FastSigns - 7 WaFd Bank - 11

FastSigns loses again. I’m as frustrated writing this as I’m sure my teammates are living it. We have two bad innings defensively but play relatively well on that side of the game but our bats go silent with only 15 hits and 7 runs scored. Leadoff hitter Skip Pavitt had a good day going 3/4 with 2 runs scored and a RBI. Dan Hofeditz up next with a 2/4 day and run scored.  Tom Gobin was 3/4 with 2 runs scored and a RBI. Charlie Counts had 2 triples and 4 RBI with a run scored in his 4 at bats.  Jim Mathews picked up a RBI and a hit. Ed Campbell, Tim Mitchell, Ed Abrams and Pierre Boudreau all contributed a hit. Pitcher Dan Hofeditz was busy in the field and had several putouts and pop flies. Rover Skip Pavitt made a number of nice plays while Tom Gobin at third did a good job defensively including being the pivot man on a double play. The outfield was steady. Thanks to Joan Casazza and Marilyn Leinberger for keeping the scorebook and to the umpires and scoreboard operator.

On a brisk morning at the Field of Dreams the WaFd Bank went up against a strong FastSigns Team. The Bankers started fast with an 8-0 lead after 3. The Bankers continued with an 11-2 lead after 5. Over the next 2 innings FastSigns came alive with 5 runs and holding The Bankers yet this was not enough as the WaFd Bank took the win 11-7. Our defensive continues to improve and today was our best showing so far. The outfield of Ron Rogerson, Jocelyne George, Carol Cemensky and John Smith held it together, keeping most of the balls in front of them. Pat Moriarity played a good 3rd base picking up a grounder and a line drive. Don Cleveland continues to vacuum up everything in the short stop area. Ric Brucia is improving every game (as he gets to know the batters) at Rover catching pop ups and grounders and executing double plays. Dan Davidson plays a solid 2nd base and Barney at 1st base likes to visit with the opposing team. The battery of Sam Bernhardt and Kandi Patrick again had a wonderful game. Sam recorded an out at home plate catching a throw from 1st base. Kandi pitched well with strikeouts and fielding grounders and line drives for outs. Offensively perfect at the plate were Don Cleveland 3/3 double and Barney Armstrong 3/3 RBI. Collecting 2 hits were Dan Davidson, Kandi Patrick double 2 RBIs, Pat Moriarty Triple 4 RBIs, Ric Brucia double 2 RBIs and Jocelyne George. Getting on base were Carol Cemensky RBI, Ron Rogerson and John Smith Triple RBI. WaFd Bank would like to thank our subs Jocelyne George, Kandi Patrick, Ron Rogerson and John Smith. Thank you, Joan Casazza, for getting up early and working our scorebook.

Blue Thunder - 15 Karen Olsen Realty - 8

On Wednesday, Blue Thunder was the visitor versus a good hitting Karen Olsen Real Estate (KORE) team that started off with a bang, scoring 4 in the first. Fortunately, we have the REAL Karen Olsen playing for us! We were helped by Charlie Counts (3/4, 2RBI) at shortstop, subbing for Ken Kessler. The game went to 7 innings with Blue Thunder managing to shut down KORE in the seventh for the victory 15 – 8. Offensively, we had 23 hits: Pete Simoneau (2/2, 2RBI, 2BB, 2B); Mike Mcginn (3/3); Charlie Greer (3/4, 2RBI, 1HR, 3B); Scott Boyd (3/4, 4RBI); Mike Jordan (2/3, 1RBI); Joe Osowiec (2/3, 2RBI); KO (2/4); Joel Last (1/2, BB); Harold Enslen (1/3, 2RBI) Defense held KORE scoreless in 4 of the 7 innings, limiting them to mostly long singles and doubles, and only 4 runs over the final 4 innings. Highlights included a nice running outfield catch by Scott Boyd, Charlie Greer had a catch and a 9-3 assist; and the infield (Joe Osowiec, Mike Jordan, Charlie Counts, Jerry Eastham and Harold) made several good plays getting the needed outs at first, second and third base. Pete hit the plate for 2 strikeouts, caught 3 pop-ups, a 1-3 grounder, covered first on a great 3-1 play with Harold, and combined with Joel for an out at the plate. Thanks to Stephanie for keeping the books, Ron Burleson & Rick Schultz for umping, and Sue Cary for procuring our sub.

We played the undefeated Blue Thunder, we stayed with them through the 4th inning then Blue Thunder pulled ahead for good, winning 15-8 We only got 14 hits on 32 at bats for a team average .438 Batting to day Sub Ron Swanson 3/3 HR 3 RBI's, Greg Szlak 2/3 3 RBI's, Coral Estes 2/3 1 RBI, Paul Jinneman 2/3 1 RBI, Don Trenda 2/4, one hit each Sub Duncon Abrams, Sherry Westland and Doreen Stevenson. Want to thank Duncon Abrams & Ron Swanson for subbing today and Marilyn for doing the book.

General Exterminating - 6 Broward Factory Serv - 13

General Exterminating lost in a rain shortened game 6-12 with two innings left in the game. The star of the game was our own Ms. Debby Bigelow who hit a 2 run homer! Following close behind her was Dan Hodges who cranked out 2 Triples for 2 RBI and Art Molina who was 2 for 2 with 2 RBI. Wish we had been able to finish the game!

On a cold windy, rainy day. We managed a win after 5 innings played. Team Broward F.S. was led by Dave Martin, 3-=3, single, double, triple, scored 3 times, 2 R.B.I. Gothic Landscaping - 17 FastSigns - 8

Gothic went up against the Fast Sign Team today in an early morning game. Gothic started out strong with 3 runs in the first inning while holding Fast Sign to only 2 runs. In the 2nd inning we put up 4 runs and never looked back, putting up 3 or 4 runs in all but 1 inning. Our hitting was lead by Kandi Patrick and Gerry Boesche with 4 hits each, followed by CL Eversman, Sub Don Cleveland, Kevin Gillette and Lonnie Saiz each with 3 hits, followed by Bob Dye and Dave Safran with 2 hits and Dorothy Muzar added a hit for the win. Our next game is Wed. 2/18 @ 12:15. No one has any duties on that day.

