapped two singles and scored twice, John Gavazza pounded three hits and scored once, Tom Gruzs slugged four hits (2 RBI) and scored twice, Dave Swanson drilled a single, Tim Brown crushed four hits (2 RBI) and scored twice, Murray Fairweather knocked three hits (2 RBI) and scored once, Dennis Karcher nailed two singles, sub Jim Jozwowski lined a single (2 RBI), and Dick Hansen ripped two singles (RBI). Thanks to Jim Jozwowski for subbing. Twenty-four hits today would normally be enough to win most games which suggests that we needed more timely hitting. We’ll do better next time! Congrats to the Fast Signs team! |

Heather: After giving up 5 runs in the top of the 1st, the Heather Van Peursem team was never in the game and lost to first place and undefeated Liberty GMC 17-9 after getting flipped in the top of the 7th. Offensively, we were led by Paul Jinneman 3/4 and 3 RBI, sub Gale Hiser 3/4 2 RBI, Howard Sumner 3/4, 2 runs and an RBI, Ted Schneider 3/4 and Danny Wood 3/4 with 3 runs and an RBI. Dan Newman had a 2/3 day with 2 RBI and Don Cole, Bud Bandfield, 2 runs and a walk, Chip Stanczak and David Power all had a hit. We had 21 hits but could only score 9 runs, not enough against the truck boys (and girl). Thanks for subbing Gale and to Don Trenda for keeping our scorebook. |

Liberty: Liberty GMC met a worthy foe on a cool December morning. Going into the bottom of the 4th Liberty GMC had a slim 7-5 lead. After that the hitting came alive and the defense played a solid game including turning 2 double plays. Leading the offense with 4 hits each were Brad Johnson (4 Runs and RBI) and Tim Schiewe (2 Runs and 3 RBIs). Contributing 3 hits each were sub Ted Schneider (2B, 4 RBIS and 3 Runs), Mitch Craun (2b and 3 RBIs), Dave Anthony (2B and 2 Runs) and Sean Baker (2B). Thanks to Ted Schneider for sub duty. |
|||||||
Regency: Regency Specialties lost to the league leading Liberty GMC today. It was a cool morning and the only thing cooler were our bats. 14 hits is not enough to compete with Bruce’s gang! We hung in through 3 innings then GMC started to pull away with a 5 spot in the 4th. Leading hitter was Dave Dompier, who continues to be very consistent at the plate, going 4/4. Sub Murray Fairweather and Paul Larson were 2/3, and Ken Krzeminski and sub Tim Brown were both 1/2 with a walk. Thanks to our many subs today, Murray, Tim, Danny Newman, Craig Warner, and Arlene Weslosky who had a nice double.
One Stop Tile 15 Heaather Van Peursem 10
One Stop: One Stop had another exciting battle, this one with Heather VP. One Stop broke out with five runs in the first and HVP came back with 3 in the 2nd inning. It was back and forth, but fortunately for One Stop, we scored five runs more over seven innings to win 15-10. One Stop has hit well for two straight games now. Leading the way was John Gavazza with 4 hits and 3 RBIs. Others with 3 for 4 were Mark Beckner, Jim Opyd, Tom Gruzs, sub Greg Roehm, Tim Brown, and Dennis Karcher. Defense was solid with Gavazza and Weidenbach making several good catches. Finally, sub catcher Laura Fenton got the final out with a good catch of a foul ball.
Heather: We made a competitive game of it as Heather Van Peursem fell to One Stop Tile 15-10. Defensively Dan Newman made some nice catches in LC, while sub Craig "don't call me Kurt" Warner had some dazzling plays at SS, Arlo "Bud" Bandfield played a great 2nd base and even the pitcher caught a "major league pop-up" hit by One Stop's Greg "Maverick" Roehm. Offensively, we failed to get some timely hits although Don Cole and Danny Wood came through, each with 2 run doubles for 4 of our 10 runs. Sub Craig, Ted Schneider (double) and Chip Stanczak all had 3 hits. Dan Newman, sub Dennis Vance, Bud Bandfield, Paul "the Gentleman" Jinneman, Danny Wood and Don Cole all had two knocks each. Many thanks to Bruce Lowe behind the plate and Chuck Frazier in the field for umpiring and the great Andrew "Andy don't call me Eddie" Campbell in the Tower. Thank you to Don Trenda for keeping our scorebook and Troy MacQueen for coaching 3rd base. . |

Canyon State 23 Fast Signs 20
Canyon: After getting steamrolled by a GMC truck on Tuesday; the insurance company returned our bats!! We exploded for 23 runs and we needed almost every one of them. Fast Signs didn’t get the memo that the game was over. They staged a valiant effort but fell 3 short. Bruce Lowe, Kevin Katsuki, Les Zirbel and Greg Roehm were all 4/4. Bruce had 2 triples, Les bombed 3 doubles, which were all crushed. Anyone who knows Les knows he’s not fleet of foot! Greg had 2 doubles, Kevin had 1 double. Dick Nunez, Jeff Heary, Chuck Frazier, and Tom Yurkunas were all 3/4. Dick had a double to deep left, Chuck had 2 doubles and just missed hitting his second homer of the season by putting a ball of the left field fence. Randy Ratcliff was 2/3. No police report was required after this game, although Fast Signs threatened to steal it!! |
|||||||
Fast Signs: For the second time this week our Fast Signs team exploded for 20 runs, but today 20 wasn't enough today as we came up against the hard hitting Canyon State squad that scored 23 in a 23-20 contest. We had 7 players that were only retired one time as we had 34 hits for the game. Making only one out were: Shick, Campbell, Jensen, Gibson, Van Wagner, Pavitt, and Wilterdink while Hammel(3-5), Armstrong(2-5, and) our sub Dave Maligro(2-4) also contributed. Skip had clutch hit after clutch hit recording 5 RBI while Randy(4) and Fred(3) were tough in the clutch also. Randy continued his recent surge with a pair of doubles among his hits, and Fred and Skip also had a two bagger. For the second game this week our offense was awesome, but the same couldn't be said for our pitching and defense as Grand Canyon put balls out of the reach of our gloves way too often. Keep up the great hitting guys and we will tighten our defense next week. Hats off to Canyon State on their excellent hitting. |

