Babe Ruth State Championship Tournament - 14U
(July 16 – July 22, Milroy, PA)

This was an overall great experience and looking forward to more.  Here are a few highlights:

1 - We were 2-2 in pool play, and missed the cutoff for the semi-final by one run in the runs allowed tie-breaker.
2 - We had a tremendous victory over Mifflin County who was the 13 y/o runner up in the State last year, their 14 y/o team last year was the State Champs, and their organization holds the record for the most State Championships at 13, 14 and 15.
3 - Satch Mowery, the tournament director absolutely loved our team and was an extremely gracious host.
4 - Ron Zimmerman, the State Commissioner was also a big fan and was very accommodating.
5 - The boys had their names in the local newspaper in a recap of one of the games.
6 - One of our losses (our first game) was against the team that ended up being the number 1 seed coming out of pool play. We lost 7-4, but had more hits and runs against them than any other team. For that game, we had only 9 players, and were missing 4 starters from our usual line-up.

Congratulations to AJ Maslo who represented Ingomar Franklin Park Athletic Association and the Tri-State area in the USA Baseball 12U National Open Roster, held from July 1st to July 3rd at the MLB Urban Youth Academy in Compton CA.  Below is the press release published out by USA Baseball regarding this event:

USA Baseball Announces 12U National Open Roster

From Tony Maslo:

“He first was asked to try out at No Offseason in Tarentum with a handful of other handpicked players from the Tri-State area where he was evaluated by USA Baseball representatives from North Carolina.  He was the only 12U player from our area asked to travel to Compton, California to try out for the national team. There was one other 14 year old player from Pittsburgh also asked.

He came in the top 10 on the 30 yard run and was 16th overall on agility and speed (Out of 111 players from across the country).

He saw up to 85 MPH pitching from 50 feet.  He was one of three left handed hitters at the try out.  He was hit by pitch his first at bat.  He walked 5 times and hit a line drive single to finish the try out batting 1000.

He went through instruction, training, testing and played several games. Although AJ was not selected for one of the 10 slots on the National roster he had a blast and it renewed his love of the game of baseball.”

Let’s share in congratulating AJ Maslo and his family for this fine accomplishment!

Way to go AJ!