FastSigns suffered a beat down today at the hands of Gothic Landscaping by the score of 17-8. It was one of those days that we couldn’t string any hits together. Of course our opponents played great defense as it seemed our best hit balls were caught. Leadoff hitter Skip Pavitt tried to pull us along with a perfect 4/4 day that included 2 triples and a double with 2 RBI. Charlie Counts was also perfect at bat with a 4/4 day as was Pierre Boudreau getting a single, double and triple in his 3 plate appearances. Tom Gobin was 2/4 on the day while Dan Hofeditz, Jim Mathews, Jocelyne George and Tim Mitchell each picked up a hit. Defensively it seemed Gothic hit the ball just out of reach. Couple that with too many errors when given the opportunity to make a play and the result was a resounding loss. Hopefully this will bring out the competitive fire in team FastSigns and result in a better effort next game. Thanks to Jocelyne George and Ed Hart for subbing today. We truly appreciate you! A special thanks to Joan Casazza for keeping our scorebook on this early morning game. Thanks to the umpires and scoreboard operators and to Bob Cary and Jeff Smith for all they do for the club.

Karen Olsen Realty - 11 WaFd Bank - 14

Had a tough one today, got some runs today but came up short. Team batting 21/38 .552 team average. Unfortunately Doug Harms got hurt today, hope it's not as bad as it seems. Batting today Doug Harms 2/2 2 Walks 2 HR's 4 RBI's, Greg Szlak 3/3, Don Trenda 3/4, Brain De Herrera 3/4 1 RBI, Paul Jinneman 3/4 3 RBI's, Coral Estes 3/4 2 RBI's, Doreen Stevenson 2/3, Phil Murry 1/4 1 RBI, Norma 1/4. Thank U Yvonne for doing the book.

The WaFd Bank on a cloudy morning took on a very good Karen Olsen Team. KO took a 5-4 lead after 3 innings. The bankers had a 6-5 lead after 4 and a 10-9 lead after 5. The Bankers deposited 4 runs in the bottom of the 6th and paid only 2 runs of interest in the top of the 7th too bring home the win. Defensively Kirk King had a nice catch in Left Center. The outfield of Les Notestine, Kirk King, Carol Cemensky and Jim Collins had to chase down some good hits by Karen Olsen but still kept many from getting past them. Pat Moriarty grabbed a couple grounders and Don Cleveland gloved both pop ups and grounders for outs or double plays. Ric Brucia had a big out in the 7th running to his left and catching a hard-hit line drive. Ric also had a couple double plays. Dan Davidson and Barney Armstrong held their positions all game. The battery of Sam Bernardt and Kandi Patrick had a strong game with Kandi keeping the batters off guard and fielding the ball. Offensively Perfect at the plate were Pat Moriarty 1/1 in the park HR, walk and 3 RBI's and Ric Brucia 3/3 double and an RBI. Collecting 2 hits were Kirk King RBI, Barney Armstrong and Jim Collins 2 in the park HR's and 3 RBIs. Getting a hit were Dan Davidson, Don Cleveland, Kandi Patrick, Carol Cemensky RBI and Les Notestine 4 RBIs. Sam Bernhardt had an RBI on a FC. WaFd Bank would like to thank Kandi Patrick, Les Notestine and Jim Collins for subbing today. Joan Casazza thank you for working our scorebook and Mia Brooks our Sponsor Representative for attending the game.

General Exterminating - 9 Blue Thunder - 14

General Exterminating put up a good fight against a very hard hitting Blue Thunder team.  Gen Ex played some good defense and held Blue Thunder scoreless in 2 innings.  In the end, Blue Thunder just had too many big hitters. Gen Ex never gave up and posted 20 hits for 9 runs, in the 14- loss. Sheldon Rosenthal was 3 for  with a double, Dave Bagwell was 3 for 4, Dan Hodges was 3 for  with a double and 2 RBI, Art Molina was 3 for 3 with a walk and 2 RBI, Laura Johnson was 3 for 4 with an RBI, Warren Stevenson was 1 for 4 with an RBI, Jake Groh was 2 for 3 with an RBI and Debbie Bigelow was 2 for 3.

"Blue Thunder hosted a good General Exterminator (GenEx) team on Monday that started off with a bang, with Blue Thunder scoring 4 in the first and 2 in the third. We were helped by Bob Higgins (2/3, 2RBI & HR) at shortstop, subbing for Ken Kessler. The game went to 7 innings with Blue Thunder managing to hold off GenEx for the victory 14 – 9. Offensively, we had 19 hits, including 4 home runs: Charlie Greer (3/3, 3RBI, 1HR ); Pete Simoneau (2/2, 3RBI, IBB, 2HR); Scott Boyd (2/2, triple, BB, 1RBI); Mike Jordan (2/3, 3RBI); KO (2/3, 1RBI); Mike Mcginn (2/3, 1RBI); Jerry Eastham (2/3); Harold Enslen (1/3); Joe Osowiec (1/3) Defense held GenEx scoreless in 3 of the 7 innings and limited them to 3 runs over the final 4 innings. Highlights included a nice running outfield catch my Mike Mcginn; and the infield (Mike Jordan, Bob Higgins and Harold) made several good plays getting the needed outs at first and second base. Pete nibbled at the corners for 4 strikeouts, 2 pop-ups and a 1-3 grounder. Thanks to Stephanie (bentornati dall’Italia!) for keeping the books, Ron Burleson & Gerry Boesche for umping, Ric Brucia for keying the scoreboard, and Sue Cary for procuring our sub."

