Thank you to all of the players on Char Wheeler, it was a great session.. Char scored 21 runs on 26 hits. Thank you to our subs which all had huge contributions today: Al Caillouette with 4 hits and 4 RBI’s, Matt Salinger 4-4 with 6 RBI’s, Ken Silva 4-4 with 3 RBI’s. . Thank you Don Ranieri and Ralph McKeever for umpire duties and Bob Kloehn in the tower. Safe travels to all of you going away next week.
Robs take: Our dream of a victory parade down Bell Road was snuffed out today, despite a valiant 7th inning rally that would have made any mother proud. Congratulations to Char Wheeler on winning the title. You deserve it. Thank you to Craig for subbing, to umpires Don and Ralph M, and to stretch in the tower.
PAUL TONE 17 HAPPY EARS 16
Pauls take: What a way to end the week. Being behind 13/3, after 3rd inning then pulling out a 17/16 victory over a very good Happy Ears Team. The entire team hit well ! Leading the way was Pete Houghton 5/5 with 2 RBIs, Bob Winkler 4/4 with 2 RBIs, Dave Fasaro 4/5 with 2 RBIs, Vern McLain, Jeff Nickerson and Tom Rinehart with 3 hits each. Great job guys. Thanks to the umpires and scorekeeper for battling out on a windy day.
Jeffs take: Well the old adage “ it’s now you start the race but how you finish” came to bite the Happy Ears team today. After three innings Happy Ears led Paul Tome 13-3 and then the roof caved in, highlighted by a 6 run bottom of seventh for Beckers Bombers. Final score 17-16. Al Caillouette and John Boland each had 4 hits including two triples for John. Jim McDonald continued his torrid hitting with another three hit performance as did Chip Robertson and our subs Dave Lawrence and Dave Archer. Bob Kloehn and JD Dilree each had two hits as did Brad Brulotte. Congratulations to Eric and Pete’s Char Wheeler team for winning the red league fall session. Great job!
GENERAL EXTERMINATING 26 SUSY’S HOME CLEANING 25
Chucks take: The General Exterminating Team won a close one against Susy’s Home Cleaning by just one run. Both squads had exceptional outings. The game was tied at 13 by the end of the 5th frame. The Bug Zappers then tallied a nickel in the 6th while blanking the House Cleaners. So, entering the open frame, we enjoyed a 13 to 18 lead. Lisa and Jerry’s hard hitting group took Umbridge to that and proceeded to plate 12 runs now enjoying a 25 to 13 lead. With the hammer, we immediately answered with 2 runs, but followed that with 2 quick outs. Playing small ball the rest of the frame, we managed to tally another 6 runs necessary to earn us a 26 to 25 win. The Bug Zappers hit production was 38. It took all 10 players to squeak this one out! Big 5 hit days included Jay Schirpke and Dave Fleck followed by 4 knock efforts by Craig Nelson, Dave Dorn, Moondoggie Anderson, and Gary Ambruz. JC Cowen, Dale Halder, Randy Cihlar and Terry Graves chimed in with their 3 hit performances. Thanks umps and scoreboard keeper!
Jerrys novel: On a day where the persistent wind won its contest against the bright sun to make it feel cool throughout the game, the persistent General Exterminating team won the final game of the day against a very competitive Suzy’s Home Cleaning team. At the end of the first inning, Chuck’s and Moondogs’ guys jumped out to a big lead in the first inning by scoring 5 runs to Suzy’s 1 run. But Suzy’s battled their way back by scoring 5 in both the second and third innings to tie the game at 11. Suzy’s offense then went cold and scored only 2 runs in the next three innings and fell behind 13 to 18. But as the thirsty Thursday crowd has now come to expect, you can’t write off Suzy’s in the last inning. Suzy’s put on an offensive show by sending 16 batters to the plate, racking up 12 hits and scored 12 runs. Suzy’s held a 25 to 18 lead going into the bottom of the seventh inning. But the Exterminators were tougher to stamp out than termites. General scored a couple runs quickly, but Suzy’s also was able to record 2 outs. Unfortunately for the cleaning crew, that final out was unattainable. A base clearing hit to right field scored three runs to secure the win 26 to 25. 25 runs and 41 hits were Suzy’s highest totals of the season, but they were still unable to come away with the win. Every member of Suzy’s team had at least 3 hits and the offense was led by Ed Bauman and Ken Silva who went 5 for 5, Rick Pearson went 4for 4, and Lloyd Newlands and Dave Lawrence went 5 for 6. Suzy’s spilt the season contests with a 2 and 2 record against General this session. Thank you to Chip Robertson for umpiring behind the plate, JD Dillree for umpiring the bases and to Jim McDonald who’s fingers were probably cramping trying to keep up with all of the seventh inning runs on the scoreboard.