Liberty: Liberty GMC played a complete game and beat Canyon State 15-1 in a run-shortened game. Leading the offense with 3 hits each were Tim Schiewe (2B, 3 Runs & RBI), Dave Anthony (3 RBIs) and Curt Rhoades (RBI). With 2 hits and 2 RBIs each were Brad Johnson, Glen Griffin, Mitch Craun and Sean Baker. Becky Holliday had 2 hits and an RBI. Every player on the team had at least 1 hit. Liberty GMC played great defense to help pitcher Dave Anthony to another victory. Dean Schoeberl (2B) and Mitch Craun (RCF) with runners on second and third extended themselves in the second inning to make great defensive plays to keep runners from scoring. In the third inning Glenn Griffin (3B) made an extraordinary play, successfully juggling and catching a ball in foul territory while facing the outfield wall. With runners in scoring position in the 4th inning, Sean Baker (R) made a run-scoring save of a ball that would have scored runs. |
|||||||
Canyon State: "Hello police?" "I would like to report a hit and run." "Make?" "It was a GMC; didn't catch the model, there wasn't much left when it was over!!" That's what it felt like as GMC ran right over the top of Canyon State. They could't do anything wrong, we couldn't do anything right. They played great defense and hit really well. Even when they didn't hit it well, it still dropped in!! On the other side, every time we thought we had something, there would be a great running catch, or a juggling act that still produced an out. Bruce Lowe was the one bright spot going 2/3. Tom Yurkunas had the only RBI. Thank you John Bertholdy for subbing. |

Fast Signs 20 Heather Van Peursem 13
Fast Signs: The sun was an opponent of both teams Tuesday as our Fast Signs group won a 20-13 slugfest over Heather Van Peursen Realty raising our record to 5-4 as we recorded 25 hits including 4 doubles...Ray Ray caught a couple of tough sun balls but overall both teams were having trouble.with the mid afternoon sky. Offensively, Randy Van Wagner and Gibson needed no help from the sun as each pounded the ball all day on the way to a 4-4.day including a double for each..Sub Eric Coudret two hits, a SF, and walk and a team leading 4 RBI. Everybody had at least one knock- With 2 hits were Dean, Skip, Fred, and Andy while Rod, Gary, Bill, and Kenny had one each. .A nice DP in the first inning set the tone for the game as Andy snared a short hop grounder, stepped on second and fired to Armstrong at 3B. Kenny showed good range and made a couple nice catches including a shoe stringer looking into the sun from his RC position. Thanks to Dean for filling in nicely for Bill Tierney who suffered a midgame injury. We wish Bill the best,
Heather: After getting down 10-0 after two innings, Heather Van Peursem outscored the FastSigns eleven13-10 only to settle for a loss 20-13. One Stop 15 Regency 14
One Stop: In an epic battle with Regency, One Stop pulled out a victory by stopping Regency’s rally in the top of the 7th, hanging on for a 15 - 14 victory. It was back and forth most of the game. The 7th inning started with One Stop leading 15 - 10. Regency rallied for 4 runs before a pop out to shortstop Murray Fairweather ended the game. Each team hit well, giving the spectators an exciting game. Top hitters were Wayne Weidenbach 4 for 4, Mark Beckner 3 for 4 with a double, John Gavazza 3 for 4 with 2 doubles, sub Greg Roehm 3 for 4 with a double, Murray Fairweather 3 for 4, and Frank Plahutnik 3 for 4. John Gavazza and Tom Gruzs each had 3 RBIs. Thanks to sub David Brenenstahl for playing great as catcher.
Regency: Regency Specialties late inning push couldn’t quite overcome the hard hitting One Stop Tile guys on a cool afternoon. We managed 25 hits but fell one run short in a 15-14 loss. Top hitters were Paul Larson 4/4 with two doubles, Gary Kuhlman 4/4, and Ted Grove 4 /4. Sub Craig Warner was 4/5 with a double, Ken Krzeminski and sub Mitch Craun were both 3/4 . The injury bug bit us again with Jim Courtney going out. Many thanks to Danny Newman for coming in cold from the stands and Mitch Craun and Craig Warner for playing for us today. Our thoughts are with Dave and Dick and their families. See ya’ all Thursday, wear your AZ long-johns! |

Fast Signs: It was a tight battle all the way as our Fast Signs squad pounded out 31 hits but had to hang on until the very end as the tough Regency squad had the winning run at the plate when the game when Bill Tierney squeezed the last out in a 15-12 victory. Tierney along with fellow infielders Fred Jensen and Andy Campbell gobbled out most of the outs defensively including 2 DP's. Two out scoring was the name of the game as guy after Fast Signs batters had clutch hits with 2 away. Leading the RBI parade were Campbell( 4-5) and Johnny the Hammer Hammel(4-4) with 4 RBI's each and Jensen(4-5) and Gibson(3-5) had a pair of RBI's with Ray's coming on a triple that put us ahead in a 5 run 4th inning, Rod(4-4) and Shick(3-5) each scored 3 times. Huge was Van Wagner's 4-4 as he broke out of his recent slump and Skip chipped in with a 3-4 game. Thanks to Danny Wood for filling in for us and to Ted and Kris for doing their usual good job in their volunteer duties. The game was well officiated by Mark Beckner and Wayne Wiedenbach. |

