2014 CAL RIPKEN BASEBALL TOURNAMENT

Ingomar, Pennsylvania, June 5, 2014 – Ingomar/Franklin Park Athletic Association (IFPAA) will host the 2014 Cal Ripken 12-and-under (12U) Pennsylvania State Baseball Tournament, July 11-16 at Blueberry Hill Park, a multi-field recreational complex in Franklin Park.

The Ripken PA State Tournament is held annually to determine the 12U State Champion and Pennsylvania representative team at the Mid-Atlantic Playoffs, to be played in Spring Ford, Pennsylvania one week later. Top Cal Ripken-affiliated teams from throughout the state will play in a round-robin format tournament, culminating in a series of elimination games to crown the State Champion.  Leading up to the event, teams will play in local and regional competitions to earn a trip to the Ingomar tournament. Up to ten teams will participate in the Ripken PA State Tournament, the identities of which will become known two weeks prior to the event. Tournament festivities will begin Friday night, July 11th with team introductions, a home run hitting contest, slickest infield contest and a team speed competition. Admission is free, and a wide range of concessions and other attractions will be available to enhance the fan experience.

IFPAA President/Executive Director Chuck Mazur commented, “Since partnering with Cal Ripken Baseball prior to last year, our goal has been to bring the highest-caliber youth baseball to the Ingomar community. We’re thrilled to host this showcase tournament for the best 12-year old teams that Pennsylvania has to offer”. Vice President of Baseball Tom Watson added, “We are excited to bring such a high-profile event to the area and encourage baseball fans from around the region to come to Ingomar to see some top-notch competition”.

Ingomar/Franklin Park Athletic Association is a non-profit organization that for more than 60 years has provided baseball and softball programs to boys and girls ages 4 through 19 in Ingomar, Franklin Park, McCandless, Marshall Township and surrounding areas within the North Allegheny School District. IFPAA is the Western PA representative for Cal Ripken Baseball, a division of Babe Ruth League, Inc.