Goodman Dermatology - 6 Game Day Health - 8

"Goodman Dermatology Falls to GameDay Health 6-8 in 7 innings, well… 6 1/2 innings. The weather matched our bats on this cloudy, cool afternoon as Goodman Dermatology dropped a hard-fought contest to GameDay Health, 6-8. Goodman Dermatology came out swinging early, building a lead through the first three innings and looking poised for victory. But the momentum shifted dramatically in the 4th inning when GameDay clawed back to knot the score at 6-6. From that point forward, our offense went ice cold. Despite multiple opportunities, Goodman Dermatology couldn’t push another run across the plate. Meanwhile, GameDay Health capitalized on their momentum, tacking on 2 more runs to secure the win. In what turned out to be a low-scoring affair, the final tally read 6-8 in favor of GameDay Health. While the loss stings, the team showed heart in building that early advantage. The challenge now is to rediscover that offensive spark and carry it through all seven innings. Next game, we’ll look to warm up those bats and get back in the win column. Defensively we had some good plays and catches in the outfield. Offensively, four players were 2/3, Ed Campbell, Murray Lushaw, sub Shawna Fletcher and Barry Schwartz with a triple. "

GameDay Health & Goodman Dermatology battled in a low scoring game with GameDay pulling out a 8-6 win in a 6 1/2 inning game.  Good pitching and defense was the name of the game today for both teams.  Paul Plapp pitched another good game with 5 shutout innings.  At 3rd base, Dale Huffine made some nice plays.  GameDay was led by Dave Holub 3x3 3 RBI’s,  Frank Preite 3x3 1 RBI 1 HR,  Steve Coffman 2x2 1 RBI 1 sac,  Dale Huffine 2x3 1 triple,  Gary Kuhlman 2x3 1 RBI,  Jeanne Lushaw 1x3 1 RBI,  Jim Tomich 1x2, Dave Michels 1x3,  Mike Kachurak 0x3 1 RBI, sub, Joel Last & Paul Plapp 0x3 each.  Thank you to our sub, Joel Last and Joan Casazza for keeping our book.

Carrousel Travel - 13 Broward Factory Serv - 9

Today the double play and good defense was our friend. 3 double play and not throwing the ball around. Broward had 4 good subs and we had 2 good subs. Unlike games before we did not give up the lead in the end good defense held it together. Super sub Joe Stempiewski 4/4triple & 3 double, Jeff Bearth 4/4, Steve Foster 3/4, Kurt Kanouse, Dick Steinman, Sue Cary & Sal Politi 2/3, John Smith 1/3 (thanks for subbing)Bob Cary 4/1. 21 hitting and they made some great catches. Nice job every one, thanks Joan Casazza for keeping the book.

Broward F.S. , Ed Musgrave was 3-3, scored once. Jim parry was 3-4, double, scored twice, 2 R.B.I. Sub john Holton was 3-3, walk, 2 doubles, home run, scored twice, 4 R.B.I. Sub Annie Lowe was 2-3, walk. Wayne Moxley was 2-3, and good defense. Bob Williams was 2-4, scored once, 1 R.B.I. Sub Murry Lushaw was 2-4, double, 2 R.B.I. Doug Asleson was 2-4, scored twice. Glen Zelkind had a hit and scored once. Thanks to John Holton, Murry Lashaw Annie Lowe , and Gary Smith for subbing today.

FastSigns - 8 Karen Olsen Realty - 10

Another walk off loss against a strong Karen Olsen Real Estate team today was quite the contrast to Monday’s loss. With the exception of the seventh inning our defense played good enough to win most games but our offense had a rough day. Ed Abrams with a 3/3 day and Tom Gobin at 3/4 on the day did their part but the rest of us hit it at someone or grounded out. Only Jim Mathews and Pierre Boudreau were able to get 2 hits while everyone else was held to one hit. Defensively Skip Pavitt at Rover was busy and made several nice plays while sub Jocelyne George made a nice catch in LC while also contributing a double and 2 RBI. Thanks for subbing Jocelyne! Dan Hofeditz started a double play with Skip handling the pivot as well as fielding several grounders from his pitching position. Tom Gobin made several good plays at third and Jim Mathews handled first base well while catching two foul ball popups. Sub David Howard caught a foul tip behind the plate. Thanks for subbing again David. Next week is a chance to start a winning streak and have some more fun! Thanks to Joan Casazza for getting out early to keep our scorebook and to the umpires and scoreboard operator. As usual Bob Cary was on hand to get the field open and the scoreboard fired up. Thanks Bob!

Great come back today, great team effort, we were down but not out. We struggled at the plate but put it together in the bottom of the 6th with 6 hits and 2 HR's. We had a total of 4 HR’S with 2 of them in the bottom of the 6th by Brian De Herrera and the game winning HR by Doug Harms! Team batting, 18/37 for a .486 average. Hitting Paul Jinneman 4/4, Doug Harms 3/4 HR 2 RBI’s, Phil Murry 2/3, Greg Czlak 2/3, Don Trenda 2/4 HR 3 RBI’s, Brian De Herrera 1/4 HR 2 RBI’s, Coral Estes 1/3 HR 3 RBI’s, getting 1 hit ea Norma Lucas, Sherry Westland and Doreen Stevenson.

Gothic Landscaping - 11 Goodman Dermatology - 15

Gothic went up against a tough Goodman Dermatology team today. Goodman took an early lead and Gothic was  able to keep the game close but we could never catch up to them. Unfortunately in the 3rd inning Gary Ash playing Left Center Field for Goodman had a long fly ball deflect off his glove and hit him squarely in the face. We are all praying for him to make a speedy recovery. Our hitting was lead by Kandi Patrick and Dave Safran with 3 hits each followed by Dorothy Muzar, CL Eversman, Bob Dye and Sub John Smith with 2 hits each. Gerry Boesche, Dede Gaetz and Sub Carol Cemensky all added a hit as well. Our next game is Monday 2/16 @ 8:30. Kandi Patrick has Umpire duty after the game at 9:45 and Dorothy Muzar has Scoreboard duty at 9:45 as well.