Regency: Regency Specialties dropped a close game this morning to a good Rod Wilterdink coached Fast Signs team. We kept plugging away and came within 3 but couldn’t push any runs across in the 7th inning after loading the bases. A good team effort though in a fun ballgame! Leading hitters were Dave Dompier with a fantastic day at the plate, going 4/4 and missing the cycle by one hit. Sub Craig Warner was also 4/4 with 2 doubles. Jim Courtney and Bob Lessard were both 3/4. Gale Hiser was 2/3 with a walk. Rick Armentano and Gary Kuhlman both were both 2/4. Everyone had at least one hit including a bases clearing triple by Ken Krzeminski. Roger Neumann continues to pitch well and looked great sporting his new shin guards. Thanks to Smilin’ Jim Jozwowski and Craig Warner for subbing.
Liberty GMC 12 One Stop Tile 6
Liberty: First place Liberty GMC squared off against second place One Stop Tile in a tight contest until Liberty scored 4 runs in the 4th inning to put the game out of reach. Tim Schiewe 2 for 4 with a double and Brad Johnson 2 for 2 with a hit and sacrifice fly each plated 3 runs. Glenn Griffin 2 for 4 added 2 RBI. Dean Schoeberl 3 for 3 with a double, winning pitcher Dave Anthony 2 for 4 with a triple, Sean Baker 3 for 3, and Curtis Rhoades with a sacrifice fly each added a RBI. Mitch Craun had a triple and scored in the contest. Bob Tarr went 2 for3 and scored what proved to be the eventual game winner. Greg Martin 2 for 3 and Becky Holliday with a hit closed out Liberty's hit parade.
One Stop: In a contest between the first place (Liberty GMC) and second place team (One Stop Tile), neither could score much in the first two innings with Liberty GMC leading 1-0. However, Liberty GMC put up three runs in the third and four runs in the fifth while One Stop Tile only managed one run. Score: 8-1 at the end of four innings. Liberty GMC expanded its lead to 12-1 through six innings. In the top of the seventh inning, One Stop Tile finally found some holes in the Liberty defense and rallied for five runs, but still came up short. One Stop Tile’s hitting was limited (16 hits) by an excellent performance by Liberty’s pitcher Dave Anthony and its stingy defense. Final score: Liberty GMC 12, One Stop Tile 6. Offensively, Wayne Weidenbach went 1/4 with a run scored, Mark Beckner connected on three hits (double) and a sacrifice and scored once, Jim Opyd collected a hit and a walk, John Gavazza ripped two singles, Tom Gruzs pounded two singles, Dave Swanson drilled a single, Tim Brown powered three hits and scored once, Murray Fairweather slammed a double and a single and scored once, Frank Plahutnik collected a hit and a walk and scored once, and Dick Hansen ripped a single and scored once.
Canyon State 18 Heather Van Peursem 6
Canyon: Canyon State broke out their bats to mercy Heather Van Peursem. It was over early as Canyon State jumped to a 10-3 lead after 3 innings. Les Zirbel 2 doubles, Dick Nunez double, and Bruce Lowe were all 4/4. Going 3/4 were sub Jon Chlebeck double, and Greg Roehm double and a team leading 4 RBI's, plus he played lights out at shortstop. Jeff Heary double, Tom Yurkunas and John Recob were all 2/3. Sub Dave Maligro was a last minute fill in and went 2/4. Thank you to all out subs; great job guys rebounding from a tough loss.
Heather: In a game shortened to six innings via the run rule, Heather Van Peursem took it on the chin by Canyon State HVAC 18-6. In the course of 3 innings (2, 3 & 4) we went hitless through 12 batters as Canyon St. kept putting up runs in almost every inning. Offensively, with 2 hits were Dan Newman, Don Cole, Ted Schneider and sub Mark Beckner. With one hit each were Bill Parker, Paul Jinneman, Chip Stanczak, David Power, Kim MacQueen and sub Jim Jozwowski. Thank you to subs Mark and Jim. Regency: The first game back from Thanksgiving break on a beautiful afternoon was a real challenge for Regency Specialties early in the game. After scoring only 3 runs the first 3 innings against a stubborn Heather Van Peursem team, we worked off the turkey and scored 13 runs in the next three for a 16-15 victory. Gale Hiser 3/4 with a double, Jim Courtney 3/4 with a triple, Rick Armentano 2/3 with a walk and a double, Ken Krzeminski 3/4 , Paul Larson 3/4 with a double Roger Neumann 3/4 , Bob Lessard 3/4 led the hitting. Everyone had at least one hit. Good defense with one double play and several great sun-ball catches contributed to the win. Thanks to sub Todd Fletcher who was 2-2 with a great catch in left field before taking a tumble, hope the shoulder isn’t to bad Todd! And thanks to Mitch Craun for coming in cold from the stands and contributing a great triple! Good pitching by Roger Neumann although his hockey kick save skills suck. Maybe our Canadian friends could provide some instruction
Heather: In a game in which we dominated in the early innings, leading 11-3 after the top of the 4th, we scored 4 more runs while giving up 13 runs to fall to Regency 16-15. Offensively, we matched our season high in runs, but the hard hitting Skin Guys combined with some of our leaky defense spelled the doom for the HVP Realtors. Dan Newman RBI & double, led the way with 4 hits, with 3 hits each were Don F. Cole 2 RBI, Ted Schneider double & 2 RBI, sub Dennis Vance double and an RBI, Arlo "Bud" Bandfield RBI, Danny Wood 2 RBI and Paul Jinneman 2 RBI. Chip Stanzcak, David Power and Kim MacQueen all had 2 hits each. Everyone had a hit including Bill Parker with 3 RBI including a sac. fly. Many thanks to Dennis Vance for helping us out at shortstop as our super sub. While we did have some nice defensive plays, giving up 13 runs in the last 3 At Bats for Regency was our ultimate downfall. Thank you to umpires Bill Teirney and Skip Pavitt and Dave "Lefty Canuck" Anthony in the score tower. As always, big thanks to Don "healing nicely" Trenda for keeping our scorebook. |

