The entire Red League family thanks Dave and Cindy Fusaro and friends for spearheading an incredible feast on Thursday afternoon.
*********************************************
THIS FROM DAVE AND CINDY FUSARO:
It would be hard to mention everyone that was involved by name because there were so many of you that helped out, so we would just like to thank everyone who brought something and all of you that offered to bring things also to the folks that helped serve and clean up afterwards, and also a shout out to the margarita and other cocktail bars…what an added bonus. We are proud to be members of this softball community and wish you all a great summer stay healthy and cherish everyday so we can do this again next year. Dave and Cindy.
GAME REPORTS
HAPPY EARS 16 WHITEOUT 7
Jeffs take: Now hear this! Now hear this! The Happy Ears Hearing Center team ( no pun intended) has won two in a row! Maybe it was the lure of Fusaro’s fish fry (again no pun intended). Whatever the reason, timely hitting and near errorless softball all added up to a 16-7 win over Vern and John’s Whiteout team. This was only the second game this session that we did not put up a goose egg in at least one inning. Couple this with the Whiteout team not scoring in the last four innings and you have the recipe for success. Outstanding defensive plays were turned in by Gary “ZZ” Finer as he caught a sinking line drive with a shoestring catch and then threw to first to double off the runner. Scott Kibby got into the act with an over the shoulder catch in short left field and he finished it off with a very nice tuck and roll! Our subs of Rob Carey, Roger Guth and Bob Kloehn were a combined 8/12 with one of Carey’s hits being a solo shot over the right center field wall. Multiple hits from the non subs came from Greg Allseitz, Randy Cihlar, Dave Fleck, John Blevins and the coach. The Happy Ears team will put their modest two game win streak on the line as they do battle with Eric and Pete’s first place Char Wheeler team. Game time 11:00 Thanks to everyone who contributed to the post game buffet today, with a special thanks to the fish frying squad. Have a safe weekend and please keep Linda and Craig Nelson in your thoughts.
Verns take: Another great day at the Field of Dreams. The Whiteout team played Jeff and Dennis’s Happy Ears guys and our bats were taking a rest day as we put up way too many Zeros. Early on we had too many fly outs and Happy Ears had an early 7-2 lead after 2. We answered in 3 to tie it briefly, but the boys on the other side were finding holes and extended the lead to 14 to 7 after 4. We were primed for the comeback OR could we smell the fish fry occurring as we went silent in the last 4 innings? Leading us were Terry G and Sub Dave Archer both 3- 3 with a double each, followed by Jay S with a 3-4 day and a inside the park HR, Ed B was 2-3 and 2 RBIs, Ed H 2-4 with a double and 2 RBIs and Jeff N with a 2-4. Defensively we played well , outfielders made some good catches and some great catches by Brad at short and Ed H, but the Happy Ears guys were finding spots and we had trouble getting outs. Thanks to our subs Dave A, Lee L and Nico. Thanks to the umps, Eric S and Rick P and the score tower person( I think I saw multiple people helping out.) Tom R thanks for keeping our book. Safe travels home to Rob White who departs back to Canada for the summer…. it was fun playing with you. And Finally just for the HALIBUT, thanks to Dave F and the fish fry gang. Outstanding job by everyone who contributed !!
CHAR WHEELER 13 GOTHIC LANDSCAPING 12
Erics take: Another beautiful day at the ball park. Thank you to all those that made all the wonderful treats. Char came out of the gate slow today with an 8-2 deficit after 2 innings. Tommy Gibans held Gothic to 4 runs the rest of the way while Char scored 11th a for a 13-12 nail biter. Top of the order for Char was outstanding. With four hits each Pete Semenak, JC Cowan, Matt Seeliger and Dal Haler (Dale with a walk off hit in the bottom of the 7th). With 3 hits for Char-Scott Kibby, Dave Fleck and Tom Gibans. Thanks to our subs Scott Kibby, Frank Sandomenico and Dave Fleck.