"Goodman Dermatology defeats Gothic Landscaping, 15-11 in a 6 inning game. In a hard-fought six-inning battle, Goodman Dermatology withstood a late surge from Gothic Landscaping to secure a 15-11 victory, though the win came at a cost. Goodman Dermatology dominated early, building a commanding lead while keeping the normally potent Gothic Landscaping offense in check. Gothic managed just a single run in the first inning, then went scoreless in the second before adding two runs in the third. The game remained competitive as Gothic chipped away with four runs in both the fourth and fifth innings, but Goodman Dermatology’s offensive firepower and stellar defense kept them comfortably ahead. The defensive effort was nothing short of spectacular, with the infield turning in several outstanding plays to limit the damage and keep Gothic hitters off balance. Despite Gothic’s persistence at the plate, Goodman’s defense made the plays when it mattered most. Offensively, Goodman Dermatology was firing on all cylinders, pounding out 18 hits throughout the game. The balanced attack kept constant pressure on Gothic’s defense and built a lead that would prove crucial down the stretch. The game was marred by a scary moment when Goodman’s left center fielder collided with a fly ball and had to be taken to the hospital. The player is expected to miss several games, casting a shadow over an otherwise strong team performance. Beyond that incident, Goodman played a clean game with very few defensive miscues. With the win, Goodman Dermatology demonstrated they can maintain composure and hold off a determined opponent even as Gothic battled back inning after inning. They’ll need to find a way to fill the void left by their injured outfielder in upcoming contests. Final Score: Goodman Dermatology 15, Gothic Landscaping 11

Offensive notes: Ed Campbell was 2/3 , a home run and a BB and 3 rbi’s, Murray Lushaw was 3/4 , 2 singles, a double and a HR, Glenn Turner 3/3 , Barry Schwartz 3/3 including a 3 bagger, sub Jack Miller 3/3 including a double, Ray Hensley 2/3, Jim Tokar 1/2, a single, BB & 1 rbi, Jack Braly 1/2, a single and a BB, Ron Rogerson 0/0, 3 walks, Yvonne Becker 0/1, a single and 2 BB’s. The team thanks Jack Miller for subbing today at first base and a special thanks to Marilyn Leinberger for doing our scorebook.

WaFd Bank took on General Exterminating looking for their first win. Both teams fought hard but in the end the Bankers deposited more runs 10 to Gen Ex's 7. Defensively the Bankers had their best game blanking Gen Ex in 5 of the 7 innings. The battery of Sam Bernhardt and Kandi Patrick pitched a whale of a game. The outfield of Sub Charlie Campbell, Claire Lucas, Barney Armstrong and Chris Zerr kept most everything in front of them. Dan Davidson helped in the outfield when Claire Lucas needed to come out and was replace by Ed Hart covering 2nd. The infield of Pat Moriarty, Don Cleveland, Rick Brucia, Dan Davidson (Sub Ed Hart) and Sub Don C Cole played well with Don to Rick to Don for a double play. Don Cleveland caught a nice pop fly in shallow left field. Kandi had quite a few grounders that were grabbed for outs. Dan Davidson had a a pickup for an out as did Ed Hart. Gen Ex answered in the 6th with Dan Hodges hitting a home run to again take the lead 5-4.  Gen Ex was able to hold their lead in the 7th for the 5-4 win. Gen Ex only had 10 hits in the game, but put them to good use, and the defense was stellar against a hard hitting Karen Olsen team. Dan Hodges was 2 for 3 with a Home Run and 2 RBI, Warren Stevenson was 1 for 3 with 2 RBI and Jake Groh was 1 for 3 with an RBI. Our normal pitcher was missing today and team mate Laura Johnson stepped in and did a fabulous job.  Thank you to John Smith for subbing.

WaFd Bank - 12 Carrousel Travel - 12

The WaFd Bank and Carrousel Travel Softball Teams ended in a tie 12-12. The game was hard fought by both teams up until the 6th and final inning. I'm not going into details, lets just say we entered the Twilight Zone with a few bizarre plays. Defensively, the Bankers played a much better game than the opener a week ago. Barney caught a fly ball in Right Center and the outfield of Claire Lucas, Kirk King, Barney Armstrong and Chris Zerr kept most of the balls in front of them. The infield had some nice plays with Don Cleveland catching a line drive at Short Stop and grabbing grounders with throws to 3rd and 2nd for outs.  Dan Davidson played deep and threw a ball to Phil Hughes covering 1st base for the out. Phil pitched a good game and Sam Bernhardt at home caught a throw on a bounce from Don for an out in the final inning. Pat had a pickup at 3rd. Offensively, the Bankers doubled their hitting with 20 hits. Perfect at the plate were Kirk King 4/4 Triple double 5 RBIs, and Barney Armstrong 4/4 2 RBIs. Getting 3 hits was Phil Hughes 3/4. Collecting 2 hits were Dan Davidson 2/4, Don Cleveland 2/3 walk and Rick Brucia 2/4 2 RBIs. Pat Moriarity 2/4 with a double and 3 RBIs and Claire Lucas got a hit with Chris Zerr and Sam Bernhardt each getting a walk. Marilyn did a super job working or scorebook. Thank you.

Somethings don’t change we play well at the beginning but we lose it in the end. Today was one of those days where the calls go against you. We started out very well we had 3 runs in the first inning, 2 in the second and lead going into the last inning 10 to 7 however we gave up five runs on the top of the inning. We came back with 2 to tie. Kurt Kanouse 4/4, sub John Sliva 2/2 +a walk, Steve Foster 3/4,Joe Stempiewski 1/2 a HR + a walk (thanks for subbing),1/3 Jeff Bearth,Sue&Bob Cary, Norm Volk & Klaus Holt,1/2 Sal Politi, Dick Steinman with 2 walks. Our prayer are with Chip White  in the hospital. Thanks Joan Casazza for keeping the book.