One Stop 18 Canyon State 14
One Stop: One Stop Tile and Canyon State played an exciting see-saw battle from start to finish today! Fans watched some excellent play on offense and defense, although they also noticed some rusty action due to our Thanksgiving break as well. Nevertheless, it was great to be back on the Field of Dreams. One Stop Tile had to come from behind (14-13 for Canyon State) in the seventh inning with five huge runs (now 18-14) while holding the Canyon State sluggers to zero runs in the bottom of the seventh. Winning pitcher Dennis Karcher was locked in for most of the game, hitting the front of the plate consistently. He was backed by some outstanding defensive plays by fielders at almost every position. Rover Marvelous Mark Beckner seemingly was everywhere making plays. One play was quite unique: Pitcher Dennis the Menace Karcher ran forward to catch a short pop fly in front of him, bobbled it into the air twice and batted it into the hands of Catcher Dick Hansen. It was a funny and unusual way to get an out. Tom Gruzs (don’t call me Cruise) deserves a special mention for his 5 RBI! Final score: One Stop Tile 18 Canyon State 14. Many thanks to sub Rick Armentano and volunteer scorekeeper Sally Beckner for helping us out today! Offensively, Rick Armentano pounded four hits (2 doubles, 2 singles, 2 RBI) and scored twice, Mark Beckner ripped four hits (double, 3 RBI) and scored three runs, Jim Opyd was near-perfect at the plate (triple, 2 singles, walk) and scored three times, John Gavazza lined three singles (RBI) and scored once, Tom Gruzs banged three hits (double, 5 RBI) and two SAC flies plus three runs scored, Dave Swanson cranked four hits (RBI) and scored twice, Tim Brown drilled a double and a single (2 RBI) and collected a walk and scored once, Murray Fairweather cracked a double (2 RBI) and scored once, Dennis Karcher nailed two singles, Frank Plahutnik slammed three singles (RBI) and scored once, and Dick Hansen garnered a double (RBI) and a single and scored twice to round out the hit parade. |
|||||||
Canyon State: The sun showed up to frustrate both teams. None the less, we had a good game. In game could have gone either way as Canyon had two men on base in the bottom of the 7th, but we were unable to finish the rally. Leading hitter was Steve Willoughby 4/5 and a double. Dick Nunez, Jeff Heary, Bruce Lowe, Kevin Katsuki, and sub Jon Chlebeck were all 3/4. Jon had 2 doubles, Jeff and Kevin had one. Randy Ratliff and Tom Yurkunas were 2/4. Les Zirbel was 2/5. Thank you Jon for subbing! He also led with 5 RBI"s. |
|||||||
Liberty GMC 13 Fast Signs 8
Liberty : Liberty GMC trailed 4-3 after the first two frames but overcame the rust from a long Thanksgiving break to emerge with a 13-8 victory over Fast Signs. Bob Tarr 3 for 3 with a triple drove in one run and saved another by connecting with Becky Holliday to throw out a runner at the plate from the outfield and close out Fast Signs' 2nd inning rally. Becky 2 for 4 with a double and RBI also made another key fielding play in the 7th inning. Tim Schiewe 3 for 4, Glenn Griffin 2 for 4 with a double, Mitch Craun 2 for 4 with a double, winning pitcher Dave Anthony 3 for 4 with a double, and Sean Baker 3 for 4 with a triple each plated 2 runs. Dean Schoeberl 2 for 4 with a RBI continued to sparkle in the field. Brad Johnson and Curtis Rhoades each added two hits; and Greg Martin had a hit and scored in the 4 run 4th inning that put the game out of reach.
Fast Signs: Our Fast Signs team went up against first place Liberty Buick and came out on the short end of a 13-8 game. Our defense was highlighted by a couple of tough stops by Armstrong at the hot corner including a DP. Andy Campbell and Fred Jensen were busy up the middle and converted most into outs and Kenny Shick made another running catch as he is in the habit of doing. The top of the order hit well as Shick had 4 hits in as many tries, Andy found the hole 3 out of four times. With two hits plus a walk was Jensen, Skip 2-3, and John Hammel 2-4, It was nice to have Bill Tierney back on the and he chipped in a hit and 2 RBI while Armstrong had our lone EBH(2B).Eric Courdet subbed and had a nice all around game including a hit and flashing his speed.Give credit to Liberty Buick as good defense limited some potential Fast Signs rallies. |

Regency: WE WON! Regency Specialties put it all together today for a decisive win over Canyon State. Starting out steady with 2 runs each of the first 3 innings, including a triple by Jim Courtney in the first, we were never behind in the ballgame. The final score was 13-8. Leading hitters were Dave Dompier 3/4 , Bob Lessard and Ted Grove both 2/3. Several players were 2/4 and everyone had a hit in a well balanced offense that included timely hitting and good situational base running. Defensively we played our best game of the year, lots of highlights that held Canyon State to just 4 runs in the first 6 innings, including 2 crucial catches in deep, deep left field by Gary Kuhlman. A great game turned in by pitcher Roger Neumann! Thanks to Kenny Schick for coming in cold when Jim Courtney pulled a hammy. Wishing everyone a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!
Canyon: Canyon State's troubles continue! Our defense improved but today our bats went quiet. Too many fly balls when we needed a hit. Kudos to the Regency team who played well on both sides of the ball to record their first win. Les Zirbel was a perfect 4/4, Greg Roehm was 3/4 and had a home run. Tom Yurkunas was 2/3. Dick Nunez, Jeff Heary, Bruce Lowe, and Kevin Katsuki were all 2/4. Hopefully over the break we will remember both our bats and our gloves! |