Randys take: Another close game but Gothic came out with the silver medal. Nothing wrong with a silver medal in a world class tournament! Gothic came flying out of the gate with a seven hit 1st inning, scored 5, and held Char to 2. Gothic had a 8-2 lead after 2 but added a couple of goose egg innings and Char scored 7. Score was even at 12 going into the 7th but they failed to score and Char added 1 for the win. Big hitter today, and I mean Big, standing 6’7'', was Bob Kloehn with 2 singles and a couple of triples which he turned into doubles with his blazing speed. Great job Bob! Troy was on base four of the five times and threw out 3 more base runners. Happy birthday wishes to Troy, the birthday kid, as he celebrates his 54th. Sub, Roger Guth was 3 for 4. Dave Elkins pitched a great game and held us in but we just couldn’t finish the job. Thanks go out to Terry Graves, Rob White and Brad for umping and score keeping. A correction to my previous write up that had Craig Nelson hitting a home run when it was Dave Lawrence that hit the grand slam. A huge thank you to Dave, Cindy, Ralph, Kathleen and all the many contributors for preparing a wonderful feast for us all to enjoy. Muchos gracias to Rob and Vern for the Margarita stand and to Brad and Leslie operating the cocktail bar.
PAUL TONE INSURANCE 24 GENERAL EXTERMINATING 18
Pauls take: Good hitting throughout the entire lineup and especially in an open inning with 10 runs, gave Paul Tone a nice 24 to 18 win. Thanks to subs Chip Robertson with a 3 run HR and 5 RBIS and Greg Allseitz for 4/6 with 1 RBI and a home run saving catch in the bottom of the 7th inning. The win wouldn't have been possible without the great hitting of Brian Pin 5/5, Mike Hirsh 5/6, Dave Archer 4/6, Paul Becker 4/5, Greg Kastelic 4/5, Frank Sandomenico 3/4, Garry Weslosky 3/6 with a 3 run HR, and JD Dillree with 3/6 and 2 RBIs. Thanks to all the people who provided such a wonderful meal !!
Chucks take: The General Exterminating Squad lost to Paul Tone Farmers Thursday 24 to 18. It was actually a close game through the 6th frame as the Bug Zappers enjoyed a 17 to 14 lead. However, in the open frame, Tom and Paul’s Insurance Group initiated a 10 run rally that we could not overcome earning them the win. Our offensive effort seemed to trump our defense as we accumulated 35 hits. Leading that cause was Glen Soles with his 5/5 outing followed by Dave Lawrence, Dave Zuker, and Les Zirbel with their 4 knock performances. Chiming in with 3 hit days were Eric Shouse, Allan Caillouette, Moondoggie Anderson and subs Doug Miller and Birthday Boy Troy MacQueen. Thanks to the aforementioned subs, umpires and scoreboard keeper. Special shout out to all those involved in making the food fest (especially the cooks) the success our Red League Family all enjoyed!
FRIDAY MORNING GAME:
Paul Tone Insurance 8 Susys Home Cleaning 3
Pauls take: What a difference a day makes going from scoring 24 runs to 8 runs, but still proved to be enough to beat Suzy's 8/3. All the runs were scored in the 1st and the 6th innings. Nice Defense Team ! The hitting attack was led by Paul Becker 3/3 with 1 RBI, Dave Archer and Mike Hirsch had 3/4, and Les Zirbel and Brain Pin had 2/3. Hopefully we can continue our winning ways.
Jerrys take: The slumping Suzy’s Home Cleaning team continued their late season slide in a loss to Paul Tone Farmers Insurance 8 to 3. After 5 innings the stands were nearly empty as neither team could mount any offense. The score through 5 innings was 3 to 3 with all the runs scored in the first inning. Suzy’s continued their scoreless drought into the sixth inning, but Paul Becker must have given the Paul Tone guys a pep talk before their sixth at bat as they scored a game clinching 5 runs. Suzy’s then continued the scoreless run streak to six innings by failing to score in the seventh inning as well. Leading hitters for Suzy’s were... no one? Thank you to our substitutes today, Gary Finer and Randy Cihlar. Thanks also to Al Caillouette for calling balls and strikes, Ralph Hollis for umpiring the bases, and Mark Jensen for operating the scoreboard. We also thank Don Raineri and Jim Opyd for doing the field preparation. All did an excellent job and also gave up their Friday mornings so we could play softball.