FastSigns - 17 Goodman Dermatology - 18

Team FastSigns scored enough to win today but our defense was not up to par. Goodman Dermatology pulled out the win in the bottom of the sixth with 3 runs. Tom Gobin had a good day at the plate going 4/4 on the day. Also perfect at bat was sub David Howard going 4/4 with 4 RBI including 2 doubles. Skip Pavitt was 4/5 with an RBI. Charlie Counts was 3/4 with a home run leading off the third and 3 RBI. Sub Charlie Greer was also 3/4 on the day with a RBI as was Ed Abrams and Pierre Boudreau. Ed picked up a RBI while Pierre had 2 RBI. Tim Mitchell and Jim Collins were both 2/4. Tim had 2 RBI’s and Jim had one RBI. Dan Hofeditz had a double and RBI. Jim Mathews was also 1/4 with a RBI. That was the positive aspect of the game. The defense was mainly negative. Thanks again to Joan Casazza for keeping our scorebook and to the umpires. Norm Volk always calls a good game. Thanks to the scoreboard operator and to Bob Carey for helping secure the field.

Goodman Dermatology Rallies for Thrilling Comeback Victory against the FastSigns 11. In a nail-biting showdown that came down to the final inning, Goodman Dermatology pulled off a dramatic come-from-behind victory, scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh to snatch a one-run win against a formidable offensive opponent. The game lived up to its billing as a battle between two competitive squads, with Goodman Dermatology facing off against a team known for their potent bats. Throughout the contest, the visiting team’s hitters kept the pressure on, but Goodman Dermatology refused to fold, matching them stride for stride and keeping the deficit manageable. Despite committing several errors in the field that could have derailed a lesser team, Goodman Dermatology showed remarkable resilience. The defensive miscues were offset by clutch pitching when it mattered most and timely hitting throughout the lineup. Each player contributed in their own way, embodying the true meaning of team softball. Heading into the final frame, Goodman Dermatology trailed by two runs. Rather than succumb to the deficit, the team drew on their collective determination. With their backs against the wall, the offense came alive in the seventh inning. The rally showcased contributions from up and down the order, with players delivering key hits, advancing runners, and putting pressure on the defense. When the dust settled, Goodman Dermatology had plated three runs in their final at-bat, completing the comeback and securing a victory that showcased their character, perseverance, and never-say-die attitude. It was a total team effort and a game that won’t soon be forgotten. Offensively the top hitter was once again Murray Lushaw going 4/4, 2 doubles, a triple and a single, followed by Ed Campbell with 3/4. Those going 3/3 were Gary Ash including a walk a double and a final single that would have been a 3 bagger but brought in the winning run from 3rd. Glenn Turner including a double, Barry Schwartz, 2 singles and a triple. Dan Sykes, all singles. Jim Tokar was 2/3. Yvonne Becker was 1/2 and a BB, Ray Hensley 1/3, Jack Braly was 1/1 and 2 BB’s. Ron Rogerson hit the ball well but was unable to get on base. The team and the manager want to give Marilyn Leinberger a big thank you for doing our scorebook.

Carrousel Travel - 8 Karen Olsen Realty - 14

"Today’s game is one we just want to forget and move on. We had 8 flyout/line drive outs along with 2 double plays which after our traditional 4 run first, gave us no momentum to ignite a rally. It was not our day. We only had 16 hits thru 7 innings whereas we had 22 hits on Monday in just 5. Ouch!! Jeff Bearth went 3/3 with (1rbi) while Steve Foster, Joe Gonski (2rbi), Sue Cary (2rbi), Sal Politi (2rbi) and Dick Steiman went 2/3. Kurt Kanouch, Chip White, and Klaus Holt went 1/3 while Bob Cary went had a hit/(1rbi) to round out our hitting. We get back to work on Monday!

"
1st game of the session for us as we had a bye on Monday. Started out not so good as we gave up 4 in the top of the 1st inning, we answered with 4 in the bottom of the inning, we then held Carrousel Travel to only 4 runs the rest of the game as we put up 10 runs. Another game where we got our defence working, we had 3 double plays and some clutch catches. Great effort by all. we had 20 hits with 30 at bats for a team average of .667 batting today Sub Ric Brucia 3/3 3 RB's, Don Trenda 3/4 triple 1 RBI, Brian De Herrera 3/4 2 RBI's, Coral Estes 2/3 4 RBI's, Doreen Stevenson 2/2 walk and 1 RBI, Drug Harms 2/2 triple and walk 1 RBI, Sub Joe Stempniewski 2/3 1 RBI, Sherry Westland 1/3 1 RBI, Greg Szlak 2/3 2 doubles,  Want to thank SUBs Ric Brucia and Joe Stempniewski, and Yuvonne Becker for doing the Book

Goodman Dermatology - 19 Homesmart Camerons - 11

"Goodman Dermatology defeated HomeSmart today in an impressive display of softball prowess this game , showing excellence on both sides of the ball in a commanding performance that left no doubt about the team’s abilities. The defense was airtight from the first pitch to the final out. Perhaps most impressively, there wasn’t a single error recorded—a testament to the team’s focus. At the plate, Goodman Dermatology was relentless with everyone getting at least one hit. It was a complete team effort that demonstrated why Goodman Dermatology is a force to be reckoned with on the softball field. The top hitters were Murray Lushaw going 4/4 including a triple and Ed Campbell also going 4/4. Sub Don Cleveland playing SS went 3/5 today including a triple in the 7th inning. Gary Ash went 3/4 including a double and triple and a sac, Ray Hensley going 3/4 and Jack Braly also managing a 3/4 day. Yvonne Becker banged out a 3/3 day including a base on balls (and I see I incorrectly reported Yvonne as 2/4 on Monday’s game and should have been 3/4, way to go Yvonne). Dan Sykes was 2/4 as was Ron Rogerson. Barry Schwartz hit a double and was 1/4 today as was Jim Tokar. The team thanks Don Cleveland subbing at SS and Marilyn Leinberger for doing our scorebook.
"
Well today’s game was a tough slog for HomeSmart. We just couldn’t get our mojo working try as we might. Goodman seemed to be everywhere we hit the ball. Even with 23 hits we only managed to score 11. Leading the hitting fest was Joe Stempniewski with 4/4, Annie Lowe with 3/4 and pretty much the rest of us were 2/4. Thank you Joan for being our scorekeeper!