One Stop 12 Fast Signs 5 | |||||||
One Stop: Wow! The score through two innings was 0-0 and the score through three innings was 1-1! Both teams were playing great defense and the One Stop Tile guys had already turned two double plays. The Fast Signs team was just as stingy. At last, One Stop Tile broke through with two runs in the fourth, four runs in the fifth and five runs in the sixth to stretch its lead to 12-2 which ended up as the final score. One Stop Tile team appreciated the numerous contributions in the field and at bat (see below) by subs Rick Armentano and Tim Schiewe. Although One Stop Tile made a few errors today, the middle infield (Fairweather, Beckner and Gruzs) helped us overcome them with four double plays, the corner infielders of Frank Plahutnik and Dave Swanson made several excellent plays and the outfielders made some critical catches. Winning pitcher Dennis Karcher pitched his usual masterful game. Offensively, sub Rick Armentano drilled two singles and score twice, Mark Beckner smacked a perfect 4/4 with a double and a triple (RBI) while scoring twice, sub Tim Schiewe ripped four singles (three RBI) and scored twice, Jim Opyd lined two singles and scored twice, Tom Gruzs hammered a single and a double (3 RBI) and scored once, Dave Swanson cracked a single and a double (RBI) and scored once, Tim Brown pounded a single (RBI) and scored once, Murray Fairweather continued his hot streak with three singles in as many at bats, Frank Plahutnik slammed a two-run double and Dennis Karcher ripped a single and scored. Happy Thanksgiving, Everyone! |
|||||||
Fast Signs: One Stop Tile used 4 double plays to squelch any possible rally that our Fast Signs had Thursday as they beat us 12-2. It was actually a pitchers duel, i.e, defensive battle at 3-1 in the fifth inning when the wheels fell off for us. We had numerous good infield plays in the game and Randy and Brian each made a nice play in the outfield. Kenny Shick was 3-3 and Ray Ray went 2-3. Five batters only got to bat twice with Rod, Brian, sub Brad Johnson, and Skip managing a hit in their two at bats. Credit to One Stop Tile for excellent defense. Thanks to Brad for subbing and playing a good SS.
Liberty GMC 14 Heather Van Peursem 2
Liberty : Liberty GMC yielded 2 runs in the top half of the 1st inning and shut out Heather Van Peursem in the remainder of the run-shortened game en route to a 14-2 victory. Tim Schiewe 3 for 3 with a sac fly drove in 4 runs, including the game ender. Winning pitcher Dave Anthony with a triple and eventual game winning RBI, Dean Schoeberl with a hit and a walk, and Glenn Griffin 3 for 3 with a double each plated two runs. Brad Johnson 2 for 3 with a walk, Matt Craun 2 for 3, Curt Rhoades 3 for 3, and sub Jim Jozwowski with a hit and walk each added a RBI. Sean Baker and Becky Holliday each went 2 for 3 on the day. Greg Martin had one hit and would have had two more but for strong outfield catches; Greg returned the favor by making two shoe string catches of his own to shut down potential rallies. Liberty closed out the pre-Thanksgiving portion of the schedule with a perfect 6-0 record and One Stop Tile just a game behind. |
|||||||
Heather: The HVP eleven lost to Liberty GMC today on a really nice autumn day at the Field of Dreams via the mercy rule 14-2 in only 5 innings. Offensively, Don Cole and David Power were a perfect 2/2 and Dan Newman had 2 hits and made a couple of nice catches in RF. Ted Schneider (RBI), Chip Stanczak and Danny Wood all added a hit. Howard Sumner and David Power both made some great catches in the OF. Thank you to subs Craig Warner and John Chlebeck. Thanks to Bill Teirney and Rod "Winkerdink" for umpiring and The Karch in the tower. Sorry to say, We didn't keep our scorebook operator Don Trenda very busy. Hope everyone enjoys the week long break to find our hitting shoes. |

Liberty: In another tightly fought contest, Liberty GMC beat Regency Specialties by a final score of 17 to 15. Regency scored 6 runs in the last 2 innings to make the game interesting. Sub Craig Warner (SS) ended the game by starting a double play. Every player on Liberty GMC had at least 1 hit. Regency: Regency Specialties played a good ballgame today, losing to Liberty GMC by a score of 17-15. Both teams battled the afternoon sun. We made great gains offensively, doubling our production from last week. With a total of 25 hits we came up just a bit short. Leading hitters were Gale Hiser and Rick Armentano both 4/4 , Ken Krzeminski was 3/4. Nearly every other player was 2/4. This was the first game of the season we had a complete team and no subs.
Fast Signs 21 Canyon State 9
Fast Signs: Our Fast Signs team knew that we had to score a lot of runs against the hard hitting Canyon State team and we certainly did posting 21 runs in just 5 innings winning by the mercy rule 21-9. Everyone had at least 2 hi2t and runs plus at least one RBI. RBI leader was Gary Armstrong(3) who also played a good 3B. Also on defense, Andy Campbell had a great game at rover and Hammel fielded a sharp grounder at 1B and Randy Van Wagner are Kenny Shick showed good range on a couple catches. Offensive numbers are as follows: Kenny 3-4. Andy 3-4, John 4-4, Fred 4-4, Randy 2-3 BB, Ray 2-2 BB, Skip 3-3. Gary 3-3, Sub Jim Opyd 2-2 BB. Brian 3-3, and Rod 3-3. Granted the sun was a factor, but only 3 official outs is amazing. Kris Koch again was great on the book while husband Ted did a very good job keeping track of pinch runners in between helping out the runners at 3B. Efficient job by Bob Lessard and Roger Neumann umpiring.
Canyon State: The mercy rule was definitely needed as Fast Sign took advantage of the sun to run away with the game which was 6-5 after 2. The Canyon bats were still going, but we could not overcome giving Fast Signs more than 3 outs per inning. Leading Canyon in hitting were Steve Willoughby and Dick Nunez going 3/3. Kevin Katsuki continued his hot hitting going 2/2 and a walk. Les Zirbel, Bruce Lowe, Chuck Frazier and Tom Yurkunas were all 2/3. We will try again Thursday. Thank you Eric Coudret for subbing. |
|||||||
One Stop Tile 12 Heather 5

Brad Johnson went 3 for 4 with a double and scored three times. Becky Holliday went 3 for 3 and scored twice, including the eventual game winner.
Canyon State: Canyon State ran into the buzz saw that is Liberty. Liberty both hit and fielded well. But in the end despite a subpar performance by many of the Canyon hitters, we still had the tying run at the plate in the bottom of the 7th. Perfect at the plate were Randy Ratcliff 3/3 and Kevin Katsuki 2/2. Steve Willoughby, sub Paul Johne, Dick Nunez, sub Craig Warner, and Bruce Lowe were all 2/4. Johne and Warner both had triples. Tom Yurkunas 1/3 had a double. |
|||||||
Fast Signs 15 Heather Van Peursem 9
Fast Signs: Our Fast Signs squad picked up their second straight win with a 15-9 victory over Heather Van Peursem Realty. It was a true team win with everyone contributing to the offense and defense. Tied 7-7 after 3 innings, we took the lead with a 3 run 4th highlighted by a Wayne Wiedenbach(3-4) double and then we added 4 more in the 5th with Weidenbach again having honors with a triple opening up a 14-7 lead. Kenny Shick(3 RBI) again starred in the OF and leadoff spot as he got on base 3 times while Randy Van Wagner was a perfect 3-3 plus a walk adding a nice shoestring catch in right. Fred Jensen has his best defensive game of the year also hit 3 line drives going 3-4. Andy Campbell was his usual 3-4 and Skip was 2-3 with a walk. Brian Martin and Ray Gibson each contributed 2 hits with Brian adding a walk. Lastly sub Craig Warner(2RBI), Rod Wilterdink, and Gary Armstrong each had a hit and Armstrong also worked his way to a base on balls.