Blue Thunder - 16 GameDay Health - 11

Blue Thunder was the visitor v GameDay Health, and with the help of our two subs, Gary Ash (3/4, 2RBI), and Dan Hodges (2/4, 1RBI) we managed to bang out 27 hits and score 16 runs in seven innings. After the first inning jitters, in which GameDay scored 4 runs, the defense settled down and allowed just 7 runs over the next six frames. Final score was Blue Thunder 16 - GameDay 11. Player stats: Harold Enslen 4/4, 3 RBI; Pete Simoneau & Scott Boyd both went 4/4, 2RBI each; Joe Osowiec 3/3, 1RBI; Charlie Greer & Mike Jordan were both 2/4, 2RBI each; Jerry Eastham 2/3, BB; Joel Last 1/3, Mike Mcginn was 0/3 Thanks to Stephanie for keeping the books, Ron Burleson & Marilyn for umping, Yvonne for keying the scoreboard, and Sue Cary for procuring our subs, again.

"GameDay Health was taken down 16-11 by a good hard hitting Blue Thunder team in a 7 inning game. The game was tied 4-4 through the 2nd inning. From the 3rd inning to the 7th inning, GameDay was not able to match the Blue team’s offense as well as their defense. A well played game by the Blue team. GameDay was led by Steve Coffman 3x3 2 RBI’s 2 dbl’s, Jim Tomich 2x2 1 RBI 1 bb, Dave Michels 3x4, Joe Sowder 2x3 2 RBI’s 1 dbl, Dave Holub 2x4 3 RBI’s, Mike Kachurak 2x4 1 RBI, Frank Preite 2x4 1 dbl, Dale Huffine 2x4, Jeanne Lushaw 1x3 2 RBI’s, Gary Kuhlman 1x4, Paul Plapp 0x3. Gothic Landscaping -16 Broward Factory Serv - 11

Gothic got a win against a good BFS team today. We played some good and smart defense today with very few errors and our hitting was very good also. Our  hitting was lead by Scott Boyd with 2 home runs and a single with 7 RBI’s, followed by Kandi Patrick, CL Eversman, Gerry Boesche, Dede Gaetz and Dave Safran with 2 hits each, followed by Bob Dye, Lonnie Saiz and Kevin Gillette who each contributed a hit for the win. Good job team!  Our next game is Monday 2/9 @ 11:00 no one has any duties on that day.

The boys played well against a good team but never caught up. Leading the team Chuck Gibson was 3-3, 2 R.B.I. Jim Parry was 3-4, double, home run, scored twice, 2 R.B.I. Bob Williams was 3-4, scored once, 1 R.B.I. Dave martin was 3-4, double, scored twice, 1 R.B.I. Doug Asleson was 2-3, walk, scored once, 2 R.B.I. Ed Musgrave was 2-3, 1 R.B.I. Glen Zelkind was 2-3, scored twice, Bob Snelling had a pair of hits, once, 1 R.B.I Sub John Smith had three base on balls. Wayne Moxley scored once, 1 R.B.I. Sub Charlie Campbell scored once. Special thanks to John Smith and Charlie Campbell for subbing today.

FastSigns - 17 General Exterminating - 5

Today was a good day for FastSigns both at the plate and in the field as we held a game General Exterminating team to 5 runs while scoring 17 times. Skip Pavitt started us on the right path by taking a walk and scoring our first run on his way to a 2/3 day including a triple to go with 3 RBI while scoring 3 times. Dan Hofeditz followed with 4 RBI on a 3/4 day at the plate. Tom Gobin was also 3/4 with a double and a RBI. Jim Mathews forced in a run with a walk in the first inning and contributed a double leading off the fifth and scored 3 runs. Charlie Counts was 4/4 with a triple and 4 RBI. Daren Proctor went 1/3 with a RBI. Tim Mitchell started the 4 run second inning with a hit and ended the day with 2 hits and a RBI. Paul Pearson coaxed a walk to keep the second inning alive as did Jim Collins who picked up a hit in his next at bat. Ed Abrams had a perfect day going 3/3 with 3 runs scored and a RBI. Kris Koch was a great sub today with a hit and a walk and a RBI. Her only out was a screaming line drive. Defensively Dan Hofeditz started a double play and recorded several outs from his pitching position. Jim Mathews dug out a couple of low throws at first. Ed Abrams had a good day at second base. Skip Pavitt was truly a rover today making plays in both the outfield and infield. Charlie Counts made a hustle play on a popup that Ed lost in the sun to get the putout. Tom Gobin at third made several good plays from hard hit balls to slow rollers he handled everything that came his way. The outfield had a tough time with the sun in the late game but only let one ball get behind them. They got the ball to the cutoff man quickly to set up forceouts which takes pressure off the pitcher and infielders. A special callout to sub Kris Koch for coming in from left to cover third base when we shifted to the right with a lefty at bat. This prevented the runner from advancing. We want to thank Kris Koch for subbing today and thank the umpires and scoreboard operator. A special thanks to Joan Casazza for keeping our scorebook and help in managing the dugout.

Gen Ex just gave away too many runs early to a hard hitting FastSigns team and weren't able to catch up, losing 17-5 in a shortened 6 inning mercy game. We had some good defensive plays and a lot of close calls that didn't go our way. Sheldon Rosenthat was 2 for 3, Dave Bagwell 2 for 3, Dan Hodges 2 for 3 with a DBL and an RBI, Art Molina was 1 for 3 with a DBL and an RBI, Laura Johnson was 1 for 3 with an RBI, Warren Stevenson was 2 for  with an RBI and Dick Kohnen was 1 for 2 with an RBI.

Carrousel Travel - 14 General Exterminating - 1

“A carrousel is a revolving or shared idea where all motion has a similar goal or objective.” Well, today Carrousel was circling the bases in a stunning opening day victory. We only played 5 innings but had 22 hits to complement our 14 runs. 3 teammates went 3/3-- Joe Gonski, 2rbi, Sue Carys 3/3 2rbi, Norm Volk 1rbi. Klaus Holt was also 1/1 with a spectacular game ending catch along with Dick Steiman who kept the infield solid with great first base play. A memorable opening day where everyone made a contribution and kept a positive attitude. On to Wednesday!

Obviously the first game of the day is not for the Gen Ex team.  We just couldn't get our offense and defense going and lost 14-1 in a  shortened mercy game, to a hard hitting Carousel team.  Sheldon Rosenthat was 2 for 2 with a walk and a double, Dave Bagwell was 1 for 2 with a walk, Dan Hodges was 1 for 3 with an RBI, Art Molina was 1 for 2, Jake Groh was 2 for 2, Debby Bigelow was 1 or 2 and Judy Muller was 1 for 2.

First game of the Winter season and Goodman Dermatology went down in defeat in the 7th inning to a good hitting Broward Factory Services team. Goodman lead first 2 innings then we were 1 behind after 3, retook the lead in the 4th thru the 6th. Going into the 7th we were ahead 14 to 8 a 6 run lead, all we needed was 3 outs… We managed to get 2 quick outs and then the BFS bats came alive, putting up 10 runs before we managed to get the 3rd out. Goodman only manage 1 more run and the 18-15final score. We played well for the first game with a couple hiccups until the 7th inning defensively when the barrage of hits deluged us. The big hitter today was Gary Ash going 4/4 with a double. The following were 3/4: Sub Coral Estes holding down SS very well, Barry Schwartz with a double, Dan Sykes with a triple, Ron Rogerson with a triple. Ed Campbell was 2/4 including a double, Yvonne Becker was 2/4, Ray Hensley was 1/4 and lastly Jack Braly hit the ball hard but came up short. The team thanks Coral Estes for subbing at SS for us today.

Homesmart Camerons - 15 FastSigns - 16

Our bats were hot with a total of 26 hits, but it wasn't enough to take down a tough Fast Signs team. We were neck and neck through 6 innings but couldn't hold them back in the 7th inning. Rod Dand had 4 hits and 2 triples. Bob Higgins had 4 hits with 2 doubles. John Holten had 4 hits with 2 triples. Steve Armstrong had 4 hits with 2 doubles. Denise Gibala had 3 hits. Joe Stempniewski had 2 hits and a double. Bob Topham had 2 hits. Tammie Songer hit a double. Ed Hart and Annie Lowe each had a hit. On defense, Ed Hart made the first out of the season by scooping up a grounder and throwing to first base.  Bob Higgins made a nice double play tagging the runner going to third base before throwing to second. Annie Lowe caught a line drive.

Team FastSigns got the winter season started on the right foot by getting a walk off win against a strong Homesmart Camerons team in a slugfest 16-15. Our offense was the key today with 26 hits lead by perfect days from Darren Proctor and Ed Abrams. Not only did Darren drive in the winning run he contributed 4 RBI and scored 3 runs. Ed scored 2 runs and had 2 RBI. Our leadoff hitter Skip Pavitt and Dan Hofeditz, Jim Mathews and Charlie Counts were 3/4. Tom Gobin was 2/4 with 2 RBI while Tim Mitchell and Paul Pearson clocked in at 2/3 on the day. Jim Collins was 1/2 with a walk and a run scored. Our sub Carol Cemensky had a good day with a hit, RBI and run scored. Our defense was shaky to begin the game and we fell behind in the first two innings and again in the fourth. We managed to go ahead by 3 in the bottom of the fifth but let them tie us in the top of the seventh before three straight hits in the bottom of the inning gave us the win. Defensively we were a little shaky but had a couple good plays. Tom Gobin made a great catch on a line drive down the left field line and doubled the runner off third. Skip Pavitt moved to short right field with the power hitting left handers at bat and made a good catch. Darren Proctor had a good catch in left center while fighting the sun. Overall we had 3 bad innings and 4 good innings in the field. The first few games playing with new teammates always has a few miscues but this team has the ability to learn each other’s strengths and weaknesses and we will improve as the season progresses. We want to thank Carol Cemensky for subbing and Joan Casazza for keeping our scorebook. Thanks to the umpires and scoreboard operator.

Blue Thunder - 19 Gothic Landscaping - 10

Blue Thunder made its debut at The Field of Dreams vs a tough Gothic Landscaping team. Thunder was helped by subs Bob Higgins (SS, 4/4, 2 Runs) and Kurt Kanouse (LCF, 3/4, 3 RBIs) who filled in beautifully with their bats, gloves, and legs. Defensively, the team was disciplined, made good plays, and didn’t throw the ball around, keeping Gothic runners from scoring in 4 of the 7 innings. Offensively, the team had 27 hits and scored 3 in the first, and a maximum 4 runs in 4 innings (2,3,4 & 6) for a 19-10 victory. Player stats: Charlie Greer 4/4, 2RBI; Pete Simoneau 3/4, 4RBI (Grand Slam); Scott Boyd 2/4, 4RBI; newcomer Mike Jordan 3/4, 2RBI; Harold Enslen 2/3 3RBI; Jerry Eastham 2/3, 1RBI; Joel Last 3/3, 1RBI; Joe Osowiec 1/3; Mike Mcginn had a quiet day at the plate and on the field… on to the next game. Thanks to Stephanie for keeping the books, Bob Topham & Marilyn for umping, Tammie for keying the scoreboard, and Sue Cary for procuring our subs.