After we held them scoreless in the 1st inning they proceeded to score in every inning to take the win. Offensively, we had 3 players perfect at the plate going 3/3, Howard Sumner, David Power and Chip Stanczak. Dan Newman, Ted Schneider, Don Cole and Sub Dave Maligro all added 2 hits. Newcomer sub Jeff Tucker was hitless, but hit the ball hard, scored a run and had 2 RBI and played a great 1st base. Kim MacQueen scored a run and had an RBI as did Paul Jinneman (RBI). Defensively, SS Chip Stanczak made some nice plays as did Howard Sumner in RCF. Thanks to umpires Roger "don't call me Dan" Neuman and Jim Courtney for calling a great game and Sean Baker in the tower. Thanks again to Don Trenda for keeping our books and the birthday boy and injury recovering Billy Parker for the team support and coaching of 3rd base. |

One Stop Tile 11 Regency Specialties 5
One Stop: After a scoreless first inning, One Stop Tile put up five big runs in the second inning, taking a 5-0 lead. Regency Specialities bounced back with three runs in the bottom of the third, but still trailed 6-3. At the end of four innings, One Stop Tile took a 7-3 lead, but the dangerous Regency Specialties team was still within striking distance. However, One Stop Tile added to their lead in the fifth and sixth Innings going ahead 11-5 which was the final score at the end of seven innings. Winning pitcher Dennis Karcher was supported with a strong defensive effort (two double plays and seven fielder’s choices) which helped keep Regency Specialties at bay. Wayne Weidenbach and Dave Swanson made important long ball catches in the outfield, and Tim Brown fired a relay to Tom Gruzs who fired a one-hop strike to John Gavazza at third to nail a fast runner trying to advance. It was a good day for our defense. Offensively, Wayne Weidenbach had a perfect 4/4 day at the plate and scored once, Mark Beckner lined a single, Jim Opyd collected a walk and scored once, John Gavazza smashed three hits (single, double, triple, three RBIs) and scored once, Tom Gruzs ripped two singles and scored twice, Downtown Tim Brown pounded two singles and a triple (RBI) and scored twice, Dandy Dave Swanson also slammed two singles and a triple and scored twice, Frank The Tank Plahutnik nailed two singles and scored once, Dick Hansen slapped two singles and scored once, and Dennis Karcher connected on three singles. Timely hitting played a big part in securing this win. |

Thanks to Subs Dennis Vance, Craig Warner, and Dean Schoeberl for filling in for us today. |

Canyon State 17 Heather Van Peursem 10
Canyon State: Canyon State got off to an early lead and although Heather Van Peursem played hard, they were not able to catch up. Canyon State had a very balanced hitting attack lead by Bruce Lowe 4/4 (2B), sub Paul Johnnie 3/4, Dick Nunez 3/4, sub Tim Schiewe 3/4 (2B), Kevin Katsuki 3/4 (2 doubles), Eric Coudret 3/4, Chuck Frazier 2/3 (2B), Tom Yurkunas 2/3, and Greg Roehm 2/4 (2B). Thank you to all our subs!! |
|||||||
Heather: The Canyon State HVAC'ers scored in every inning to take a 17-10 win over the out-manned, out-hit and out-defended Heather Van Peursem team. We didn't play a bad game, only an inefficient game as we scored in every inning but one, however, we put up only one run in 5 different innings. Offensively, Dan Newman (fresh off the IL) was 4/4 with 2 RBI as was Bud Bandfield 4/4 also with 2 RBI. Close behind with 3 hits were Chip Stanczak and Danny Wood while the injured Billy Parker and replacement Curt Rhoades together also had 3 hits. With 2 hits were Ted Schneider, Kim MacQueen, sub Kenny Shick (thanks for subbing), Don Cole (also perfect at the plate 2/2 and 2 walks). Everyone had a hit including David Power and Paul Jinneman. Thank you to "Fast" Eddie Campbell for filling in for Curt as umpire when Curt filled in for Billy after the nasty bad hop at 1st base. Thank you Don Trenda for keeping our scorebook. |

Fast Signs 15 Regency 2 | |||||||
Fast Signs: Our Fast Signs team broke out of our early season slump in a big way earning out first win of the season coasting to a 15-2 score in a 6 inning game. A five run 4th inning capped off by a Bruce Lowe triple opened up a 9-1 lead and good defense the rest of the day made sure that the lead held up. In the 6th, Kenny Shick hit a grand slam to remove any doubt in the outcome. Defensively, two double plays killed potential rallies. The impressive one was Randy VW corralling a fly ball in RF and rifling a throw to Andy at 1B to double off the runner and the other was Ray Gison taking a throw from the mound and throwing to first. Also, sub Mark Beckner was "roving" all over making plays left and right. Hitting?- We had hitting up and down the order with the bottom four going 10-12. Perfect on the day going 3-3 were Rod Wilterdink, Fred Jensen, Gary Armstrong(2B), and Beckner. Kenny and Andy were each retired just once and Randy went 2-4 with 2 RBI. We now have a 1-2 record going into Thursday's game.
Regency: Well, we have all been there, today it was us who couldn’t buy a hit. 13 total hits doesn’t translate to many runs, as Regency Specialties was mercied by Fast Signs in 6 innings 14-2. Sub Dave Maligro was 3/3, followed by Mitch Craun and Dave Dompier 2/3. A few other hits sprinkled here and there. We will be back Thursday! Thanks to subs David Maligro, Mitch Craun and Wayne Weidenbach. |