We scored 10 runs which is not a bad start.  However Blue Thunder kept finding holes in our defense. We got over anxious and threw the ball around too many times allowing runs to score.  New team jitters. Everyone was trying to hard.  We just need to relax and play smart ball.  The hitting was lead by Kandi Patrick and CL Eversman with 3 hits each followed by Scott Piemeisl, Gerry Boesche and Lonnie Saiz with 2 hits each followed by Kevin Gillette, Bob Dye and Dave Safran with a hit each. Special Thanks to Scott Piemeisl for Subbing today and Kris Koch for keeping the book. Our next game is Wed 2/4 @12:15 after our game CL and Kandi have Umpire Duty and Dave Safran has Scoreboard duty.

FastSigns - 15 Carrousel Travel - 10

The fall season was a tough one for the FastSigns team. We got off to a terrible start by losing our first four games. Then we played well over the next eight games posting a 5-1-2 record. Unfortunately we didn’t play well down the stretch and the last seven games saw us post a 3-4 record to finish at 8-9-2. The last game we put out a good effort and were able to finish with a win over a Carrousel Travel squad who had beaten us earlier in the season. Offensively our last three in the batting order were the catalyst in this win led by Jerry Eastham with a 3/3 day followed by Klaus Holt and Wayne Moxley going 2/3. Jerry had an RBI while Wayne had 2 RBI and scored two runs. Laura Johnson and Wes Mason each had a hit. Art Molina was the big RBI guy today with 5 on a 3/4 day. His bases loaded triple in the first inning set the tone for the day and gave us a lead we never relinquished. Also going 3/4 was Tom Gobin who also had an RBI while scoring 3 runs. Kurt Kanouse was 2/3 on the day with a walk and 2 RBI. Jim Mathews was also 2/3 with a walk and 2 RBI while scoring twice. Bob Snelling was 2/3 with a walk and an RBI while scoring three times. Charlie Counts was 2/3 with an RBI. Defensively Kurt Kanouse was busy in left center including recording all three outs on fly balls one inning. Art Molina made a good catch in left while fighting the early morning sun plus he got the ball to the relay man to cut down a runner at third. Bob and Wayne on the right side got the ball back in quickly to prevent the runners from taking an extra base. Tom Gobin at third handled his position well and started a double play in which Jim Mathews turned a good pivot and throw to complete the play. Charlie Counts at SS had several chances and with the exception of a low throw to first did his job. Jim Mathews at Rover was busy today and did a good job. Jerry Eastham at second made a good play to force a runner at second as well as catching a tough popup. Wes Mason at first made a couple of catches on poor throws to save his teammates. Laura Johnson not only pitched a good game but fielded several grounders to make life easier on her infielders. To summarize the season we were a streaky team and lost a few games we had a chance to win but our record is what it is. Tom and I want to let our teammates know we appreciate their efforts and are happy they are enjoying the Grand Softball Club. Thanks to Joan Casazza for keeping the score book today and to the umpires and scoreboard operator. A special thanks to Bob Cary for helping prepare the field on these chilly mornings. Thanks to Commissioners Mike Kachurak, Jeff Smith and Chris Espejo for all you do for the club.

Well “The Song Remains the Same:” FastSigns scores 4, Carrousel 2. FS scores 4, We score 2. FS scores 2, We score 0, yet on the field we had folks on base BUT 5 force outs at 2nd base and 2 double plays is a killer…OMG. Charlie Greer 3/4, Joe Gonski 3/4,2rbi. Dick Steiman 3/3,2rbi, Karen Olsen 2/4 with 2rbi while Norm Volk and Chris Zerr had a rbi each. Ed Campbell, 1rbi, John Smith 1rbi and Sam Bernhardt rounded out our 16 hits. The season sure did not go our way and despite the frustration of the moment, we all enjoyed playing with each other and that in the end was a good thing. Hopefully winter season will be better for the Carrousel brand.

"Today Gothic went up against Boward Factory Service. Both Teams started out slowly with just 1 run in the first inning. In the 3rd inning Boward came alive and put up 4 runs but Gothic couldn’t get the hitting going until the 5th inning. With only 2 innings left we weren’t able to catch up. We were in last place for the first half of the season but made a great comeback and ended the season in 2nd place. So good job everyone, I hope you all had fun this season and looking forward to seeing you all at the Ball Field next season. The hitting was lead by Bob Higgins, Jeff Bearth, and Daren Proctor with 3 hits each followed by Dan Hofeditz, Sal Politi, Kevin Gillette, and John Weyrich with 2 hits each and Debbie Kanouse hit a hard line drive to left field to start a 4 run rally to help close the scoring gap, good job Deb. Special thanks to are subs, Bob Higgins, Dale Huffine, Kevin Gillette,John Weyrich, and Debbie Kanouse and Betty Saiz for keeping the Book."

What a wonderful finish to this season for HomeSmart. We tied for 3rd out of 12 teams. Quite the comeback! This last game against a formidable Goodman team followed a familiar pattern of how our season played out … our bats were cool to start but quickly warmed up for the win. Leading the way for hits were Kirk King, Ken Kessler and John Holten with 4/4. Hot on their tail were Joe Stempniewski and Dan Sykes with 3/3. Thank you teammates for your good sportsmanship and for giving it your all each and every game! Thanks to Marilyn and Kandi for helping score and coaching.