One Stop Tile 14 Canyon State 13
One Stop : Visiting Canyon State came out strong in the first inning with five runs while One Stop Tile struggled to find their defensive footing. However, One Stop Tile did score one run in the bottom of the first. In the second inning, both teams reversed what happened in the first and the score was tied 6-6. Neither team could score in the third as both defenses stiffened. Canyon State scored two runs in the fourth and fifth innings and held One Stop Tile scoreless for three straight innings. The score was 10-6 going into the sixth. The Tile guys managed two runs in the bottom of the sixth and still trailed 10-8. Hard-hitting Canyon State then responded with three more runs in the top of the seventh, now leading 13-8 going into the bottom of the seventh. The One Stop Tile team then put together an impressive rally as follows: Dick Hansen (single), Dennis Karcher (single), Wayne Weidenbach (walk), Mark Beckner (RBI single), Jim Opyd (walk), John Gavazza (three-run double), Murray Fairweather (walk), and Tom Gruzs (two-run single). John Gavazza scored the winning run with some savvy base running. Defensively, Mark Beckner threw runners out at second and third bases, Jim Opyd made critical catches in right center, and Frank Plahutnik turned a double play stepping on first base and firing a strike to home plate to beat the runner coming from third. Dennis Karcher, pitching with excellent accuracy, won his second close game in a row. Offensively, Wayne Weidenbach ripped a single and triple while collecting a walk and scoring twice, Mark Beckner nailed a single and scored once, Jim Opyd cracked two singles and gathered a walk and scored once, John Gavazza slammed two singles and a double and scored twice, Murray Fairweather slapped a single and picked up a walk, Tom Gruzs banged two singles and scored once, Tim Brown rapped two singles and scored once, Dave Swanson drilled two singles and scored once, Frank Plahutnik lined a single and scored once, Dick Hansen went 3/3 with two runs scored, and Dennis Karcher connected on two singles while scoring twice. In this contest, One Stop Tile put together a balanced attack when they needed it most. Thanks to Becky Holliday for keeping our scorebook for most of the game. |

Canyon State: After winning a come from behind game Tuesday, Canyon State got to experience the other side. We started out with a 5 running first inning with the big hit coming from a Jeff Heary 4/4 (3B) triple with the bases loaded knocking in 3. Canyon missed a golden opportunity in the second when a runner got thrown out at the plate with the big bats coming up. One Stop clawed their way bask, but Canyon State took a 5 run lead going into the bottom of the 7th. Not only did One Stop over come the deficit, they did it by recording 0 outs! On one hand, we felt like we gave the game away. On the other hand, One Stop took it from us! Other hitters were Bruce Lowe 4/4 (3B), Greg Roehm 3/4, Kevin Katsuki 3/4 (3B), Dick Nunez 2/3, Tom Yurkunas 2/3, John Recob 2/3, Chuck Frazier 2/4, Randy Ratcliff 2/4, Steve Willoughby 2/4 (2B), and Les Zirbel 1/4 (2B). |

Heather Van Peursem 15 Regency 8
Heather: On a windy day at the Del Webb Field of Dreams, the previously winless (ok, we lost one game) Heather Van Peursem team prevailed for the win 15-8 against Regency Specialties in a 6 inning game. We hit the ball today as a team with 24 hits in only 35 AB's for a .686 BA. We put the game out of reach with 5 spots in the 3rd and 4th innings. Don Cole and Paul "gentleman" Jinneman led our offensive slugfest. Don was 3/3 with a 3B, scored 3 runs and had 3 RBI. Paul added a 3/3 day, scoring 3 times and adding an RBI. Last minute sub Craig "don't call me Kurt" Warner was 4/4 with 3 RBI and sub Paul Johne had 2 hits and an RBI (thanks for subbing guys). Everyone on the team had a hit and scored or had RBI's. Billy Parker, Arlo "call me Bud" Bandfield (double and 3 RBI), David Power (2 RBI), Kim MacQueen (RBI) and Chip Stanczak all had 2 hits. Winning pitcher Ted Schneider added a hit and an RBI. Defensively, 2nd baseman Kim MacQueen had a career game tallying 12 assists or putouts. Overall we played good defense holding a well managed Brian Holliday team to only 8 runs. Teammate Dan Newman (IL) was a great 3rd base coach, waving in all 15 runs. Many thanks to umpires Bruce Lowe and Jeff Heary and tower operation Greg "the Maverick" Roehm. Really big thanks to "Kris "birthday girl" Koch for keeping another perfect scorebook. |

Regency: Regency Specialties fell short today on a windy, dusty, late morning. We just couldn’t get the bats going against DW’s Heather Van Peursem team. Leading hitters were Gale Hiser, Kenny K (Krzeminski) and Jim Courtney all 3/4. Dave Dompier, sub Arlene Weslosky and Roger Neumann were 2/3. Thanks Arlene for subbing this week. We will be back at it next Tuesday, everyone have a safe weekend and make sure and thank our Veterans next Monday!
Liberty GMC 16 Fast Signs 5
Liberty: Liberty GMC gave up 2 runs in each of the first two innings and 1 more in the 6th as the team coasted to a 16-5 victory over Fast Signs. Hitting (27 for 40 with 16 runs) and fielding (with three rally killing double plays) were again strong. Becky Holliday 4 for 4, Curt Rhoades 3 for 4 and Mitch Craun 3 for 4 with a double each drove in 3 runs. Winning pitcher Dave Anthony had 2 RBI on the day. Sean Baker 4 for 4 with a triple and Greg Martin 2 for 2 with a walk had a perfect day at the plate. Dean Schoeberl with a triple and 3 runs scored, Tim Schiewe, and Glenn Griffin were each 3 for 4 with a RBI. Brad Johnson and Bob Tarr each added a RBI. |
|||||||
Fast Signs: Our Fast signs ran into a buzz saw as our bats were as cold as the weather in our 8:30 game and we lost to a strong Liberty Buick team 16-5. After we scored 2 in the top of the first, Liberty maxed out at 5 in the bottom of the first and never looked back. You don't manage many wins in this league with 14 hits and our scoring opportunities were further restricted by 3 double plays. What offense we had was led by Andy Campbell will a 3-3 day while Ray Gibson, Brian Martin, and Skip Pavitt each has a pair of knocks. Martin and Ken Schick had a pair of RBI's. Special kudos to Kris Koch who kept a perfect book with cold hands in a cold breeze. |

One Stop Tile 10 Fast Signs 9
One Stop : Like all the games today, this one was also a nail-biter with a solid One Stop Tile team edging a fine Fast Signs team 10-9. Winning pitcher, Dennis Karcher, was backed by numerous excellent defensive plays by Frank Plahutnik, Tom Gruzs, Mark Beckner, Murray Fairweather, John Gavazza, and Wayne Weidenbach. One Stop Tile led the whole game with Fast Signs nipping at their heels 4-3, 7-3, 7-5, 8-7, 10-7 and finally 10-9. With two runners on in the bottom of the seventh and two outs, Fast Signs slugger Gary Armstrong ripped a hot, sinking line drive down the left field line, but One Stop Tile Rover Mark Beckner snagged the blast on the run to save the win for the One Stop Tile team. Very exciting game! Offensively, Wayne Weidenbach cracked two hits and scored once, Mark Beckner drilled three singles and scored once, Jim Opyd banged two hits and scored once, John Gavazza ripped three singles and scored twice, Murray Fairweather nailed two singles, a RBI and scored once, Tom Gruzs slugged a single, SAC fly, triple and scored twice; Tim Brown pounded a double, a SAC fly and a single; Dave Swanson hammered three singles, Frank Plahutnik lined a single and scored once, and Dick Hansen collected two singles and two RBI. Third base coach Bill Tierney did a fine job directing traffic at the hot corner. The victory was an all-around team effort for the One Stop Tile team today. |
|||||||
Fast Signs: In a game that saw very good plays on defense as well as some early season bobbles, our Fast Signs team fell one short losing 10-9 to One Stop. We looked like we were going to pull it out with a rally in the bottom of the 7th as we had the bases loaded when the last out was made with the winning run on 2B and tying run at 3B. Kenny Schick, Randy Van Wagner, and Andy Campbell led the offense going 3-4 while Ray Gibson, sub Craig Warner , Brian Martin, Gary Armstrong, Jeff Watson, and Skip Pavitt had a pair of hits. Defensively, Armstong played a very impressive 3B and Warner turned a DP from his SS position while both Schick and Martin made running catches in the OF.
Canyon State 18 Regency
Canyon State: Canyon State exploded out of the box behind an inning ending line drive home run over the left center field fence by Chuck Frazier 1/4. Canyon took a commanding 7-0 lead after 2 innings behind solid defense which included double from Dick Nunez 3/4 double to Les Zirbel 4/4 to Frazier. ihe game turned into a war from that point on as Regency put together back to back 5 run innings and ran up 17 runs over the last 5 innings. Regency was able to take a 17-16 lead in the top of the 7th. Randy Ratcliff 2/3 opened the bottom of the 7th with a single. Tom Yurkunas 2/3 double followed with another single. Pitcher John Recob 2/3 double walked to load the bases with no outs. Steve Willoughby 2/3 forced Ratcliff at home. Next, Zirbel hit a sacrafice fly to right to tie the score. This brought Nunez up. Regency considered walking him to load the bases to set up a force out at any base. However, this would bring up Jeff Heary 2/4 who is the highest rated player on the team, led the white league in home runs last session, and he had just lined a foul ball off the fence his previous at bat. They decided to pitch to Nunez who proceeded to hit a line drive single to center field to win the game. Nunez led the team with 4 runs batted in. Kevin Katsuki was 3/3 with a double, Greg Roehm was 3/4, and Bruce Lowe was 1/4. It was a great comeback team win in a game that easily could have gone either way. If this is any indication, it should be an exciting season. |
|||||||
Regency: The first game of the first day of Fall White League! What a barn burner! Our Regency Specialties team put up a great fight, coming up one run short in a high scoring, exciting game! 32 hits in an 18-17 loss makes for a great game even if we were on the losing end. Hats off to Canyon State for outlasting us. Every Player had at least one hit. Regency had several players with perfect plate appearances, including Kenny K (Krzminski) 5-5, Jim Courtney 5-5, Dave Dompier 4/4, Mike Wunsch 4/4. Gale Hiser was 3/5, Bob Lessard 3/4. Ted Grove, Paul Larson, and Roger Neumann were 2/4. Great defense with several exciting plays turned in, including a kick save from Roger to a very alert Arlene Weslosky for a critical out at first base. Thanks to Arlene Weslosky for subbing for us today.
Liberty GMC 15 Heather Van Peursem 13

Also contributing were Dean Schoeberl, Mitch Craun and sub Rod Wilterdink with 3 hits and 1 RBI each. Every player on the team had at least one hit. Liberty GMC also played a good defensive game. In the 2nd inning, Sean Baker (R) flipped to Dean Schoerbel at 2B and then on to Curt Rhoades at 1st for a double play. In the third inning Dean Schoerbel jumped for a line drive and doubled the runner off first for an inning ending double play. In the 5th inning, Tim Schiewe (LCF) fielded a grounder and threw the runner coming from first out at 2B to end the inning and keep the runner on 3B from scoring. Thanks to Rod Wilterdink for sub duty. |

Heather: On a beautiful Opening Day at the Field of Dreams, HVP came up a couple of runs short in the bottom of the 7th and lost to Liberty GMC 15-13. Scoring 13 runs, we had a chance to win but defensively, we gave up 8 runs in the last two innings and it was just too much to overcome although we made a respectable game of it by scoring 4 in the last inning. We were led offensively by LF Danny Wood 4/4, 3 runs and 2 RBI with a double. Following very closely with 3 hits each were RCF Howard Sumner, 2 runs, super sub 1B Paul Johne, 2 runs, P Ted Schneider, 2 runs, 2 RBI with a double, RF Paul Jinneman, a run and 3 RBI with a late inning triple. C Billy Parker had 2 hits with a double, a run and 2 RBI and 2B Kimberlee MacQueen had 2 hits. Everyone joined the hit parade including new players SS Bud Bandfield, a run and 3B Chip Stanczak also scored a run. R Don Cole 2 RBI and a sac. fly, LCF David Power burned 'em with a double and 2 RBI. Defensively, we had great plays by newcomers Chip and Bud and the always reliable Ted "no screen" Schneider on the mound. Thanks to Tom Gruzs and John Gavazza for umpiring, Dave Swanson in the tower and extra thanks to Kris Koch for keeping our scorebook. |
